  • @mikeydude671 maybe this causes the world to implode..

  • Perths smart rider is better

  • unlike hong kong's octopus card and tokyo passmo myki takes forever just to beep

  • @kang1996 the ones at the metcard gates Yes but they have new myki gates at some of the city stations e.g. Parliament, Melbourne Central and their great!

  • And thus it has been scrapped.

  • I use it and love it!

  • Put it in the bin now, why wait till its painfully obvious ?

  • ha ha ha ha ha where the laughing stock of the world !!! :D

I tried to get violently angry but the "Broki" system is so crappy I had to laugh. :D

  • Ashley Brient you are such a Labor stooge. Anyone who does a quick Google on your name can read all the biased crap you publish to other online talkback websites that are ALL pro Labor. I find it funny also that someone who is trying to promote their business, even if it does look very amateurish with links that don't work, call themselves "Homeboy Ash" on Facebook. LOL!

  • I was reading a report and, myki never cost 1 billion, the liberal party made up bullshit saying it cost 1.3 billion, when it was only over budge by around 200 million, which includes the operation of myki for the next 10 years, so, when you work out all the fees, myki isn't over budget!

  • @walkabout09

Now, The Desalination Plant isn't foreign owned! Also, Myki never even cost near 1 billion, that's what the Liberal party said, and, it's a lie, and i know that know, take a look under Freedom of Information,

It seems your lying at of you ass, maybe because your part of the liberal party,

and if Premier John Brumby was correct, how come he is funding so many projects in Victoria?? more transport projects than any Government since Federation!! now, don't come on here and lie!

  • @walkabout09

The liberal party are lieing just to win the election, that's the only way they win, by lieing, the labor party has funded more projects than any Government since the 1960's!

  • @walkabout09

And you know something, John Brumby didn't fund Myki at all,

If he wanted to, he couldn't cancel it!!

the last premier has funded the operation of Myki for the next 10 years, and, it's not John Brumby that's lieing, it's the leader of the Liberal party, he tried saying that Victoria is more unsafe than Sydney, when, rating untaken showed that Victoria was the safest state in Australia, (King Cross in Sydney has more crime than Melbourne and Brisbane put together!

  • @walkabout09

That's currect, the brumby Labor Government knows to get major events which generate millions in to Melbourne,

Tiger Woods Show + 3 Million = 38 million, this year, they say that it could be much higher, of around 61 million or more!

  • Comment removed

  • @walkabout09

Your saying that if Melbourne spends 3 million and gets 38 million in return, that's a joke? and you know something, when Tiger Woods comes back to Melbourne this year, there is going to be more people than last year, as stated by many reports,

Last year, Melbourne gave him 3 million to show up, and, he Generated over 38 million back to Melbourne, now, if i'm not mistaking, that's 13 times of 3 million!

  • @walkabout09

oh what, and your saying that spending 3 million and making 38 million back is a joke??

  • @walkabout09

She spent money on schools, and no it's wasn't "bankrupt",

Also, in 1999, Victoria was in debt! and, liberal never spent money,

And another thing, what happened in the 90's has got nothing to do with Premier John Brumby, premier John Brumby hasn't even got the state in anymore debt, that's one of the reasons why the transport plan is being done in stages!

Remember, the leader of the liberal party now 'TED' is the same person from 10 years ago, that supports all them cuts!!

  • @walkabout09

and, they stated they would fund 1966 Police by this budget, they had stated this 2 years ago and didn't lie, John Brumby has never lied in Government, your just a loser, you know John Brumby has done a lot for Victoria, and you just want him out! dick head!!

  • @walkabout09

Your a loser, Myki Operates on all country bus service with a 99% pass rate, and is operating on metro trains,

I'm going to vote for the Brumby Government, and i know a lot more people that will to, John Brumby has only been Premier for 3 years, he never funded the Myki project, however, he did fund the transport plan! and, it is impossible to fund things without knowing the issue, and they can't fund it untill the yearly budget, the last budget even included 2.000 extra Police,

  • @walkabout09 Both sides should be out, it is time time we got rid of them both, so far we can only really pick one or the other it like picking the fire or pan, they'll both burn you in the end.

  • @walkabout09

Your part of the Liberal party!! i know this!!!!

  • @walkabout09

Stop talking shit about the Victorian Government, the labor party are funding for projects, the liberal party never funded for any projects when they were in office before,

Because of the labor party, Victoria has one of the world's most advanced and best health systems!

