Small correction here.. this is NOT a 'cover' or an 'interpretation'.. Mike Nesmith WROTE this song, and gave it to LInda to record!!! This was either before he was in The Monkees, or shortly after he became a member. You can see him doing a short 'spoof' version of this song in one of the episodes, and also here on YouTube. I happened upon this here while looking for 'Different Drum' to post on my FB page, in honor of Linda's 65th birthday today--HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LINDA!!!!!

@Paramour34 This sounds like a cover of the Nesmith recorded version of the song to me. Nez recorded it on his "And the Hits Just Keep On Coming" album. His version was arranged very close to what you hear here and even contains an extra verse not heard in the Stone Ponys version of the song. Maybe you haven't heard that one before.

I've e got this on an old album either by mike nesbith or by the monkees. cant remember which. he was always my favourite - going to the see the other 3 members of the monkees in plymouth in May. Such a good song.
