  • I'm 14, i think i was born in the wrong generation.

I way prefer this music than the shit now.. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, all that crap.. They've got nothing on this :)

  • @PumkinPeasyKilljoy

I'm a embro and i improve this message

  • I'm15 years old and I honestly appreciate this music 28767204x more than I do the music iIm growing up with. Rap, songs that only consists of sex, drugs, and money, SUCK. I hate my generation, I really do. I would do anything to grow up with this.

  • perfection.

  • Wonderful song

  • Morrissey i wont share you to anyone!!!

  • @redchik1000 *won't share you WITH anyone.

  • I love this song, one of their best songs!

  • Best Smiths song imo, and theres a lot of great ones to choose from!

  • Fucking hell, guys just don't have hair like that anymore...

  • @ChiliPeppz Actually, a lot do. David Tennant sort of brought it back. It's considered pretty fashionable for a guy right now.

This was my favourite song for years, certainly growing up. It's fucking lovely.

  • The Smiths are so incredibly perfect.

  • I wont share comments this is my line.

  • brandon <3

  • thanks for uploading - beautiful...a great musical era

  • "I want the freedom and I want the guile..."

    Kills me every time.

  • This is a great video, thanks!!!!! :)

  • I'll still you somewhere....I'll see you somewhere...Mr Leverenz in Albaquerque...PEACE

  • sharing is not caring

  • Brilliant closing to their last album. I like the Mozz/Marr pics. Yeah, he wrote this about Marr, for sure. IMO they were one of the last, great songwriting teams.

  • i remember in 07' on my way to a morrissey concert i heard a faster version of this song, and it was great, but i cant find it no more i thought it would be in the rank album but no, musta been bootleg version but it was good

  • Morrissey is probably one of the greatest male torch/jazz singer of alternative rock music.

  • <3

  • 7 people don't know what the fuck good music, is!

  • it breaks my heart!:'(

  • Wonderful song...one of my ALLTIME faves of these guys... One of the best closing songs on an album EVER!

  • i only like people that like the smiths

  • @lkjhb1 haha :)

  • @lkjhb1 They you're going to love me.

  • Cmon, stop with the insults, you should be honor that a voice is there that speaks from the heart and isn't afraid to be in front of possible backlashes or critics. It takes a special person with the gulls to stand and say Im here hear me roar! Im a protecter of Morrissey since the late 80's. Be yourself always!

  • I feel like crying , of happiness , of fear , of that place only Moz can touch ..

  • It's to good

  • ..."I won't share you

    With the drive

    And the dreams inside

    This is my time

Life tends to come and go

    Well, that's OK

Just as long as you know

Life tends to come and go

    Well, that's OK"...

  • GO HOME YOU NAZI JUSTIN BIEBER LOVER

  • I love this song<3

  • Best Perrier ad ever

  • I'm not gay or anything (not that there's anything wrong w/ that) but I wouldn't be able to share Morrissey either :P

  • the year was 1989 and my room mate lent me some blank tapes, one being 'strangeways, here we come'. After listening to it I was transfixed on how I connected to their music. No other music had 'got me' like the smiths did. That week I went down to the music shop and ordered every single album they'd recorded. I haven't heard this song for ages till i just clicked on it and i felt like that awkward teenager with the world before me again. Thank you for the post the trip down memory lane :)

  • we will never ever get anyone come close to the smiths i thank you guys for todays music a disgrace thankgod ive got you listen to

  • The publisher of this video grasped the meaning of the song, at least for us fans if not for Morrissey himself. When ever I hear the opening chords I am filled with joy coupled with anguished sorrow. These Last words in the last song of a last joined album...

By the way, photo at 0:34 , is a crystal mirror of this song. Love to all.

  • @Owenhunt yes but copying off other bands isn't exactly original is it?

  • @AmicableJudgeRhino You need to re-read the conversation I was having. I was talking of Pattinson's potential to mimic Morrissey for a movie, and in a joking way.

  • @owenhunt Ok no bother I'll take your word for it.

  • beautiful song.

  • Life tends to come and go...

  • Anyone else think the harmonica at the end could have gone for at least another 20 seconds? I had always wished they didnt it fade it out so quickly

    such a beautiful song

  • sounds like an autoharp?right?

  • this is for my wife.... cuz ill kill her

  • Great video - thanks for posting!

  • this song always makes me cry..