  • @walkabout09 I should put on my thing thow this card away.

  • The leader of the Liberal Party now is the same person that was in liberal before and he supported all them jobs cut, liberal even cut tram conductors from the network, labor has even said there going to look at bringing them back!

  • You know, the Brumby Labor Government has a transport plan, they have funded an order of 50 more trams, 280 new buses, 80 new metro trains, and 100 new V/Line trains, they aso funded to build more train stations, like Williams landing etc, the last time liberal were in Government, they closed 300 schools, cut 800 Police Jobs, liberal also cut 2.900 medical job, and closed over 120 hospitals, liberal even closed railway lines, and now the liberals are planning to do the same if there elected!

  • @ashleybrient having more trains buses and trams will make it worst as it may make a bottleneck.

  • 90% is bad when you have about 2,000,000 people useing transport everyday.

  • @Alucardthedeadone

Seeing that more and more people use public transport, Myki needs to come in now, not in the next five years or never, MetCard can't operate with that amount of people and MetCard is so old, they can't even get parts for it anymore, Myki is integrated for the whole state, not just the city, and Myki is cheaper than MetCard!

  • @ashleybrient No I kind of worked it out a myki is not much cheeper then a metcard, metcard for a year is $1173 where is a Miky is $1170, For people that buy long time cards I do see how $3 per year is worth anything. Now even if each met card cost $0.02 cents to make it is still a rip off if 250,500 people APX buy a tickked each day 0.02 x 250,500 $5010 perday. Yes myki does cost more to make but once made it is made for life of the card. I think the prices are not much bettter in the long run

  • @Alucardthedeadone

It's cheaper than that! here is both(There all full fare): Myki 2 Hour Zone 1: $2.94, MetCard 2 Hour Zone 1: $3.70. Myki 2 hour zone 1 & 2: $4.96, MetCard Zone 1 & 2: 5.80. This is why Myki is cheaper, Myki charges you the bulk price, eg: a yearly ticket is like buying in bulk.

  • @Alucardthedeadone

A yealy Myki is a bit cheaper than MetCard, but a yearly ticket is buying in bulk, some people buy a yearly ticket, others buy a daily ticket for there needs,

if you buy eg: monthly ticket (MetCard), and work out how much each cost, because there in bulk, they would be the same as Myki, Myki only charges the bulk price, but instead of getting the bulk amount, you only get the cheaper price!

  • @ashleybrient it still over priced

  • Myki would be great! (if it worked...).

  • @Glorfindel117

I think Myki might be working on buses very soon, i tested some systems in a Melbourne Bus Link bus the other day and came up good, it scanned on and off!

  • i hav a myki and it is a complete SHIT! i need to put the card onto the sensor thing for like 10 seconds to open the frkn gate! and this is most embarrassing when im trying to pass the gate during times when theres heaps of people and many behind me. IT feels as if theyre saying 'wat is this guy doing? get out of there, we need to pass thru!' Pissed me off so much i just jump over them even in front of those guards. metcard takes one second and works so much finer and smoother.

  • @kmach1993

MetCard is old, they can't get parts for it anymore, and, Myki is much better, it's just having some issues at the moment, IT issues,

Consider that Myki is cheaper, and is integrated around Victoriam, not just Melbourne!

  • i hav a myki and it is a complete SHIT!

  • What a disgrace. We need competent govt.

  • OMFG what a load of shit! I cannot believe the government didn't go with an off the shelf system already up and running in London and Singapore.

  • I wish you were our transport minister...

  • @poagee

This is the thing about Myki, Myki is the largest transport ticketing system in the world, which consist of over 950 codes, the one in Hong Kong has only 44 codes,

This is a form of software, the more codes, there more things it can do, and, Myki is cheaper than MetCard, and Myki is integrated with train, tram, bus, V/Line and interstate buses like, Geelong, Bendigo etc! MetCard only works on Melbourne, train, trams and buses!

  • Just caught the news tonight.....What a complete f@$k up...Kosky should be called back for her pathetic stuff up....Brumby should be called to answer....another year before it is ready I hear...what about those who have put money on their cards and are ready to travel......Laughing stock of the world...No wonder we lost the most livable city in the world tag.....Have clowns in charge and you get a joke.....sad thing is tax payers don't find it too funny!

