  • it's exotic because he doesn't know music theory, he plays by the ear i think

  • this guitar fucking rules always \m/ .... and stupid if you say other thing... como toca este cabron yea.. \m/

  • Aw, I was hoping he was gonna break out the Hirajoshi scale T_T MARTY stop holding back to appease the masses. Open the gates of hell and unleash your fury upon the Metallica fan club. Grab Kirk by the throat and choke the life outta him before he does anymore work with aging classic rock icons. (O_O)

  • People wonder why I say Megadeth is WAY better than Metallica, yet if you just compareKirk to Marty its Plain to See!

  • @44SuperShredder both has their own style...and we dont know who is better

  • eh, i usually like his solos but not this one

  • @MrYugiohtradechannel its just a different type of solo. its not agressive but i respect what u said but i still love this!:)

  • this is pretty much the end of his song "angel" if someone's interested

  • Does he have standart E tunning ?

  • whats so exotic in the scales? they're just E major(ionian) and B mixolidian mode :/

  • @minaamq agree ....

  • @minaamq

These words, Ionian and Mixolidian are too long.

Please use the correct term 'exotic'.

    :p

  • @Karmoon7 No buddy, the term éxotic' cannot be used for simple modes no matter how long their name is. The word exotic should mean wierd regional scales like Hirajoshi scale, hungarian maj/minor scale or the Indian Raagas

  • @minaamq

True that. I was just being silly with my original comment.

Still, it shows just how unoriginal music can be if this is considered 'exotic'.

  • @minaamq that´s extrange for the person who maked the video ¬¬

  • @r2d2slipknot Yes but it makes a wrong impression on people's minds

  • @minaamq idk what they consider to be exotic but the only thing I see him do a lot that seems to be trademark of him is using out of key notes and somehow makin it work..

  • @minaamq dnt question marty friedman, if its exotic then it's fucking EXOTIC xD

  • @kungfudragon99 i didnt question marty... he never sed it was exotic. i was questioning the guy who put up this video and titled it wrong

  • @minaamq to some mixolydian would be "exotic"

  • That has got to be the most stock solo I have ever heard. Exotic? please.

  • Is the most liked comment about running on corn fields? I mean... what?

  • oh.. true... the E mayor is so exotic....

  • @Bruno1P E mixolydian not major

  • @sallimann345 E Ionian, B Mixolidian... E Major not mixolydian

  • U can go to ultimate guitar forum and find it in the thread Guitar techniques>Help me transcribe this song PLZ. This is the thread where i have uploaded it and i submitted it to tabs page on ultimate guitar. I belive it will be up in couple days. With name Melodic control exotic scale solo 4

  • I cant send the link :/

  • I transcribed the song in guitar pro tab

  • What's so exotic about the Major scale ?

  • @HotRodSixString he added some sushi sauce on top of it....

  • the exotic scale marty is famous for is called phrygian the scale he is playing in here is a simply minor pentatonic

  • for the first couple seconds i thought he was playing Little Wing.

  • NOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE GLAM. MARTY'S D BEST. \m/ \m/

  • this is the kinda song that woulda been playing if u were on an exotic island with a naked woman with you!!

  • For those that didn't notice , is the solo of the song "Angel" with a lil' inprovisation

  • AWANNA LAAAAARN DDDISSSSS !!

  • notes?

  • Hadn't heard much of Marty before this, but DAMN he's a good improviser

  • Sounds like "Looks like Rain"

  • At the end he looks away like "yeah bitch I just played that"

  • Marty friedman est un dieu !!!!!

  • yo no escucho las escalas exoticas, pero que es un dios no me queda la menor duda

  • the best

  • chris broderick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • This is him when he sounds best--no brOOtal metalz, just rich melody.

  • plus id need shrooms to run around and laugh like a child i love shrooms and country

  • Weed. =D

  • that's an marty's angel improvisation, fucking cool!

  • that guy (marty) is my hero

  • MITM= Marty is the MAN!

  • The way he positions his picking hand bothers me haha it looks so strange

  • @hclark428 I read that he positions his hand like that because he up-picks for emphasis as opposed to 99.99% of other guitarists who down-pick for the same.

if you watch you can see him up-picking at 0:46, and if you try this technique yourself then it so much easier to do it effectively with your picking arm and hand in this position.

    Hope that helps!

  • @MorbosDevilGrinder just by the cord field the texas chainsaw killer will appear and slice your balls..haha but yes you are correct !!!!

  • 7 Person love Hannah Montana!

  • nothing really exotic, but sounds nice

  • didnt do it for me.

