No that was a rap jump I have jumped off of 300 ft jumps yes he walked away alive and I am going to get a helmet cam video of me Jumping of this next year
I like how you make it look like he died. I expected him to fly back up w/ that bungee cord but he didn't . Funny. That heroine comment- make a video of you slobbering on yourself passed out on the floor. Or how about a close up of all your scabs?
Could you please write in the summary that nobody died? Not only is that the right thing to do, but I bet fewer people (myself included) would vote it down.
I used a rescue 8 that I bought at REI. Rescue 8 is larger so it doesn't get as hot. Rope did not melt and figure 8 was very warm but cool enough that I could remove it from the rope with my bare hands. Heat is mostly caused by friction while braking. I did not brake until about 50 feet from the ground so the figure 8 was not very hot. The problem is that it's VERY DIFFICULT to tell how close you are to the ground when you're falling that fast!
If I am doing a fast rappel, like in this video, I will always use a dynamic rope so that If I stop quickly, planned or not, I am much less likely to get hurt. You just have to make sure that you stop your rappel far enough from the ground, that when the rope stretches, you don't hit the ground too soon.
@EveHook Trust me you dont want to do a stop from more than 100 ft in a dynamic rope it is like taking a huge fall and it can break if you go fast.... I do a 130 ft aussie and my 8 is super hot and an expert told me that if you dont take it out of the rope fast it can damage the rope on the spot you stop.. :)
do you recommend dynamic line over static ropes? because most people i know of rappel on static ropes but it does seem like stopping at the end would be a lot more comfortable with dynamic.
you are retarded my friend. do you honestly think no one else was able to notice the rope? its called rap jumping or aussie rappelling. next time read the description before you make yourself sound like an idiot.
Welding gloves! Wow' thanks for that tip - I was looking for a good pair of gloves for this purpose' I wasn't liking what I was finding and you just opened up some new considerations.
@henebb The info you're looking for already is in the uploader comments; but I used a Yates Assault Harness with Rear D Ring (made for this kind of rappel) and welding gloves to protect my hands. On this jump I wore several tight shirts. Tight so that they wouldn't get caught in the figure eight: and several so the rope could burn through my shirts instead of my skin. I have years of experience and started with short survivable jumps. Be careful!!!!
@henebb Technique is a huge issue for a jump this high, and is too complicated for a short explanation. You should not attempt a rappel from this height or even close.
I use to go to this bridge everyday when I lived in Taos and was always scared to even get on it. Sadly I know of people who have used this bridge to commit suicide. Good to see it used for recreational use, but please becarful for anyone looking to replicate this jump. I commend this crazy guy!
i have always wondered what kind of decender you used, i jumped a 400ft cliff in a couple of seconds by the time i got down i had ruined my rope and figure 8 but i got me a rescue 8, i want to rappel the new river gorge, wv bridge but im pretty sure your not aloud to do it ausse, so evehook you should hook me up wit some ideas on places i can go thats over 400ft, anything 400ft or more is worth the drive. RED RIVER GORGE ALL THE WAY
i used 2 dbi/sala tie off connectors, a new 10 mm dynamic rope, a yates assault harness with rear D-ring, a rescue 8 rappel device, and welding gloves.
