  • Wow, that was so helpful!! I've been training my turnout for about half a year, and especially my right hip is quite unflexible, it used to hurt reeeally badly every time I would stretch.. Now I've been using this stretch for only 3 days (about 4 minutes each side) and the pain is almost completely gone!! :DD

  • can you do this by yourself?

  • do you give lessons? if so, where?

  • omg I was doing it wrong when I first started this! good thing I was never consistent with it! lol! I only lasted about 3 days XD thanks!!

  • Nice Snatch

  • Thank you so much for posting these exercises; they've helped my turnout a lot. I was also wondering if you had any videos related to knees. I don't force my turnout and I still tend to have knee discomfort along the inside edge of the patella, particularly in first position.

  • All these videos are great and really helpful!!! tnx for uploading !! =]

  • FINALLY! Someone who can explain where the turnout muscles are!!!Thanks so much!Your videos are fantastic!

  • Such helpful advice! Just figured out that I've been doing the clam wrong for several months now O.o I love this pointe work series, thank you so much!

Btw, what's the music that plays at the beginning and end? It's awesome, I almost want to do some choreography to that :D

  • The music is one of my favorites from Bach, the Suite No 2 In B Minor - "Badinerie."

  • Ahh, thank you :)

  • ....dont u mean 9 months??

  • no she let me stay in for an extra 9 months to get a better head start in being such an awesome dancer!!

  • This is my tenth year dancing, and today i got my pointe shoes!!!!!! i was extatic. But you are th first person (besides my dance teacher) that i go to for specific pointe shoes info. So thanks for doing all the things!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • This is my eighth year to be danceing and I'm 11 and I just got my Pointe shoes today!

I found your videos really helpful because I don't know all that much about Pointe shoes... So if anyone has any advice for me, I would really appreciate it!!! :)

  • Coming from a dance instructor, this is a fantastic explanation of why the exercises should be done how she is saying to do them. It is teaching us to fish rather than giving us a fish :)

  • Is doing this exercise with a theraband too much?

  • Ha ha! That's funny, you made my day!

  • I have took all your advice on nearly all the videos tht i have watched and my point work has improved =D

  • It is not the feet she is focusing on - nor should the dancer focus on them when they are performing these two very helpful exercises. Lisa is an outstanding instructor.

  • Thanks for the video! I'm starting to do these now! =)

  • Informative !

  • When I try to make my upper hip go slightly forward past my lower one, my upper knee starts going forward too... Is this a problem? If it is, could you tell me how I can solve it? I really want a better turn out! \(^ _^)/

  • I take a Pilates class. When you do this, you want to "stack" your hips. Basically, they will be even, like you are standing. She says to put it a bit forward because a lot of people tend to push their hips back.

  • Thank you!

  • What is the music in the background for flute and harpsichord?

  • aria from bach g string from the violet i heared from my father

  • thanks so much.

    your excersizes are amazing<3

  • Is there away that you can stretch the arch of your foot on your own?

  • Oh joe414 you try it some time so you should fucky shut up!

  • AH exactly what i needed for my daughter! Thanks for the video:)

  • i really need help with turn out...i am getting big muscles in the front and when i am lifting my legs that muscle grabs so what else can i do to use the right muscles?! help please!!!!

  • fab

  • Hi! I wonder if you can help me..

My problem is that I do too much work with the muscles in front of my leg. I want to learn how to use the right muscles, especially when I'm lifting my leg, (ex. develope, releve laan). Please please help me!

    Thanks, BlueBallerina.

  • i have that same problem. i'm starting to get large muscles in the front of my thighs which i know is bad. WE NEED HELP!!!!!

  • i have the same problem and my teacher is always telling me that im doing it wrong but the thing is i dont know how to do it right! PLEASE HELP!

  • i know exactly what your problem is, i had it, too. and it's starting to go away. you have to take a pilates-roll (or something similar) and lie ontop of it with the outer side of your thie. then roll up and down. this will hurt, but it will help to relax that muscule, so you can start working the right muscules

if you have questions, just ask...;)

  • i have the exact same problem.

    mashenka90, what is a pilates-roll?

