Just makes me smile hearing it. I owned one of these when I was a kid.. had a wonderful silver one. Now that we're older.. my friends tell me at a cocktail party a while back that they could always tell when I would arrive somewhere they were cause they could hear it a block and a half away.
That explains quite a bit.. looking back on it. God what fun this car was. By far the favorite of any car I have ever owned.
Possibly a bit hard to judge seeing as you do the work, but do you have any idea on how much this sort of thing would cost to the average GTV6 owner? I read somewhere that the 2.5L block (or any 12v block for that matter) could not be mated to 24v heads without some serious work and re-drilling oil lines etc?
Hi, no, I modify the 24v heads to work on the gtv6 12 v sub assy.
I then use a 30l or 3.2 l crank with new sleeves and pistons of 100mm bore and get either 3.6 or 3.8 l. This particular car is a 3.6 l 24v , all based on the original 2.5 12v engine.
cioè...mostruoso..il solito sound della porsche carrera gt ,solo che questa alfona ne ha 6 di cilindri l'altra invece 10....mamma mia che rombo favoloso, bello proprio sembra che si strappi qualcosa..
Great car. Have you swapped in a LSD tranny from a 75 yet? I have a 84 GTV6 with a 12v 3.0 swap and I'm contemplating going with the 75 tranny as well. Also, what is the redline of this car, what about your 3.8?
What was the donar car? If I remember correctly Alfa officially imported the first 3.0 GTV 6 to S Africa with 3 x twin chokes - sort of loosely an Alfa 6 engine. Car looks like an 83 - 86 2.5 spec. Did you bore out a 75 engine. Are there still original 3.0 carbs out there and how much do you know about them?
You mention you have a 3.8 Guilietta. Was there major fabbing to drop that engine in? Thought the largest was the 2.0 4? Sorry for all the questions
Credo,hello...This is an 1983 2.5 gtv6 into which we fitted the 24v engine. The engine is based on the std 2.5 v6 block, liners are 100mm,30l crankshaft..24v studs are fitted and so are the 164 24v heads..a few other mods are neccessary and it all works very well..
Yes,My Giulietta has a 3.8l 24v (101.4mm bore, gta crankshaft..)The motor is out at the moment as I may have a broken ring somewhere..I had a constant oil usage problem and need to repair that.
Thank you..This car is definitely rear wheel drive and a lot of fun..It sees regular track days here in S.A. as well..Brakes are the next big upgrade..
It makes me cry that engine music, only alfa, say what u want, there is nothing that tingles the spine like that blood curling howl, if u want reliability and practicality, then u dont get it, go buy a fukn toyota !
Aaah, signori,You have just NOT owned a properly built Alfa Romeo engine yet..One that will make the same horsepower as a 355 Ferrari for a 1/4 of the price..
When you come to South Africa, let me know..I will give you my personal Giulietta with the 3.8l 24v engine to drive for your stay..Afterwards,If you still feel the same about the engines, well,at least I tried..
Whatever! I have a GTV6 3.0 12V with just over 220 hp and it has never burned oil. We have people in the states and our S.A. mates who build 24V 3.0 or 3.5 engines with 300 to 350 hp and no drips. Heck even my 1987 2.5 75/Milano never dripped oil.
What exhaust setup is this? This is....amazing...simply an amazing sound

Why would you complicate?' Take 156 2.5 V6 24V engine and mount it in. Maby the 75 gearbox fits with minimum changes.

hey there, i'm a bit new at the older alfas.
So the original GTV6 came as a 2.5 L V6?
You replaced the original head with the 164 head, and then bored it to give it extra 700cc? I'm just doing some reaading on older alfas thats all.

The sound is a combination of 24v heads, the large 3.6l capacity and the 76mm exhaust system.
And thanks for watching !

Mistake by me sorry - it's an 80/81 donar going by the dash. 82 saw the binnacle bolted together and 83 on was a new housing. Forget the 1st question

By the way..The 30l Alfa Gtv6 was developed AND built in South Africa ! They were NOT imported.
Its a truly S.A. beast.
