Was this a "GREAT" time to be alive or what?? Did we have some great peoples or what?? Hard to believe that we were so COOL" that each & everyone of us, had our own, unique, individual, walk!
@jor99912 Yeah' and not to mention 10 digits on each hand that could do more than stream data together. Today, for the first time in months I have my house to myself where I can crank up my old Wurlitzer and Leslie tone cabinet. There is no more beautiful sound than a Hammond electromechanical tone wheel organ, or a Wurlitzer electromechanical electrostatic reed organ through a Leslie rotary speaker system. Of course if you must add Laurens Hammond's other invention- spring reverb!
That is Charles Crosby on drums.........Charles in my opinion was an organ drummer. He was a teacher of mine during my drumming days. I first heard him with blind Cleveland organist Eddie Baccus back in the day...Tasteful, always sharp..I miss you Charles Crosby...and you too Jimmy Smith.....yall changed my like...
I agree with all ov U. I am collecting as much as he has & others have released ov the complete Jimmy Smith catalog. I also have JTQ, Grooves & Holmes, McGriff, Lonnie smith, among others but Jimmy smith IS King ov The Hammond. 'tis great to see others on this page giving him the kudos he surely deserves.
Squabble; it looks like he's playing octaves, and trilling the octave and the note one-half step below, while holding one or two other chord notes, using the registration and some reverb to get the wonderful floating or squabble effect. Other organists use this technique, but that was one hell of a demonstration.
I have got a Jimmy Smith album which was recorded in Israel, back in 1975, where he used this squabble technique on a tune called; “Its All Right With Me”. The sound is so organic and plastic (plastisch), he seems to model his sound into a warm geyser with shapes and colours warming your soul. This proved, he was a real artist in the line up of all expressionists of the previous century.
Man!!!!! Nobody and I mean NOBODY can squabble like bruhthem Jimmy smith!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was the greatest squabbler out of them all because he invented it!!!!!! Mcgriff was good but Smith was much better! Look at his wrist technique as he floats across the water fall keys!! Nobody was like this kat! He started it all for ALL styles of music on the Hammond!
