Judo rules do seem really dumb. I assume Rousey was somehow losing the fight until the last throw even though she was dominate throughout and the other girl just kept turtling?
@p1q0 Yes Edith dislocated her arm with an illegal combined throw/joint lock called wake gatame (0.53). The rules are dumb these days I agree. Watch some vids from the early 80s/70s - it's almost a completely different sport. Closer to BJJ/MMA (without strikes). IJF seem hell bent on turning it into the grappling equivalent of taekwondo.
@Swimswimswim99 they only allow groundwork if there's action. if there is no opening and it stalls, regardless of the position, the ref will restart them.
@Swimswimswim99 Some of the rules in judo are bullshit. You get next to no time to work a ground game in modern judo. Can't even go for leg takedowns anymore either.
@Deesade86 It as better in the 80s. I hate the IJF. If there's one thing that'll push more judoka into MMA it's the IJF rule changes - you can implement judo far better in MMA/Freestyle grappling comps/BJJ comps these days than in sport judo comps. its ridiculous.
Why is Rousey fighting a big tall blond guy named Ned? That's right, it says Ned right on the back of his shirt. And why did Rousey change her name to Toyota?
what kind of throw was that??? Looks like a mixture of the Firemans carry and Uchi mata. Whatever that was was pretty sick, glad she didn't break her neck doing that move.
@jwgeezer Shes down a few interviews where she says she used to cry everyday at practice when fighting the guys because she couldn't beat them. She might actually be about to cry in most of her matches.

is a regular RNC allowed in judo? or do you have to use gi chokes from the back?
sgs138 1 month ago
@sgs138 it's allowed, restrictions concerning chokes are that you can't crank the neck while at it and you can't grip the throat with your fingers.

@grahamhg Completely agree. Wonder what a newaza specialist like Kashiwazaki would do these days. All the rule changes have ruined it as a sport.

Ronda's great and she's gorgeous too. I wonder why though, she always looks like she's about to start crying during her fights?