  • @Lobonsky also not many people in Australia know that Taxes are not even leagle in Australia anyway.

  • Cmon Victoria Myki will never work. Kamco and Brumby are treating you all like fools. The system was a great farce from the start, bring on the Japanese system, wont be long, once again we all see how pathetic this government is. It's not their money it's ours that why they don't care and continue to lie

  • Comment removed

  • If your talking about tracking, there is now way to track a person at all, they can only see the zones you use, not the stations,

  • what is wrong with metcards???

  • Myki is fucking shit. Melbournes public transport is so fucking annoying

  • That and once you're off the system you aren't tracked anymore, I don't see the issue.

  • I'm not saying that tracking is good, but determining your tag on and off points certainly isn't tracking; every smartcard with an RFID chip does this. It's the only way to calculate a fare.

  • It's the same idea as Oyster in London, and that's not considered a threat to privacy; it's actually innovation. However, the Victorian government truly screwed this one up.

  • Why the fuck should any government project go 'overbudget' surely the competing companies pushing this type of technology should tender for the project at a fixed cost and should it be finished late the government should be compensated on our behalf... FFS this is a slap in the face to the taxpayer from a shambolic government.

  • @iamnotascientist the reason it is over budget is because when a myki reder fails you still need to pay for the guy or girl to come over and fix or even replace the reader he does not do ir for free he needs to be paid.

  • @Alucardthedeadone

The Government have already paid the operation of Myki for the next 10 years.

  • @iamnotascientist

Remember, a new project like Myki has to come along in every city some time, MetCard is outdated and they can't get parts for it anymore,

Myki only has IT issues at the moment,

Also, Myki is the largest transport ticket system in the world, it has over 950 codes, the one in Hong Kong only has around 45, the one in Perth has 30,

And Myki is integrated with train, tram, bus, V/Line and country buses!!

  • @ashleybrient myki is not in Hong Kong, Myki is the smallest card system in the world, it is only used in melbourne and if the paid for 10 years I want my money back.

  • @Alucardthedeadone

What i said was, Hong Kong has a Smart Card system, and, i never said i was called Myki, because it's not! Hong Kong has Octopus card,

Also, Myki is used all around Victoria, not just Melbourne, train, tram, bus, country and interstate buses, V/Line buses and Town Buses, including country and V/Line train services, and yes, it is the largest ticket system in the world, Myki is the 3 largest IT project in the world!

  • @Alucardthedeadone

Melbourne has over 400km of tram track which makes Melbourne tram system the largest in the world, and, Melbourne has around 350km or train tracks, and 2.400 of country rail services (Passanger Services), and over 500 bus routes,

Myki is the 3rd largest IT project in the world, with more built in codes than any other transport ticket system! and remember, Myki is statewide, not just Melbourne!

  • @ashleybrient myki is just in melbourne it ment to be state wide but it may be 2 years b4 it starts.

  • @Alucardthedeadone

No, Myki is, at the moment statewide,

Myki is operating on every country bus service in Victoria, in Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Mildura, and so on, it's also working on Melbourne's metro train system, which may have some errors,

  • @Alucardthedeadone

Also, i just want to let you know, the user "walkabout09", has been talking shit about the labor party to try and get them out, he is trying to do this because, he knows that labor has done more for this State than liberal, labor has policies, the only thing liberal did when they were last in was, cut 800 Police job, cut 2.900 medical jobs, close 120 hospitals, and liberal closed over 300 schools! and liberal cut tram conductors!

  • @Alucardthedeadone

Since John Brumby has been in office for the last 2 and a half years, more people want to live in Victoria then ever, and because of him, we know have much more,

labor have extended over 80km of metro rail track, and ordered over 100 new trains, 50 new trams, 280 new buses, labor has even planned new towns near geelong, and williams landing, etc,

    and,

  • @Alucardthedeadone

The Labor Party even managed to get Tiger Woods again, and you know something, the leader of the liberal party stated that it was wrong for the Victoria Government to spend 3 million dollars for him to come here,

But you know something, we may spend 3 million for him to come here, but, last year when he was here, we paid him 3 million and he Generated 38 million in to the Victorian Economy, so we got more then double out money back,

  • @Alucardthedeadone

If the liberal party was in office right now, we wouldn't have got Tiger Woods,

and, because of the labor party, we have the Australian Open, the Grand Prix and still have the AFL Grand Final even know Sydney were trying to get it,

And, we have the Airshow which, all have been recontracted! all these things generate som much money in to Victoria, it makes our state betterm i have many reasons why the labor party should stay in for another 4 years!!!!!!

