I don't get it, but in a way I do. People are protesting about this but there's nothing done. It's all about 'looks' & 'money'. So many people are turning against the whole 'look' thing, so instead of making ads waning us about looks, etc, why doesn't someone actually do something about it? Wouldnt the world become better? Haven't we destroyed the world enough already with people being depressed, even killing themselves bcoz of their self-esteem issues? This shit's being shoved down our throats.
What an effective ad. It makes you wonder when you see that girl at the start/end..who is clearly beautiful...and you think how she isn't conventionally pretty.
How can they make these comercials but sell axe.. where they objectify women just to make money and please guys. Honestly..? step up drove! practice what you preach, walk the walk however you wana put it! Stop saying that its hurting our little girls and then next comercial... you know.. YOU HURT OUR LITTLE GIRLS...? good job Dove.. good comercial great idea.. but come on..
I feel like only skinny girls get the attention though. Most of my best friends have boyfriends. They all weight about 110 pounds or so. I weigh 140 and I haven't been looked at by a guy for months. I guess girls that aren't that skinny just have to wait for a more mature guy?
@littlebunny2062 ha do u think stephen harper even gives a shit shit nope, but then again it would be nice cuase welll im not happy with my legs, like whenever i go to school i always try to cover them up and wear baggy no skinnies but flares are coming back to im kinda eased now
I find it so stupid that we rely on Dove to tell us obvious things that we should be telling ourselves. I mean, their message is good, but seriously- the people who own Dove also own Axe. All they really care about, in the end, is making money. Why do we need them to tell us we're beautiful?
Status had nothing to do with my choice of who I am with and neither did money considering he was flat broke at the time of me being 16 and he being 21. I even had more money then he did then lol
Dove would be more successful at raising girls' self esteem if they could convince shallow guys like me that they don't want to be with someone thin and beautiful. I think the media "talking to girls" isn't the problem. I think the problem comes from the media talking to us guys...
@bakidge yeah so true like i mean you could say you go for personalities but if you seem some double d chick sitting in a bikini at the beach your not going to ignor her
Dont you think though that media work by the rules of the market and just feed guys what they want to see. Cuz if nobody would watch/react to the content, they would not screen it.
Just a side note: Isnt it strange, that statsticaly men live 7 years less than women, but there are no ads what so ever for boys to live healthier?
@bakidge Hey you know theres nothing wrong with you wanting to be with somebody thin and beautiful. Its just that the industry is determining for us what exactly IS thin and beautiful

why do people say the American image of beauty is impossible to achieve? I'm in college and i see jaw-droppingly gorgeous girls every day in tight pants. There are tons of them. So it's not impossible.
I'm not sure what the message in this video was, but it kind of depressed me being a guy. This is what little girls are seeing, perfect girls and self fullfilment in the eyes of the public, IE looking skinny and gorgeous in order to be considered worthy of society, and little girls dont care but it will affect their lives in a negative way. Truely a depressing video and an eye opener as far as I'm concerned.
The all point here is that probably many of those girls who make your jaw drop think of themselves as ugly, far and unworthy too, because they don't look like a photo-shopped picture.
I love this video. America's picture of the perfect woman is impossible to achieve, and certainly not healthy. I am who I am, and you are who you are.
Tired of the false promises that beauty advertisements make? Watch "Rosyline" on YouTube! It's a hilarious beauty commercial spoof that truly outlines the ridiculous aspect of these ads.
There is a HUGE difference between wearing makeup and things as extreme as plastic surgery and eating disorders. I spend five minutes putting on my drugstore makeup, because it's a little extra thing that makes me feel good. It's no big sacrifice, and if I find myself out on the town without makeup, it's no big deal. Clearly this video is about women going to extremes to achieve an unrealistic expectation of beauty, not a little eyeliner and lipgloss.
WHO FREAKIN CARES IF DOVE MADE THIS!? either way its a good point of showing how other little girls wanna grow up like these "models" but they shouldnt since theyre just fake!! its about being obsessed with your weight and plastic surgery and looking PERFECT with your makeup, not just a little to look okay when you go out.
it makes a difference when you are judging dove. You can respect the message, and the end result, but not necessarily respect the company. Dove got a huge sales increase with this campaign. Would they have done it if they weren't making more money?

