I gotta agree, setting the hook immediately always works. Because the fish can swallow the hook if you wait to long or do a slow set. When you set the hook immediately you keep that fish from swallowing that hook. Because if they get it deep down, theres a 90% chance that fish is going to die. And I hate killing fish I usually throw back.

The only acception (for me) is Gar Fishing, sometimes I'll wait minutes before setting the hook when fishing for Gar :p

Let him swallow first. I open my reel and count to 10, then pick up slack and hook. Nice advice by the way.

What most people do? Floater goes down, they pull. That's how you lose fish.
