All squirrels will do this if starving. They are very much like rats or mice and willing to eat almost anything if their vital berries, nuts, shoots etc aren't available. They do not seem to infact eat much of the prey but instead focus on the stomachs, intestines etc where the bird's food is at, so in essence they are just eating digested birdfood. When unable to find water they also may hunt simply for blood to drink. Overall this is more often done by starving nursing mothers. Poor bird

thats not a bird .what he is doing is gathering stuff to make its nest out of.they use sticks and leaves for the outside and if they can find other stuff like pillow stuffing etc they will use it too and they will chew the covering to get at it.

@chevythecat1 Actually, squirrels are omnivores. They do eat meat, if given the opportunity. Although, not closely related to rats, they have a similar natural diet, composing of small animals, and plant matter. Squirrels will eat anything rats eat, and that includes mice, small birds, small snakes, lizards, frogs, insects and etc.

Ground squirrels or red squirrels are the meanness kind they are small than tree squirrels but they are very fast and very mean. Ground squirrels eat birds eggs and kill birds too.

Tree squirrel ofter runs away from the feeder when ground squirrel appear.

This is Actually wery common and a little known fact to many.

Squrriels do in case eat birds or other small dead animals they may find. And they love small birds eggs too, and they are quite good at getting them.

So never be fooled by the inocent look. they are like all other rottens (eat the same almost) just more beatifull.