  • haha @ twiebenga. so true, from an iowan:) but still, sounds fun

  • Every time I listen to this I feel the magic all over again <3

  • 7 dislikes...

    whaaat?

  • i actually picture myself sitting next too a lake with my guitar and a few beers with a hot blond chick sunbathing next to me

  • Angel

  • The cool thing about Marty, is that he can play a note that is not necessarily in the key of what is played, and it still sounds kickass :D

  • epic

  • Just beautiful!

  • Marty is great man, he has great phrasing.

  • 7 people are mad cuz they can't play awesome stuff like this lol!

  • i love this

  • Dude! I cam without even touching myself.

  • damn you most be deaf if you not like this ! this is so musical as any thing can possible be

  • 6 Kirk Hammet's fans put account on this video :)

  • @mannerohardy

    Melodic control is the title

  • what title for this whole video lesson?

  • I feel something moving inside me , is it emotion ?

  • @thrashredder no it's tape worms

  • @thrashredder it's devotion!

  • Marty has a cool picking technique, and he is just generaly amazing at guitar

  • @Aaarrrggghhification Its because hes self taught, self-taught guitarists usually have interesting techniques.

  • @69ofdoom not just that but he acutually has a reason for picking like that, it's really smart acutually he explains it in one of his videos

  • Hendrix >>>

  • thats myxolydian with a bit of major pentatonic..if you call that exotic,well..thats fine,to me it all sounds greek anyways ;)

  • it is not exotic, lot vibrato do not make something exotic :D

  • @arekmondo csb

  • @grendalss hahaha whatever scale he uses it still dont sound a shit EXOTIC, i wasnt being like you are right now, a smartass, i was just commenting it didnt sound exotic.. damn knowitall..

  • i hear a lot of Jason in that piece. The greatest shredder of all time.

  • Sounds awesome, not trade marty 'exotic' though

  • its def. not exotic, but still very good sounding, mixolydian shit i think, LOVE IT

  • you get on a les paul and a good compresion pedal and you got a hit : )

  • His my biggest idol, but he didnt invent any scale out of notes, i mean his own... because if he did that those notes would derive from another scale.

  • Marty is the best period

  • tune your fucking guitar asshole

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen Ya joking right???

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen your ears must be made of urine

  • Its simply ridiculous for a human to have this incredible melody on tap

  • lol...i expected harmonic minor...but nevertheless...pure marty

  • is not exotic scale, its just chords progression (melodic control)

  • i thought he was playing little wing at first.

  • ahhhh damn this solo plays while beautiful rain falls out my window.............EPIC

  • Sounds as a major scale to me..

  • sooo badass

  • Major pentatonic with added notes. Not exactly exotic... If it IS exotic, then the Allman Brothers must've been from the far east.

  • I could picture marty playing with any kind of band

  • make me wanna go out and run in corn fields and the sunset while laughing and drinking a bottle of fresh beer :)

  • @MorbosDevilGrinder

YOUR NAME IS MORBOSDEVILGRINDER HOW COULD YOU SAY SOMETHING SO CUTESEY AND HAPPY GO LUCKY?!?!?!?!? XD

  • @teamwork1productions hahaha! i have this account from when I was a raw metalhead, listening overall to bands like cannibal corpse, slayer, death, bloodbath and all the others... i still listen to metal sometimes, but now my musical taste are completly different, and I prefer songs like this that gives me real emotions :)

  • @MorbosDevilGrinder idk if youve ever ran through corn fields before, but the only way you would laugh while running through one would be if you had more than a couple beers. youd get some nasty cuts from the leaves and shit. and proly smack your nuts on a lot of the stocks. just sayin

  • @TWiebenga hahahhahaah dude thats fucking great i love you <3

  • @TWiebenga not to mention the spiders and shit, ugh i hate spiders

  • @TWiebenga Yeah.Just be optimistic that way :D

  • @TWiebenga i would agree id picture running through a wheat field more

  • @TWiebenga bazinggg XD

  • @TWiebenga Hilarious remark about the corn fields.

  • @TWiebenga Hahaha total buzzkill.

  • @TWiebenga Indeed I used to have corn fields and they grow twice the average height we are so you'd get instantly lost lol. Anyway nice thought...

  • @TWiebenga ah ah ah... very funny

  • @MorbosDevilGrinder smokin weed:P

  • @ismalocoss yeah, that's also a good idea :)

  • @MorbosDevilGrinder n some weed :)

  • @MorbosDevilGrinder same here, with the difference of going to sauna (im from Finland) and grill sausage and drink ice cold beer. :DD

  • what scale is this >:D!!!???!?!?!?!?!

