To supplement pippodeltrappeto's argument, Star Wars is set in a time long ago, in a galaxy far far away. Star Trek is mainly the chronicles of Earth-Humans set in the future. Two different places and times.

Star Trek: (1966-2005) That statement is so very correct. Because IMHO the new movie does not count as it does not have the core essence if what the true "Star Trek" is all about. (the key themes were knowledge, tolerance, and morality)

@AustralianPyro I think the two are equal in their own right. Star trek is more of a science fiction while star wars is more of a space fantasy. Kind of hard to compare. It'd be like comparing an action movie to a thriller. Just doesn't work. You're more than welcome to have your preference over the two based on your tastes, but both are masterpieces.
