  • Sublime! *****

  • I repeat: In calm and overcast Sunday afternoon, knowing that awaits Monday, hear Loscil, Hammok, Stars of Lid, Diatonis help give that relaxed

  • If there was ever a tangible emotional abstraction of my soul, this would be it. The inspiration, vision, and bliss I've received from this pulseform has carried me through time and space so many times over the past few years, and feels so truly resonant within me that I wholeheartedly believe that it is. Thank you SotL.

  • This is just beautiful. That's all that needs to be said.

  • But credit is due to baseline sources.

  • When you get right down to it these guys owe everything to the Harold Budd and Brian Eno collaborations . . .masterpieces ambient albums like The Pearl are strongly reflected in Stars of Lid music

  • @davidasleep01 There are no "original" ideas or songs because it all comes from the same place. Creativity is not owned.

  • @davidasleep01 -- Yes! But I would also add visionary ambient-trance explorer Steve Roach to the short-list of avant-leading edge post-rock influences, ie. his breathtaking & timeless work Structures in Silence. Eno, Budd & Roach stand-out for their epic brilliance, which resonate so strongly w/ something deep within that somehow 'connects' us with the elegant creative immensity of Cosmos transcending Time & Space -- In turn, Kraftwerk & Soft machine are evident as some of THEIR influences.

  • strong, yet so soft... a bit like quality toilet paper

  • amazing! you guys should give Rems Floating Chandelier a listen:)

  • I don't know about you but when I ever listen to this stuff I think of space, the universe.

  • These guys are PERFECT as they are!

For similar inspiration, search for this new song:

The Inituition - Life Changing Moments HD

  • Very relaxing

  • If you like Stars of the Lid, Helios, Boards of Canada, Hammock, Unwed Sailor, Four Tet, Golmund, Eluvium, Explosions in the Sky, and other similar artists, you might like my music. I'd love some support. :)

  • stars of the lid = bliss

  • always great to listen to while drifting to sleep

  • This song is so beautiful!

For new ambient inspiration, search for:

The Inituition - The Sun Heals Us (NEW SONG 2011)

  • check out ELIANE RADIGUE

  • It's like there's a very low-power electrical storm buzzing through the sky on a sunny, brisk morning.

  • If music had a Mark Rothko equivalent, this would be it.

  • @ChameleonMood - have you heard Morton Feldman's Rothko Chapel? - highly recommend it - all Feldman is amazing

  • @ephre I dont think I have. thanks!!! Im all over it :)

  • Very psychadelic trippy video!!

    Very beautiful and peaceful song!!

  • For me Avec Laudenum is one of the greatest albums ever recorded.

  • @AZUREGLIDE absolutely agree with that - that was the first Stars thing i bought and i still love it as much now as the day i got it

  • Marvelous! *****

  • oxycontin replied softly, "you have chosen well...the song, it chose you"

  • absolutely gorgeous

  • trippy...

  • Been a fan of ambient for years....these guys got it down!!!!!

  • Michael Stearns, Steve Roach, Brian Eno?

  • I've always loved stone in focus by aphex twin, i am so glad i found this...

  • i dont get why people seem to hate this.

I primarily listen to Metal, high BPM dance, or trance, and classic hard rock.

But when I study or I am just too wired...this stuff calms the hell out of me...no other music can do that...

  • From the best Stars of the Lid LP (Avec Laudenum). Sad they did now more ambient/new classical stuff then that drone stuff

  • sinds ik sotl ontdekt heb , is er echt een nieuwe wereld voor me open gegaan.....het is gewoon anders

  • Same here - SOTL are in a class of their own. Their ambience is unique. Probably some of the most relaxing music I have ever heard.

  • @MrBirdy2010 anders.. mooi omschreven :-)

  • Yea I was surprised when I found SotL. It's not really drone like Robert Rich Drones/ Trances. This just kind of quietly dances in and out of rays of light, sparkling gold, then dimming to gray, rising, then fading, always whispering... brilliant distant stars.

  • Did these guys do the background music for Homeworld?

  • cool !

  • The best ambient album of all times, in my opinion.

  • DRONE

  • Haha - ten out of ten. This genre of music is commonly referred to as ambient drone. However, there is a difference between DRONE and ambient drone. One is more intelligent than the other...

  • @TheRealBloodBuster Drone music simply refers to music containing continuous notes and chords. However that is a very broad category. I would stay that this genre is specically minimalist.

  • snore-core -_- Zzz,,..

  • i use the term "snore-core" in the best possible way. Not meant to say SotL are in Anyway 'boring' . This track always enhances my calm and introspection . It stimulates the deep mental register like delta or theta waves . hope that gains me some redemption =) . o well

  • @Wantthosedaysback snore-core .... i like that!

  • @Wantthosedaysback I recall an interview once where they said that they considered it to be the highest compliment if people fell asleep while listening to them. "Snore-core" is pretty appropriate,

  • @frog606 hmm.. I'd love to see that interview.

  • @Wantthosedaysback they do a lot of cool harmonic tricks

  • @Wantthosedaysback

    Too deep for you.

  • just right Kung

  • hey! i saw these guys a couple years ago. i have been wanting to get into some other similar artists.. could you advise me? cool video by the way

  • Vidna Obmana, Diatonis, Oophoi, Altus, Stephen Philips. Perhaps some folks could add to this list?

  • There are SO MANY interesting sound artists out there. SOL do the smeary guitar drone with some chamber music leanings. Along these lines, I'm liking Windy & Carl, some early Flying Saucer Attack, Rhys Chatham's astounding 'Crimson Grail'. But guitars aren't the only way to stretch and bend sound. Check Thomas Koner, Tim Hecker, DJ Olive, Phillip Jeck, Belong (my fave!), Andrew Chalk, Jasper TX, Keith Berry...way too many to list, but also so many nooks and crannies to explore all at once.

  • Thank you SOOOO MUCH

  • Hammock.

  • @rioted choice picks

  • @SunnyBunnyFeeling Not as droney (usually), but Hammock makes a very nice ambient Americana that goes well with SotL, and I think there's some influence going on there, whether two- or one-way.

  • @SunnyBunnyFeeling Brian Eno, Richard Skelton, Scuba, Oneohtrix Point Never, Seefeel, The Alps (tip: search for a blog named "From russia with love")

  • Can't describe in words, but this is just beautiful music, very zen-ish)))

  • O)))rly?

  • It's IMHO, of course. But don't you think this music is kind of aural contemplation?

  • Agreed!

  • I love Stars of The Lid so much; their quickly becoming my favorite group ever

  • What's great is that their style remains consistent across all their albums. It's all ultra-ambient.

  • Thanks. This is awesome!

  • Glad you enjoyed it. Their albums are excellent.
