I love how after the train probably scared the shit out of him, he goes right back up to the tracks and resumes his walk down the middle of the mainline.
@tartopfan Technically the E60s weren't replaced by AEM-7s they were mothballed during the mid 1980s until Amtrak brought them back. Twelve would be sold off and the rest stayed with Amtrak to be rebuilt into E60MAs. They were used on long distance trains and the Clockers until their 2003 retirement. The HHP-8s replaced the E60s. It's kind of strange how the HHP-8s are the ones that are going to be replaced in a few years and they are only 11-12 years old.
The ACS-64 in 2013. That's short for Amtrak Cities Sprinter. It will have 8600 h.p. and is being built by Siemens. They will replace the DC tractioned AEM-7s first and then the AC tractioned AEM-7s and finally the HHP-8s.
@kmothersil ah ha. I looked it up right after i read your first post. I'm looking forward to 2013. I guess thats where the money goes. when I first started college my acela tickets were like $75. in the end it cost about $135
The Acela is a train that has very high ridership, so seeing a price increase is not too shocking. Viewliner IIs are coming in during the fall of 2012.
@jimmyp42002 I realized this as I posted it, but Youtube doesn't make their delete buttons obvious enough. I know where it is- but it didn't find it at 2:00 in the morning.
@cyndie26 The man was breaking the law by being on the tracks in the first place, and what reasonable judge would ever say that the driver of a train with a stopping distance of over a mile is to blame for an accident like that?
When I didn't see him behind the pole I said to my friend, "Yep, he's dead. Idiot". Luckily, he's maybe a hobo and doesn't know about the Internet to read this.
Tom201090 Amtrak can run either direction, north or south on either side. The control center is rather sophisicated and so far Amtrak has never had an accident on the NEC. Switches are located very close to each major city the line covers and every few miles along the corridor. Hope that hels
I visit the station to rail fan often. What the guy did not no is that some times the Acela and The NorthEast Regional run North on what is usually the soutbound side in Sharon. If one Had been coming north in the southbound corrdior we would be talking bug on a windsheild time
@ljliii how far do they run North too on the Southbound line and why don't they use the Northbound line? Is there a switch (or point as they are known in the UK) they use which only provides access to the S/Bound line
I remember when I was around ten years old I would watch trains blast through Linden. I would stand on the center platform but never dared to cross over to the station. Instead went under the bridge.
Wow its scary and dumb that somebody would even THINK of walking down the NEC but i did laugh a little when the train came flying into the frame and there was a hobo on the track ahead.
That man is very crazy! At least he got out of the tracks so the engineer didn't need to go through all of the nonsense. Awesome catch! Nice horn action from the AEM-7! 5 stars!
He must have been quick to move when the train did come. Engineer didn't blow the horn anymore after the station. He must have been scared though when he saw that guy just walking down the tracks like that.
The signals were clear and everything. And after the train passed he got right back on the tracks! What an idiot! Too bad ya didn't have a better view (train coming toward the station in the other direction so you get to see the idiot jump out of the way)
that sucked. I wanted to see that guy get wasted.

@Spacek531 wrong, the NEC operates trains at 100+ on a daily basis.

If you're smart enough to not act like a deer in headlights, you can walk on tracks all you want to.

"OH NO! There is a train coming! Whatever shall I do?!!!? [sidesteps off tracks]"

he shouldn't be tresspassing on the NEC tracks, not only is it very dangerous, if a police officer spooted him, he would be arrested.

Should have stopped the video at 1:02 and told everyone he had jumped onto the front of the train and was hitch hiking to the next station.

Now at 60 mph it takes a freight train 2 miles to come to a full stop
It would take over 4 miles to stop a Northeast regional...
Moral of the story? Stay off train tracks.

The green signal indicated thathe train was NOT approaching from behind the trespasser.
Had it been approaching from behind, the engineer would have seen the trespasser in plenty of time to sound a brief warning on the horn.
Neatelescopic effect.
