i saw a video of a stock v8 68 mustang vers a supra.... the mustang was winning then the supra past... in the discription the owner of the supra put the mustang was good but as soon as my second turbo kicked in i flew by.... if you need 2 turbos to beat a mustang somethings wrong with your car

Buddy, even Corvette from 1994 have problems with Supra. Toyota Supra had one of the best times in 90's in own class. First turbo starting to operate at early 1750-1850rpm producing already 200Ibs ft torque, and at 4000 rpm second turbo produce 320 Ibs ft.

68' Stang have 2 times bigger engine and produce much more torque, but power is small.

Find any American 6 cyls car better or faster than Supra's 2JZ, U won't.

Since you are far from engineering I give up. Small engines mostly Japanese and German needs induction to produce reliable power and in same time useful. Some racing engines can operate at high rpm to produce same power as same as many American V8's. Look ''weak'' NSX, it out-handle everything until 2002, even Corvettes (except some Euro super cars). Also modern Nissan 350Z is far better than Stang V6, or Camaro V6. It's engineering, something that you can't beat.

2JZ engine from Aristo, Soarer, Supra was constructed in order to use turbocharging to be more efficient and fast. Turbocharged engines are more efficient and much better than NA is terms of power, but complex design and more parts make them less reliable than NA. Every engineer must compensate all that factors and make very good engine.

Ask German engineers why they turbo gasoline or turbo diesel engines with 5000 moving parts can lasts over 300,000km without problems.

When you are RACING (if you know what is that) you are 99% of all time from 4500-6500rpm, not lower, so both turbos operate almost 100%.

Once for ever, Supra's engine isnt spectacular, but it's build for purpose. Also it's one of the most used engines for swaps, even more than old american blocks. I know over 500 cars with 2JZ swap in last few years, and that number rising every day. Even Nissan SR20DET is also great, and good old 1UZ V8.

@himanshu17292 1972 was when the oil crisis and smog restrictions hit, 300 horsepower in those times were good. Also this car is almost 40 years old meaning so is the technology and engineering, so it's pretty good for that too. Mustangs from the late 60's had even more power ranging from 335-376 horsepower with the simplest of simple engines with basically no electronics or any kind of engine or power aiding, just raw power from large displacement cylinders using carburetors.

I mean just look at it, it doesn't even have the classic muscle car look at all. In my book, it's not an old muscle car if it doesn't have the distinctive muscle car squarish powerful looking shape. Which the 88 most clearly does NOT. It looks NOTHING like a muscle car, not even close, so I say no way.

@extracredit100 Actually the first car that could be called a muscle car is the Oldsmobile 88 from 1949, so a couple of years before Ford jumped on the muscle train. In the end Ford was the one of the last companies to build a real muscle car. Ford never really had a full sized musclecar but they invented the pony cars, which were originally designed as two seaters in European tradition. But nonetheless, the mustang is one of my favourites, especially the Mach I.
