There's nothing wrong with having 10 nominations, in fact I think it's better that way. It gives more films recognition, which is good, the prestige isn't lost, they're still the Academy Awards.
You can always tell what is going to win the Golden Globe by one simple formula. Of the nominees, the actor you have never heard of, the show that noone has ever seen, or the movie that you can't recall ever having been in a theater will win.
leo better at least get a damn nomination. and harry potter part 2 deserves to get the win for best pic, i mean come on! ten years and the best franchise ever? i think so:)
you know I wonder if the first dude who came up with the idea of an award show in film knew what he was starting: A WHOLE BUNCH OF BULLSHIT.................
God damnit The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo should be up for way more then it is. The intensity I felt while sitting in that theater was like no other movie I've ever seen.
quality over quanity Bérénice Bejo and octavia spencer are the best jessia too many good films this year not oh my god roles and Shailene Woodley not teen star ok hyped up but still good year they up there game this year performance wise now with sandra and natalies ok stuff.
@Roguejmh888 thats not true. Lord of the rings won best picture at the oscars and that's a fantasy film. TheTis problem is that Harry potter is losing it's buzz
Harry potter is a wonderful movie not because its fantasy, its one of those rare movies that you will never forget. But we all know the oscars hate fantasy films drama is for the oscars. Thats why I never watch it but it would be nice if they pick hp for best picture but the chances are slim very slim.
And you wonder why we love you Grace! Your assessment and research has always astounded us and has always hit the mark! This year must be one of the lowest box-office movies I have ever experienced, but in terms of indie movies. Almost all of the slots are filled to the brim. I hope the best guy wins... they deserve it.
Grace, do you do your homework at ALL before you made this video? Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes are getting major buzz for Actress and Supporting Actor for Martha Marcy May Marlene, plus Melissa McCarthy for Bridesmaides, and Kristen Dunst for Actress in Melonchoila. If you were to actually check on the facts ex. Entertainment Weekly and Backstage the Actress Category is as follows, Michelle Williams, Elizabeth Olsen, Meryl Strep, Rooney Mara, and Kristen Dunst. With Williams predicted to win.
It's a shame. You're talking about movies like My Week With Marilyn, The Iron Lady, Drive, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Artist and such, but over here in freakin' Germany they havent even hit theatres yet. We're still excited to watch those movies, you know. Loved the teaser for The Iron Lady.
you make seem like it's all staged we shouldn't give an award because they campaigned or it's "there turn" we should really study the true emotion drive an actor or film gives off as well as clever writing and breathtaking visuals who can take that all together and make into a memorable deserves the win for best picture or any other categories mentioned
I think Fassbender should win best actor for Shame. He had to capture so much raw emotion for his role, I think that it's not only the best performance of the year, but the best one in many years.
Grace, would you say movies and analyzing the movie industry is a passion of yours?
I've recently decided to make a top10 list of mottoes i want in my life, and in the top 3 is a quote from the soundtrack of Flashdance; Irene Cara - What a Feeling:
"Take your passion, and make it happen"
I recently did this myself by changing my topic of study in the middle of a bachelor's degree (sci, 3yrs).
Which ones of your projects would you say is/are your passion, and what is your oppinion of this quote?
Yeah, that's a shame. I was really rooting for Alan Rickman for best supporting actor. His role as Severus Snape was beyond good, and I think he deserves recognition for it.
let me tell you something, i have predict like almost every oscar, and this year i know that drive is going to get nominated ... the ides of march is not oscar worthy, and drive is the best movie of thi year!!!!!
I haven't seen many of these movies to be honest, Midnight in Paris is one of my favs of all time though. I couldn't stop thinking about it after I saw it, and went back and saw it again.