  • Telstra said they are going to try and upgrade the network again in Melbourne to 200mbps! there upgrading Melbourne first because the Telstra Head Office is here (HQ) and they have more customers in Melbourne than other states, as stated by Telstra, visit the bigpond website

  • Oh and something people should know about, Telstra have upgraded the cable speed to 100mbps in Melbourne only, every other state has still got something like 17 and 30mbps, Optus also has plans to upgrade their network to 160mbps, Telstra have completed their upgrade and is now available in Melbourne, other states should follow within a year Telstra says,

  • ...how long does it take for these companies to get a system like this running? Myki, T-Card...Australian transport systems are just *FAIL*

Can't the government just buy a system that's already been up and working in other countries for the past 12 years?

  • 0:54 and 2:04 is EPIC fail

  • Over $1,3 billion+ for a new system card. Makes me wonder if it's worth it.

  • It's interesting that the government want to launch the system during the holidays. That suggests they aren't confident in the system and expect that it will crash under a heavy load of users. Also, I heard that the business responsible for supplying parts for metcard, located in Belguim, were going out of business so the government purchased enough parts to ensure that the metcard maintenance company, Onelink, can provide maintenance until 2015 just in case Myki is a flop and no one uses it.

  • Sorry, I wasn't responding to you so I didn't say you said anything lol

  • @ashleybrient

You dolt. Australia's public transport infrastructure is absolute horseshit compared to the rest of the world. Ditto to our telecommunications. We will be JUST getting on par with the new NBN. Stop talking out of your ass.

  • Comment removed

  • Aren't you going to investigate "absoi" for his comments?

  • And the Myki system is designed to expand!

  • What a dick head, Melbourne has had "optic fibre" cables since 1995, and Australia is the first country to upgrade to the Next G network, and we have had the Next G network for about 6 years now,

  • The point is ashleybrient, is that the 65 zones Myki design to do can be simplified and be flexible. If 65 zones are too expensive and complicated for Myki to handle, then restructure the zones so that Myki can have flexible and simplified structure to follow, and improve the level of user-friendliness for customers. People are not going to care the complications Myki goes through, if you have a working smartcard system, people are happy, if not, then those who designed Myki are incompetent

  • the more zones are to use V/Line services, and interstate buses, and the Melbourne system has to do more than the one in hong kong, it has already been recorded by people who know a lot more on IT then you! also, people in hong kong don't know as much as Melbourne, Melbourne is the IT capital!

  • You definitely haven't been to Hong Kong, Hong Kong has already been using optic fibre for its internet network since 2003, and Melbourne doesn't even have a decent high speed internet available, making internet unreliable and slow, about IT hardwares, Hong Kong are 2 generations ahead of Melbourne, and the rest of Australia. Since the Conception of Octopus card, there are more than 10 million cards are in circulation, with 10 million daily transaction worth at US$3.7 billion per year.

  • Comment removed

  • The myki system will be maintained here in Melbourne, it will cost 5 million in the first 10 years, the old MetCard system was that old, they couldn't get parts for it anymore and it's way outdated. Melbourne is undergoing the most advanced ticket system so people pay less!

  • I doubt that note acceptor was the fault of Myki.

  • Comment removed

  • Captain F@#K at work.....Gary tripping over his words and as for Lynne......well.....surprised if she could get

her knickers on without stuffing up....don't worry.... the public will let you know!......Your system is stuffed baby....90%.......How much is the paypacket !

  • AHAHAHAH, what a bunch of morons. Lynne Kosky is a joke.

  • How can she talk about us having faith in the system when it's cost so much and still doesn't appear to work.

  • People that are posting comments that are not from Melbourne have no right to say bad things about this city or the ticketing system, this new system is a lot better and will work on all public transport in Victoria, it's also a custom built system unlike what they have in perth, i have looked in to this and even know this cost more, this one id better!!

  • How is it better? Is it 22 times better to justify the cost?

