kids like this should not have , own ..or be around cars like this ...a carb is something they just dont understand ...thats it kid..blow it the fuck up over a 12 buck rebuild kit for the carb .......geeze if that was my kid i would kick his ass for doing that
If it's a 302 and has Ford's Variable Venturi carb, then it's a hopeless case unless you change it to a normal carb. I don't believe V V's can be rebuilt and a new one used to be about $800. They created the worst of all worlds with that carb--horrible performance and bad gas mileage. By '78, the only decent engines from Ford were the 460's.
Carb is bad. Had this problem too. Sometimes a rebuild and thorough soak in parts cleaner overnight and blast with compressed air through all the passages will fix it, sometimes the core is bad. Reving the engine to 5500 and 6000 rpm will throw a rod in no time on that engine tho. '70s and '80s engines weren't meant for more than 5500 rpm, and only on a low-output engine. Anything over 260hp and you should keep it below 5100 rpm if yo uwant it to last.
In order to warm it up correctly, start the engine then pin the gas pedal to the floor for about one minute. You will just about get 6,000 rpm that way (rather than the 5,750 rpm you're getting here with valve bounce) and will be all set for your journey. Don't forget to post a vid of it!
That's not correct. When the engine it's cold the LAST thing that you had to do it's to keep it running on high RPM's rate's. Until that the engine gets the correct work temperature, you have to keep it on low rpm's rate (between 600's and 2000).
@pulandlordal LOL Engines on this cold of a start have no oil pressure when you first start them, if you pinned it that would be the absolute WORST thing for it. You gotta let it slowly warm up and idle as low as possible for about 5 minutes, THEN start revving her a bit. No different than a dirt bike, just build up to it.
bad ass!

In another video, we discover that it's a 351 - so no VV carb.
I see two end results for this car..... rebuild/replace the carb and get it running right... or blow up the engine and wonder why it happened.

Too bad-I would've liked to see the tailpipe shooting all the unburned gas out from your revs! I bet your neighbors really love you! (:
