did you try mark IV or V?you are from Europe as well. You know Mesas are very expensive in Europe. But engls are cheaper than mesas. For example Screamer. What do you think does the mesa amps deserve paying more 1000-1500 euro ?
@99mmpick Hi, that's right, mesa's are way too expensive! A 30watt combo, the cheaper model here, goes for 1500 Euros, something like almost 2000 dollars. For that price you get almost the top of the line from Engl. And here I would go Engl. And they are not very different. That mark IV and V are superb amps!!! Lots of options, but then again, with that kind of money I would buy a decent amp and a decent guitar!!! You pay the brand, but as I said, they are Superb!
hello, what engl amp do you think is better suited for death metal guitar played in drop A, the thunder 50 or the screamer? would help a lot if you replied
@CoDJihad Hey! I have had the Screamer for almost two years now, and although it is very versatile I'm looking at a new amp (dual rec. or fireball atm). If you record metal with this amp it can sound very good, but for live and bandplaying I think i would consider the fireball if you're playing mainly metal. the Screamer has little low end and is kinda bright.
I think the fireball is a little bit over my budget, I will be starting a band soon and i don't have loads of money, so will the Engl E322 Thunder 50C Drive be allright for my needs?
@CoDJihad Ok. Have you tried the thunder playing death in drop A? because if you haven't I higly advise you to try and do so. I have played the thunder, but it's been a while now. It is supposed to sound a little darker than the screamer, but gain wise I think it's just on the limit of what's enough, depending on your guitar and how much gain you're used to/ prefer. my friend who just bought a Blackmore sig, used to play on a line6 spider2. You can clearly hear that the line6 has more gain. \m/
Im not a big fan on sig amps but...if you need really crystal clear cleans and heavy, tight distortion for metal that cuts through the mix easy. go for the blackmore-separate eqs for all the channels. or if you want just the distortion go for the fireball.
Hey I also have an Engl Screamer. Do you find that the bright switch makes no difference to the amps sound? I'm wondering whether mine is broken. I'd be greatly appreciative if you could do a comparison of your sound with the bright switch in both off and on positions. Cheers!
i got me a rockytop45/50,, sounds killer,,milkshake thick, reminds me of a blackmores old marshall tone, for real, great clean too,,have you got any ,,louder than bedroom volume recordings of engl,,peace an god bless,,you play well,,come see us in the states,,atlanta,,georgia...
Grande Juca sempre em grande. Grandes sons k sacas do bixo, um dia que perca a pica de tocar com bandas ja sei o amp para ter em casa, vendo o Powerball e compro o Screamer.

Engls and Mesa's modern high gain amps, are somehow very similiar. They both have a very strong character. However the price tag is another issue. Mesa's have a solid and long reputation pushing the prices up. I've played with many mesa's "entry" range of amps, and they were superb! But for the price, they did not match Engl's mid range amps.

are the Fireball, the blackmoore and the screamer in sound a lot different compared to each other?
RemySin 2 years ago
Absolutely
ThieleM 2 years ago
fireball got the ultra modern heavy sound of the powerball, with less versatility.
the blackmore sounds like ritchie blackmore, oldschool hard rock ;)
and the screamer you just listened to.
PS: whats a problem with putting a condenser mic in front of the speaker? you can get a good one für ~150$
Nachtmahr 2 years ago
The blackmore is a more versatile head. 4 channels that are all really nice sounding and a better crunch sound than the Fireball.
The fireball has a nice clean and a great lead sound but nothing in the middle that is useful enough to cover much territory.
ThieleM 2 years ago
Im not a big fan on sig amps but...if you need really crystal clear cleans and heavy, tight distortion for metal that cuts through the mix easy. go for the blackmore-separate eqs for all the channels. or if you want just the distortion go for the fireball.