  • I thinkl they should of spent the money on buying new trains and kept the current ticketing system which is better, because you don't have to scan your card when you get off the train

  • The old ticket system is that old, they can't get parts for it anymore, when they Victoria needed parts for the old MetCard ticket system, thay got them from perth rail and sydney rail because thay have something like this as well, and Muki saves people money, with the SmartCard, they have taken down the price, and also, Myki is already working on over 300 buses in country area's of Victoria and it's has been for a long time now,

  • the victorian government threw 1.35 billion dollars away. where is perth only spent like 25 million and got theres working already LOL..

  • y cant we keep the metcard instead what a joke

  • It's already outdated now. Read the comments below, where there are cards that are not required to be put into any system, you only need to bring ur bag or wallet containing the card near the scanner and it reads the card. Such a system should have been installed.

  • MetCard work on Train, Tram, and Metro buses, the Myki system will work on all them as well as V/Line and country buses, even interstate buses that go from Victoria! also, this cost so much because of how advanced it is, the myki ticket system is the 3rd biggest IT project in the world and the biggest & advanced ticket system in the world!

  • Well you've certainly bought the line haven't you? Perhaps you work for them.

We have been told for years that Mickey will do this, Mickey will do that. It's crap mate.

I have used a Metcard on V/Line - in fact Metlink website tells you which zone card to buy. So what's left of your additional services? Country buses? Whoohoo.

As for "3rd biggest IT project". Yeah, that would be by budget. You get that when you're a billion over the original price!

  • Comment removed

  • It's Myki, not "Mickey", maybe your not from Melbourne! also, the metlink website has been designed to service information only for all public transport services in Victoria, metlink is not the same as metcard, people think that because they see the metlink logo on the ticket and the ticket is called metcard!

  • ashleybrient

I have lived in Melbourne for over 20 years & do not own a car so I use public transport quite a lot.

20 years is long enough to have seen conductors, massive strikes, privatisation, serial under-investment, 3 ticketing systems & continuous promises & excuses from a generation of politicians!

The government has been sold a pup mate.

  • The Octopus card system in Hong Kong is bigger, yet it only has a capital cost of the whole system is $90 million, thats less than 1/10 of the cost of the Myki system. The point of Myki is to make an efficient and simple smart electronic fare system, clearly, it has failed to do that.

  • They should learn how Hong Kong did that. They use the Octopus card system which is so fast use need 0.1second and you don't even need up pull the card out from your bag or wallet. Even KFC and Mcdonald's in Hong Kong uses it. Even buying a paper, train, bus anything!

  • We don't need to know how Hong Kong did it, we're smarter than them, the Myki system does more and is the most advanced ticket system in the world, and with myki, you don't need to pull the card out of your wallet as well

  • Comment removed

  • Hong Kong has a much more complicated fare system than Melbourne has, Hong Kong's systems serves the public bus and light buses, light rails, metro, suburban rail, ferries, as well as convenient stores, shops and restaurants, that would require a much more complicated fare calculation systems. The advantage of Octopus is flexibility and simplification, it has the flexibility to expand, and a simplified fare system which the Transport Authority had design to be user friendly.

  • also, Myki has to service the Melbourne tram network which is the biggest in the world, and the city service light rail. in 2010, it will do more as people use it more, when hong kong got there system, they didn't set it up with everything like this, they set one thing up at a time!

  • The advantage of Octopus Card system is their ability to expand, now the Octopus system handles 7 metro lines, 2 suburban lines, a large light rail and tram network, intercity train lines between Hong Kong and China, 3 bus services serving 420 routes, and also dozens of cross border buses. It also handles dozens of transactions from convenient stores and restaurants. It also comes in all forms, in watches, cards, phones, and its expanding, Myki starts big, but its too rigid and frail to expand.

  • oh and melbourne sets higher standards than hong kong, hong kong are "dumb"

  • Comment removed

  • I love this thing - it's like having the comedy festival all year. It will be a permanent monument to Peter Bachelor's incompetence & Lynne Kosky's stubbornness.

  • lol what a joke. when are we going to get it right?

  • They just need more time to test and improve the system before public announcement. Their only "fault" may be too high-sounding...

  • what a fukn sham. $1 billion for that shit.

  • It should have gone to repairing the 50 year old, wooden sleepered rails that the trains (barely) run on. During the heat wave, all they did was push the warped rails together with a bulldozer. Prior to that, only the most useless stations on the network like Laburnum, Heatherdale, Keilor Plains and Kananook were completely refurbished.

There were two V/Line derailments in the same location in three days once, they simply put both trains back on the track and continued as if it never happened.

  • privatisation well well