  • @texaho @kissmyshades no offense but he's married to his lovely WIFE lol happily in the hills of Hollywood but check out my playlist I think you'll like

  • I'll see you somewhere

    I'll see you sometime

    Darling ...

  • marr is a genius aswell

  • wow the smiths fur emma!!!!

  • see? now i am teary.....they'll never ever get back together....why, why, why?!?!? (drying up the tears..)

  • Very nice. Agenda or not, that final picture with Morrissey and Marr with the tear down the middle is almost tear jerking. One of the greatest bands of all time.

  • Sigh! Even the breakdown of a perfect platonic love can lead to a prolonged acrimony. :(======

  • THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL. It gives me straight chills. the Smiths mean so much.

  • onemorejoe we are so lucky

  • I love THE SMITHS they are so fucken cool

  • What a powerful farewell

  • ima be jonny marr for halloween hahah x]

  • i could see robert pattinson playing moz in a docu film. whether or not robby can sing...

  • @sebremit Ha ha! he has his own band and is conversely actually blessed with a gruff voice so couldn't undertake a literal characterisation of Morrissey. He could have a shot at darkening his hair and dancing prancily but with attitude. Who knows?

  • thank you for all...these piece of their life ...of our life !!

  • Such a beautiful song, unrequited love is a bitch!

  • i want the freedom and the guile........

  • This song has always made me cry. It really speaks to how emotionally tortured I was as a child and teenager before I came out of the closet.

  • beautiful wonderful music and sentiment

  • I am not being a drama queen when I say that if it weren't for this band my life would have been empty. How it is that music and words fill a human soul I don't know, but it is my reality.

  • i immediately fell in love with this song on the first listen. mmmmm.

  • Life tends to come and go..

  • Angie M always looked lovely. Johnny was in Osaka last year. With The Cribs. Bar in Osaka, everyone who plays live goes there. Cribs did, JM didn`t. So I missed him. And I took the single "Last Night" along which I bought in 1987. Not to worry.

  • Morrissey himself said in an early 1990s Rolling Stone article, "I'm gay? Well, that's news to me." When asked to 'set the record straight' in the 2003 British Channel 4 Documentary "The Importance of Being Morrissey" he simply stated, "I don't see any 'crooked record'. People think they know, think they understand. I don't really care what people think -- it makes no difference to me. And I'm not hiding anything."

  • @wenbrowneyes It's irrelevant whether i'm a fan or not. She won't be remembered, neither will many other acts. I just happened to use her as an example.

  • @robbieonguitar Im not a beyonce fan...she will be remembered in popular culture and between her fans..Ask my friends who the smiths are...the dont know

The smiths are famouse in their circle of fans and in indie music.

  • @Pinipinn I'm not saying that, i mean it's been over 20 years since The Smiths split and they're loved even more now. I was just stating that Beyonce is a singer that will more than likely fade away and be replaced by somebody else. Nobodies really been able to replace The Smiths, with good reason.

  • @robbieonguitar loved between their circle of fans and indie music....I like the smiths very much but Ive never met anyone here that knows who they are...and beyonce has already been replaced by some lady gaga and artists like that. Even the Jonas Brothers are not so mentioned. But still 20 years from now some teenage girls will be comenting here in youtube about how much they love them....just like we are right now talking about the smiths when nobody talks about them

  • The vocals on I won't share you are just dreamy. I imagine why Stephen Street cried the first time he listened to the song, during the Strangeways recording.

  • @orestes3009 dont limit yourself like that...

  • Love the Smithssibus!!!!!

  • não tenho nem o que dizer, simplesmente maravilhoso, a melhor banda já existente no mundo. isso é THE SMITHS..................................

  • and with that the smiths are dead

  • realmente una cagada , juicio y prision

  • icons of the 80s, their music is still alive and well because it is so daring. Even today people would think twice about naming a song --I won't share you-- I admire their courage to explore and push the boundaries. How many bands are doing that now?? The last real band was the libertines.... fuck all the other boring copycats. --- the same shit is happening with movies.

  • It still makes me laugh a little when I think that Noel Gallagher wanted to be everything that Marr was, while I must admit that with Oasis he probably did achieve the same success or more. I think that Noel could have just been his own person; however, maybe acting like Marr is who he is lol...(Not hating on Noel Gallagher!)

  • @zreidsnider If you don't have confidence in who you are, then emulating The Beatles and The Smiths is not exactly undercutting your chances of making half-decent music is it? The two great North West bands and perhaps the best two of last century.