The Artist was such a beautiful and powerful film! Everything about it is Oscar worthy! It will win Best Picture if not I'm gonna be pissed! PS Hey Grace! Who are you rooting for? :D
50/50 deserves a Best Picture nomination and Joseph Gordon-Levitt deserves a Best Actor nomination. The movie is amazing, humorous, emotional and has heart. Filled with a great cast and lovable characters. JGL is my favorite actor and he was brilliant in the role. I also say Deathly Hallows: Part 2 deserves a Best Picture nomination. Unfortunately, the Academy isn't going to pick either of these films for Best Picture nominations. UGH.... :(
sad that J. Edgar didn't get more buzz, it was my favorite movie of the year. Still hoping for a DiCaprio win though, however, it seems more to be more wishful thinking than an actual possibility. Oh well, plenty of moments to enjoy when it comes out on dvd.
@Stido22 WTF! you have no fucking idea about movies. You just watched few no. of movies and came to such dumb conclusion. 50/50 was just a good movie. The Artist is a great movie. Looks like you watched only 50/50 in 2011.
Why is there no respect for Alan Rickman as Snape, he really was the best part about Harry Potter, if there is nothing for him at the Oscars than I will RAGE!!!!!!!
Is it just me or does it seems as those the Oscars AND the Golden Globes will be a disappointment. This might just have to do with the lack of really strong movies or like Grace said - frontrunners. This sucks.
Alot of good movies this year. But of all, Drive stand out the most in my opinion. It stands out as a film in a not set genre. Id like to see at least some nominations for all the work that was put into the film.
wait a second, just because harry potter wasnt nominated doesnt mean its not gonna get recognition from the oscars, hangover won a golden globe last year but had no oscar buzz
Bridesmaids actually got nominated? Was that dry humor delivered in a deadpan fashion? Or is it an unfortunate example that "shit wasn't very funny this year."
The real reason why ticket sales are down isn't merely because the economy sucks or soaring ticket prices but I think is more that Hollywood is turning out garbage on a regular basis lately and calling it movies and the general audience is getting wise to it and won't waste their money to see it in theaters and would rather wait for the dvd releases or ppv. Hollywood needs to wake up and get better writers that have original thoughts or writers that will quit butchering existing material.
Personally I don't think any movie this year was a stand out. Sure many of them made some good money & were entertaining but none were over the top incredible. Even the actors in all these movies didn't do anything spectacular enough to shine above others. Personally I'm getting tired of seeing the same people over & over getting the nods & when is the Academy gonna stop ignoring scifi/fantasy films as best picture? The superhero movies were more entertaining than anything else this year.
What did people see in midnight in Paris? It was quite entertaining but it still was absurd.
C'mon it was like Narnia for "educated adults" I think it was pretty childish. Best movies of the year was Le Havre by Kaurismäki, Drive and The skin I live in (not in chronological order). Or atleast I think so.
Extremly dissapointed Harry Potter wasnt on the list,
I watched them all this year (i became a fan in January of 2011) and so the bes 2 are #1 & #8 & i watched them all pretty close together so big dissapointment there.
I wouldn't say Plummer's completely guaranteed to win. Despite his SAG snub, Albert Brooks is still his biggest competitor and has the stronger film in my opinion.
I think some of the nominations are bogus. Such as not nominating Keira Knightley for A Dangerous Method. Also nominating Cars 2 and Arthur Christmas over Winnie the Pooh and Kung Fu Panda 2, really!?! Though i am happy to see a nomination for 50/50.
see why isn't this a weekly t.v. series, better than crap like entertainment tonight, access hollywood or insider... garbage... except for TMZ, that show is hilarious. Keep it up, Grace!
I hope Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Viola Davis, Michelle Williams. & the movie The Artist Will win. i was a bit upset that Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Pt.2 was ignored infavor for what? A boring nancyboy George Clooney movie the descendants. Why did Gary Oldman was never nominated for T.T.S.S.? Some line up eh?
No Warrior in the mix???? And no Harry Potter??? The nominations were better than last years but, come one those were two of the best movies of the entire year.
Can you do this type of video for the animated films this year? I'm curious to see what the academy will go for knowing that Pixar did not have such a solid film this year!

Can you do this type of video for the animated films this year? I'm curious to see what the academy will go for knowing that Pixar did not have such a solid film this year!