  • i meant pointe:D

  • hello:) i have this problem and i need help. recently, i kept on feeling a slight pain in my ankle whenever i releve on point or rise. does it mean that i should do more warm-up before i dance?

  • this could be the reason for your pain. try to warm up more! if it still hurts, then start doing foot work with the thera band to strengthen your ankles! if you still have pain then, i would really recommend you to see the orthopedic!

  • thank you!

  • I was just wondering if clams and piriformis do also help in improving turn outs?I need help with turn out.The tendu exercise works for me a lot to improve strength and pointe my feet more nicely and significantly! Thanks Lisa!

  • can i have a resum or a translation in french please??

    i don't understand nothing.... pleeeaseee

  • Along with stretches for the psoas, this video has transformed the previous tweleve months of hip discomfort I had been suffering, I thought something was seriously buggered up

After entering into a regular stretch routine, the discomfort started to dissipate night on after the first session, with a 90% reduction in hip irritation after [approx] ten days

    Great video, cheers

  • Glad to hear it!!! Just about all the "injuries" I see are related to using the wrong muscle for the wrong job! Keep watching! :)

  • @lisahowell2 This is indeed a great video! I'm 21 and have only been doing ballet for 2 years. I think I now finally found my turnout muscles. They are the ones right next to your hip bone, right? I am very flexible and can do turnout exercises (such as lying flat on my tummy with my feet together and knees bent) very well, but I can't seem to get it standing up. My first and second position are ok, but my fifth not really. Will doing this exercise help me, or do you have any more tips for me?

  • i luv it

  • this video is very helpfull!!

    Thanxx for this!!

  • your videos are so helpful, thanks for uploading, keep goin :D

  • wow

    these videos are rele helpful

    thnxx!

  • hi! i appreciate your videos a lot. i just want to ask if what's the title of the music you used in the intro of this particular video.. hehe i'm just reminiscin' coz that was the music in my first dance recital

  • Orchestral Suite No 2 in B minor, Badinerie. :) Not sure what it is from but i have danced to it to!

  • Bach

  • This is helpfu I was wondering if there is any way to helpl improve turnout but safe.....This was my problem that ended causing some knee problem but more just making them irriated. This was because I wasnt turing out from the hips. I have been working on it but I still forget because I am normal footed I not have pigieon feet or the other type i forgot what its called....If you could help that would be great

  • omg these videos are very helpful :D

  • These are great tips! My dance teacher recommended that I see a dance physiotherapist, and after seeing more of what you do, I definetly will. Thanks so much!

  • when am i going 2 get on pointe because i hane been doing ballet for 8 years but only one class

  • hey lisa! thanks it helped me so much!

  • Wow! i learned that one totally wrong!

thank you so much for this!

    your my saviour!

  • Haha I had to check out the level of fame and i am impressed. Go Lisa! Love Annie :)

  • THANK YOU for this demo! I injured my piriformis & seeing the proper form for these movements will really help my rehab.

  • Glad to be of service! Samoyta... make sure that if it has been injured recently, dont overload your piriformis. It is a tiny muscle, and can get worked too much very easily. Make sure you are working all the other gluteals as well (in different exercises)

  • Oh man!!! We learned this a couple months ago in ballet, but it was done WRONG!! Thanks a bunch Lisa, I'll be sure to tell this to my ballet mistress.

  • Have I ever said that I love you?

    Would you marry me?

  • Oh, and legwarmerxx... sorry, but ah... kinda taken :)

  • Oh no! Okay, I'll just marry my pointe shoes. Is that okay with you?

  • Ha Ha! Perfectly fine! Just try and get it past the priest and you will be fine! ;)

  • Love this! I think it is just what I needed. =)

  • Excellent videos, i'll be using the piriformis stretch quite alot now!

  • Awesome tips!

  • These videos are wonderful!

  • Thanks guys! Nice to know that they are appreciated :)
