@mmencius " I believe in one God, and no more; and I hope for happiness beyond this life. I believe in the equality of man; and I believe that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow-creatures happy."
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". I'm an atheist, but as long as congress isn't making laws endorsing religion or keeping people from practicing their religion, it's constitutional.
goddman you're dumb. i'd love to put a darwin fish up your ass.
You know, you fucking illeterate moron, that there is no right to own guns in the constitution either? Bet you don't agree with that, do you you redneck?
Soldiers, Commanders & Barracks or any other armed forces are STATE/GOVERNMENT RUN, they are not private.
While I agree that religion has freedom to be practiced without government intrusion, it by no means gives ANY STATE/GOVERNMENT run facility a right to force someone to participate in or practice any particular religion.
It is not "unfortunate" it is wrong what the commander did.
If our Government/State allows this then it is promoting a bias FOR a particular religion.
"the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion" -Treaty of Tripoli, 1797
I'm not being a "far-left anti-religionist" for believing in religious neutrality. You might think secularists like myself are being hostile toward religion, but we really aren't. If we wanted the promotion of atheism, believe me, you would notice.
You don't seem to understand that putting crosses on public property is using the government's money. The government paid(or fought) for the land and the government pays for the upkeep.
Not using the government's assets to fund religion is not punishing the religious.
@TheFenceandtheJug For a republican (style of goernance, not the party) government like ours, in principle, the "government's money" doesn't exist. The money the government gets from taxpayers is to be used as they taxpayers see fit, not as the unelected bureaucrats or out-of-order judges deem it. Its called "public" land because its everyones, not the government's. And because it is is everyones' land, people should be able to put up whatever religious monuments they wish within reason.
@ElectusAnimus Yes, I totally agree. All laws should be subject to the public's approval at any given time. So if the people suddenly decide to make murdering christians legal I would be totally okay with that.
But I am for the government's land being used for what the government used the taxpayers' money for. I would not be interested in converting the CIA building to a national wildlife reserve or some other nonsense.
@megahirosheb Jefferson was mostly a Deist, someone who still believed in God but did not follow the normal Protestant sect strains that were popular in colonial America.

Guess who said that.

Interesting how I'm hearing others say that this was the video that turned them against you, when it is the one that has convinced me to subscribe.

saying all presidents believed in a god is a moot point because do you really think a atheist could get elected as president?

They should not have punished these soldiers.

Presents the points that are right on both sides, and the wrong. Government has no right in religion, and religion has no right in government.