This is Capitalism where no one with any kind of reach is going to do something without there being something in it for them. Don't like it? There's always China.
I think you have missed the point of this a little tbh The majority of women where makeup and that isn't going to change but this is talking about women who obsess about perfecting their bobies to the point of starving themselves, throwing up, taking excessive diet pills and going through countless surgeries to make themselves look 'perfect' so shut up
Depends, same industry of course, lots of such models, but it all comes down to their mission statements and agendas. Even if they are doing all this just to make a better profit, at least they are helping people be satisfied with who they are at the same time.
Self esteem isn't about being happy -with- who you are or what you got, it's about -using- what you got to make you happy about who you are.
Hmm... It's all well and good for dove to say all this, but everybody should take a second and think about what dove is. It's a company that sells fake tan in western countries, and cream to make asian girls look whiter in asian countries.
everybody should put dove in the same category as all the other beauty companies... dove is no different this is a tactic to make you buy dove products because you think they're on 'your side'.
Depends, same industry of course, lots of such models, but it all comes down to their mission statements and agendas. Even if they are doing all this just to make a better profit, at least they are helping people be satisfied with who they are at the same time.
If anything it's worth being proud of them for creating programs such as these, I would recomend encouraging other companies to do the same and praise them if they do good at it. Then they'll have more incintive to do it.
Hence why I don't vegitate in front of the TV, watch a movie at best, and spend my time online listening to self-help and personal development books and chatting with friends who encourage and support me to be who I am as I am.
If companies are out to get you, as an individual it's your responsibillity to avoid them in any way you see fit. Personally living without TV as made my life much happier. No bad news, no being told I'm sick and broken, no being told I'm ugly, etc.
one thing i disliked seeing in a film is how obssesive girls eat rice cakes, and "normal" girls feast on burgers all day long and never gain weight.
it is a lie. healthy diet (not rice cakes but fruits and vegetables) activate happy hormones decreasing risks of illnesses and depression. junk food does the opposite.
Health = Beauty
Diversity = Beauty
Originality = Beauty
that is the way it should be. not this BS the media is selling us.
And yes, I've seen girls, while being overweight, are much more beautiful and active and cheerful than these stick-thin little dolls. Not saying that small girls can't be happy or beautiful or whatnot, it's just that the industry is bottling "perfections and trying to sell it. It's sad ;;
This is so true. The beauty industry is killng the self esteem of girls everywhere. not only the beauty industry though. Its media in general. Movies, tv, magazines, songs. Everywhere!they tell and show what we are supposed to look like and act to be considered beautiful and sexy. You gotta have perfect skin, weight, figure, ect. and show it all for the amusement of the men around you. The way men react to the "perfect woman" doesnt help either. dont tell me its not true i see it everyday.
Why can't the beauty industry just grasp the fact that perfection is out of reach for human beings? By killing a girl's self-esteem, they could cause her to develop eating disorders, which can kill relationships and sadly, the girl herself. It's sick how much they impact self-image.
Because that's exactly the point of the beauty industry - to make beauty unattainable: that's how they make money. If people were able to achieve real beauty, the beauty industry would go bankrupt. They only way they make money is to constantly make people feel ugly.
I'm not a female or anything but I have seen the real danger of the beauty industry! My fiance from a few years back committed suicide because she thought she was ugly. Just like all women she was bombarded with the images that beauty industry bombarded her with! All the way up until her death she had anorexia and body dysmorphia! So I support this movement to help women realize they are beautiful and I've even put it on my myspace account!
It's those who think their body is not perfect and continue to alter their body some do constant plastic surgery until they are unrecognizable while some cut up their face! It's very deadly!
I think the point is that we're constantly being bombarded by images, whether we realize it or not. Those images have a greater impact on us that we think - and those who think otherwise are probably the most brainwashed of us all.
Those images are very graphic and disturbing. Perhaps more disturbing is that you have to stop the video every other frame in order to see the images, which are incredibly disturbing.

I suppose its a devious circle. When women stop going for men with status, men will stop going for beauty! :-)