  • God! Was Mozzer scrawny in those days!

  • Absolutely Beautiful!

    I love the smiths.

I wish they were still around, we need some actual music in the world today :)

  • I think of a good friend every time I listen to this song. I love how The Smiths often used guitar played backwards and the end of a couple of their songs.

  • whoever made this video had an agenda. good job!

  • @texaho

thanks. and i did have an agenda! haha.

  • @texaho if the agenda was to convince us that marr & moz were butt buddies....it didn't take a montage of photos to persuade me lol.

  • @haroof

    hahahaha!

  • @haroof What???? MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC. Try and talk like a Human Being!

  • @haroof That isn't and was never true.

  • The Smiths, Cure, Depeche & (sort of) OMD owned that amazzing decadeeee

  • "I was good enough for City, but they didn't follow up because I was probably the only player out there wearing eyeliner." Johnny Marr

This quote makes me like Johnny Marr more every time I read it!

  • @mapleavenue77

what is this quote in reference to?

  • @kissmyshades Johnny Marr said it in an interview with the Daily mail. Google: "Dailymail" "Johnny Marr" "guitars" "Smiths" You'll find it. I think it demontrates how: 1) Johnny Marr has a fantastic sense of humour; and, 2) He's talented is many ways.

  • @kissmyshades Hes on about playing for manchester city football club which wuold of been awesome lol

  • @kissmyshades Johnny Marr was a talented football player, but he wasn't picked to go pro with it, and after that event happened, he said this quote.

  • @kissmyshades Marr could have been a pro football player.

  • @kissmyshades soccer...

  • @kissmyshades

    Manchester City FC

  • @mapleavenue77 hahahaha this quote reminds me of Semi Pro.

  • @mapleavenue77 what did he mean "i was good enough for city...

    "?

  • @idanl5 Manchester City, the football team. He used to be in reserves, I think.

  • I want the freedom and I want the guile!

  • who the hell doesn't like The Smiths?

  • I can remember listening to this for the very first time (many many moons ago)....and thinking is this really The Smiths.....well ur better ur ass it is :))

  • Simply the Greatest band of all time. Nuff said!

  • The Smiths make me feel alive again and again........ the most influential band of all times, in my dull opinion! and yes - I'LL ALWAYS BE A SMITHS ADDICT!!!!!!!!

  • Man! Look at Morrissey and Marr at 0:09 !!

  • With the drive and ambition, the zeal I feel, this is my time...

  • could i gt a copy of the photo 0:22 i can't find it anywhere send me the link pls xD

  • apparently.....morrissey to marr. brilliant song.

  • omg love this song.. I will be a smiths/morrissey till the day I die xxxx

  • I still haven't fully figured out what this song is about. But anyway it's great!

  • @Elfenlied i heard somewhere that it was about Johnny Marr...do not quote me on that though. if you find out, or find out what you think it's about, i'd love to know!

  • I always thought this was a message from Morrissey to Johnny Marr. Whatever it means, I think this song contains Morrissey's most tender vocal in his whole career, from 2:10 to the fade. Such a wistful, sad smile with which to end the career of this extraordinary group.

  • ok so i can't find this song anywhere!! can someone please tell me what album is this from if any....or can anyone tell me where i can download this song...its not on Itunes.....thanks

  • @Hidizzle06 STRANGEWAYS, HERE WE COME. 1987. 1. A Rush And A Push And The Land Is Ours 2. I Started Something I Couldn't Finish 3. Death Of A Disco Dancer 4. Girlfriend In A Coma 5. Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before 6. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me 7. Unhappy Birthday 8. Paint A Vulgar Picture 9. Death At One's Elbow 0. I Won't Share You
  • Ufortunately - I can't reach this wonderful album in Israe! :-((((

  • the only band that matters. then. or now...

  • The bass line on this song is absolute truth and perfection!

There is NO OTHER bass line that could have worked on this song. Andy Rourke knew EXACTLY what was required. My GAWD, he is a genius!

  • I barely even hear the bass in this song. Maybe my speakers suck, but I find it funny that you in this particular song say that the bass is excellent. Rourke is an excellelt bass player - but in this song he's extremely subtle

  • Sometimes the most beautifully composed/constructed pieces are in fact the most complicated. - J

  • Comment removed

  • Agree! It's totally RAD and simply (as you stated) GENIUS! - J

  • it's like being sung to by a loved one who is dying

    rip the smiths

  • The pictures and expressions fit perfectly with the song. Good Job, it makes it seem like he's talking about Johnny Marr. Especially on the bus, :32 with Mozzer, sitting behind.

