Is there any chance that you could tie us a pike fly. Also is there a certain kind of feather needed to create a hackle on i have tried doing hackle's with wood pigeon and magpie feathers and both did not work.I would be greatful if you could tell me what kind of feathers are best for creating a hackled fly.
This is a true art in it's self i have just mastered fly casting, well the fly land on the water now and not in the trees.I have been getting grayling and wild brown trout so i will 100% be tieing some of these flys.I was wanting to ask if there is a immatation for a Pedagree chum mixer for carp fishing one that will stay a float for some time.I have been useing cork ball's to some sucess but i feel something a little lighter would give better presentation.
love your videos - thanks. What sort of varnish do you use? I've seen people using nail polish (what I'm using) super glue, head cement,.... getting confused on where/when to use each type of finisher.
start out with nymphs and streamers...they are easy i didnt like tying drys at first cause they looking like poo then i got discouraged and almost didnt want to tie..if you do want to start out with drys do mabe grifiths gnats cause they are easy
Go to your local flyshop or Bass Pro Shops and see if they're doing a fly tying class. Most places do them for free, hoping that you'll get hooked and buy your materials there.
Learn a simple fly like a wooly bugger and practice it until they look like you could sell it in a shop. Then start expanding and practicing. It's not nearly as difficult as most people assume, the hardest part for me was learning how much pressure to apply on the thread without breaking it.
Excellent. im new to flyfishing sport. having just picked up my first vise and tool kit from ebay im ready to learn to tie. these lessons you have bought to us are invaluable to me. thankyou.
Dear Mr. Cammis--What's the spelling for "Dullbach?" Is this tied on a nymph hook?. Thanks you for your efforts. The videos are very helpful to beginners like me. Fished a bit in the Dales in September. The people and country were charming. Cheers form the Blue Ridge Mountains
good videos, i am 12 years old and i just started fly-tying a few days ago, because my step dad has a good vice and allot of feathers. i love fly tying and your videos are good.
Thank you for the videos. I have been "tying" off and on for about a year now. I can only do basic types of flies, which fortunately work for my waters. But this is the 1st time I have seen someone finish a fly by hand. I have only seen whip finishes. That was neat!
Yes, thank you for asking me! I did the wet fly spiders, also in a German variation with tail and a little grey thorax dubbing. I tied little green bugs (ant pattern). I used your hare ear nymph pattern with a wing case as a variation. But of course there is so much to learn and try out. So I am eager to see if there are any more lessons.
A proper gentleman with a flair for clearly passing on information - makes learning to tie flies an engrossing pleasure. All his flies are catchers I assure you!!! Thank you very much David
you are a master at this art Dave!

you can whip finish with your fingers to, i find it easier than with the whip finisher...
TheTeenageCaveMan 2 years ago
for all those begginers who want to know how to finish off the fly you will first need to purchase a tool called the "Whip
finnish, this saves you using your fingers and makes it alot easier. Good Luck

Mr. Cammiss... you rock!
Being a late bloomer flyfisherman (past few years) I resolved myself to only store bought flies. I had no interest in tying.
After these videos, I purchased a good vice and will get the rest shortly. Can't wait to start.
You are the "Flyfishing Inquisition"! (without the Spainish and torture, of course)
Sincerely,
John