  • @YanmingYuMusic its a mix of similar sounding scales, mixolydian, do re mi, and some pentatonic blusy stuff,

  • i love how he thinks so "Out of the box". It gives awesome and unique sounds

  • Sex music

  • Love it. Makes me think how beautiful nature is

  • Excellent and melodic!

  • Excellent and melodic!

  • Genius!!!

  • def innovative!

  • btw, marty friedman WAS good in megadeth, but if you wanna hear blow your head off awesome, listen to him in Cacophony!

  • @element5333 Eh personally I preferred his Megadeth stuff, Tornado of souls will always have a special place in my heart :D!

  • Wow, he just made sweet love to his guitar

  • idk, its good but i just dont like it that much

  • he doesnt use his pinky

but his feeling is pretty awesome

    this solo is particularly good

  • @YorkeKin simular to john petrucci

  • @Burkefolk simular to john petrucci??are you nuts..petrucci play progressive dude..u better learns more about shred..if u said simular like petrucci..i think petrucci copy marty bcoz marty play before petrucci start to play..

  • @amir2985 If you really look at all of the stuff that Marty is playing, I would honestly classify him as a progressive guitarist. I don't know how much Petrucci you know, but he pretty much playes with any type of feel, at any intensity. Petrucci is one of the most brutal shredders i can think of, but he also has some of the best feel and emotion i've ever heard. he's a real virtuoso... much like Friedman

  • @amir2985 Marty has more soul than petrucci. he's never repetitive.

  • he's just too good for humans to understand

  • def a huge guitar idol of mine, I love how marty can take a scale that seems out of place and fit in and make it melodic

  • he uses the japanese pentatonic, harmonic minor mainly for megadeth but in solo stuff pretty much anythiing, blues, major, minor, melodic minor.

  • @lightspd714 wuzza japanese pentatonic??

  • @monocyte2210 Kumoi is: 1, 2, b3, 5, 6. Hirojoshi (the one I like the most) is: 1, 2, b3, 5, b6. It works over any minor progression, pretty much.

  • @MimicDaravon ill try that out thanks man!

  • @MimicDaravon So basically C, D, Eb, G, and A?

  • Seriously. Marty Friedman is the only pro guitar player that uses eastern exotic scales. Their need to be more guitar players like this

  • Ever hear of John Petrucci? Michael Romeo?

  • yeah but they don´t use as much as marty does

  • @Throweasy03 ugh i fink kirk hammet and kerry king have also used eastern sounding scales like in songs wherever i may roam (phyrgian dominant) and Seasons in the abyss (passing persion scale). Marty just uses it most of the time. Like paul gilbert said it just depends on where your "comfort zone" is. for me they are all great guitar players they just differ in what technique they are used to and they prefer when playing

  • that wasn't too exotic, but he's using a little bit of in-sen pentatonic and maybe a little harmonic major and the blues. Don't hold me to that, I'm just some youtube dude that probably doesn't know wtf he's talking about right? The only exotic is in-sen, and i bet he doesn't even realize that he's using it...like mustainerulesxx said, he plays what he feels, it's not one particular scale. Word up to that guy.

  • 1madaboutguitar .....yeah dude ure absolutely right

  • can anyone tell me wat sclaes marty uses in stuff like this id really like to use them in my playing??? PLEZ HELP

  • aparently he uses custom scales so he just plays wat he feels instead of staying within the limits of one particular scale.

  • Nicely put. Trouble is, he understates just how much of a genius ear he has.

  • lolaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa cheryyyyyyyyyyyyy colaaaaaaaaaaaaaa lol

  • Marty Friedman is a sexy mother fucker. Don't be jealous.

  • @EpiphoneSH4 man if I was this good I'd be the most cock mother fucker on the face of the Earth

  • He lives in japan?

  • @madeinph This is exotic because of how he is in key but he plays notes outside of the scale, bending to and from those notes.

  • @madeinph fuck your mom

  • @madeinph n00b

  • @madeinph Question: who else would be able to right this solo? Answer: not a single fucking person

  • @Nickiefive you do know that it's called exotic because of the type of scale right??

  • @Nickiefive It's a scales that wasn't invented by him. So, Answer: Anybody with internet access to a computer and intermediate skill with a guitar.

  • @pangborn25 It's not the scales that he plays which makes him great. It's his own unique way of playing them. I know these scales but I can't play it the way he did on the spot because his phrasing is superb.

  • @Fuzz0Lord But you said write it, which implies creation.

  • @pangborn25 Technically he did create that melody/solo USING existing scales. That's what music is about my friend.

  • @madeinph i agree, where is the exotic part?