  • Though he's actually singing about his art, which he no longer wants to share with the band. I think Marr understood exactly what he meant.

"With the drive and the dreams inside, this is MY TIME."

    "I want the FREEDOM...."

    Symbolic words or literal?

  • Yeah no kidding. Perfect picture slideshow for this song man.

  • This Beautiful Universe...

  • Don't make me laugh.

The Smiths are a phenomenon, remembered over 20 years later. Morrissey is a lyrical genius.

Lets see who remembers Beyonce in 20 years time...

  • unfortunately most will

  • @robbieonguitar Seriously, their lyrics are unparalleled. Growing up with the Smiths is difficult to communicate to others unless they experienced it themselves. The songs' impacts was acute on us impressionable kids.

  • @RainPoetry I'm growing up with them now, 20+ years after they disbanded.

It's terrible, living with so much musical garbage around.

I'm 17 and i've never felt this way about a band, their like a mistress!

I met Johnny Marr a few months ago in Leeds and i've never been in awe of another human being as i was then.

  • @robbieonguitar Jay-z definately will, ill probably remember how fit she was/is. maybe crack one out depends how milfy she gets

  • @robbieonguitar YOU ARE RIGHT MY FRIEND

  • @robbieonguitar stop comparing a british indie rock band (the best band) from the 80's to an american commercial pop singer...THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!!!

  • @giub81 I was merely comparing The Smiths (Yes, the best band to come from the 80's) to a popular singer who's making music today. Don't cry about it.

  • Holy fuck, seriously?

  • i hate you.

  • I thought I finally found the most beautiful song with "there is a light.." but once again the smiths have me at loss for words.

  • Sorry, i meant to give u thumbs up:)

  • beyond words

  • Such a Beutiful song! they seem so happy together ahh (:

  • I can't get over how beautiful this song is

  • Never has a band meant so much to so (relative) little a listeners. An indictment of our times, but a sweeter secret for those sensible children who will know what this means.

  • @onemorejoe Great comment, I think you really hit the nail on the head with what you say. The Smiths seem to have a connection with their fans in a way that I don't think any other band could!

  • "I want the freedom, and I want the guile

I want the freedom and the guile

life tends to come and go

no no no no no no no no no no ohhhhhh"

What f*cking GENIUS poetry! Moz for US president.

  • Hell I feel like this about my girl

  • Phenomenal music, precise, haunting and beautiful... heaven sent!

  • The Smiths. Just a few years together, but oh the difference to me.

  • these two, if only today, the impact ohh

  • I feel like getting all my records out and checking the b-sides lol.....I used to listen to all of them....I don't even have a record player now or should that be turn table, nevermind.....Long live The Smiths!

  • I want every Smiths song ever recorded. The fact that iTunes can't get them for whatever legal reason totally sucks. All I've got is The Sound of The Smiths. Even if I buy every album there seem to be obscure b sides that don't appear on the albums. This frustrates me greatly, but I should be fine.

  • the song is off the album 'Strangeways Here We Come'.

  • i cant find this song ANYWHERE! i MUST download it. i need it. help me please anyone?

  • free youtube downloader, use the audio download function x

  • ahhh yes OFCOURSE!! THANKYOOOUU!! .....VIVA MOZ

  • OH my!!! how???? please enlighten me as well.....its impossible to find!

  • "life tends to come and go"

    T'was ever thus

  • Now that's nice. 87' wasn't it?

  • Who cares about Moz's sexuality? He's a brilliant, beautiful man, a singer with a voice of velvet. He speaks the truth about so many empty lives. Those of us who are smart and who don't fit into conventional society (Artists, poets, writers, gays, wierdos, pot heads, whatever) we are on the fringes of society and are treated as less. He says that WE are the best, most creative!

  • so true :)

  • Yanks, either enjoy or STFU AND GTFO. Don't be talking shit on these British legends.

  • All comments here about Morrissey's sexualit are mere presumptions. What he does in his private life doesn't belong to us. It doesn't make any difference if he is bisexual, homossexual, asexual or whatever. The most important thing is his precious legacy as a poet and wonderful singer.

  • That's sad to see such vile comments to a beautiful song people! Grow up. Get some Internet Social, Skills lmao!

I think he's Asexual. I'll just go with that. :)
