Thank God Brain Singer has nothing to do with the Man of Steel now. Superman Returns was the worst comic book movie I have ever watched! Kevin Smith hit the nail on the head when explaining what was wrong. It was just a 2 hour bore-fest of pure bullshit! I hope Zack Snyder can save Superman becuase if the next movie fails, you will never see another movie about hm again.
Superman Returns is so underrated. Everyone was comparing it to all the other flashy superhero movies. I was so glad it wasn't like that. To me, it was more genuine.

I think Superman Returns had a good movie in there somewhere. I actually think the so called "EMO Superman" could have been good in small doses. It was full of problems though, the story wasn't big enough for the big screen though. It was fairly obvious that the kid was Superman's from the beginning and despite some good ideas, they didn't add much to the superman mythos.
I liked Superman Returns for the exact reasons why he disliked it!! It was character driven, didn't rely on action, and just very different from your typical superhero movie. It's much better than X-Men 3!!

I'm conflicted about Superman Returns. I love the character, and I missed seeing him in movies. I have to agree with Kev though, SR was somewhat boring. They should've done more with the kid with super powers. That would've been a hell of a movie if the kid was flying around and causing trouble and Superman had to do damage control.

"Superman Returns" could have been an acceptable film if Superman had actually been fighting a villain and Lois Lane did not have a kid. @trentkill In recent superhero films, the character of the hero's secrect identity is just as important as the guy in the costume (if not more so) look at Iron Man, Batman Begins and Spider-man, those films were more about Tony Stark, Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker than the costumes they wore. Superman returns was a throwback to the silver age of comics where Clark Kent was a mere disguise.

Be careful what you wish for. If all you care about is action, then in theory you would have no problem with Michael Bay directing Superman and giving him the "Transformers" treatment. I agree that Superman Returns needed more action, but I do NOT want to see a movie that's all action and no character development...but I'm worried that the message we're sending to Warner Brothers is that that's what we want.
@PoliteElliot- I disagree. At least XMen3 kept me AWAKE. I fell asleep nearly 1/4th of the way into Bryan Singer's snorefest of a Superman failed film.
One thing....in "Superman IV," Lois told Superman that she remembered everything about her and Superman, if not that Clark is Superman. Yeah, IV wasn't the greatest, but they did set that up. And based on other scenes in the film, it is obvious that she remembers being with him, otherwise she wouldn't be as upset with him as she was.
I didn't think Superman was "emo" either. He was upset about things, but it doesn't stop him from doing his calling like it did in in "Spider-wuss 2."

He made one mistake: in Superman 2 there was a scene of Lois and a depowered Clark in bed at the fortress of solitude. I believe that's where she got pregnant. But since they Assumedly had sex after he gave up his powers, why would his kid have powers? Superman Returns was indeed an abomination. A wasted opportunity.
Kevin Smith saw a different movie. He can't even describe what happened in Superman Returns.

actually, the "Memory Kiss" was used exactly once, back in the Silver Age, when Superman was pulling new powers out of his ass on a weekly basis
X-Men 3 would've been better, if they had not tried to combine the Cure storyline with the Dark Phoenix Saga (both of which could've been an individual movie) and focused more on characters that weren't named Wolverine

my personal fave of all time is the first Superman film.
Which made Singer's Superman extra disappointing for me.

I like Kevin Smith and his funny ass movies(except Cop Out) but he's just hating cause that bastard producer Jon Peters gave him the boot in the 90's to direct a Superman movie with a giant robot spider! But even though he's right about how boring it was, but the action scenes were sick especially the airplane one!

I think the key to a great Superman movie is not to "pretend" to be dark.
Let the movie get REALLY dark...really sinister...really fuckin dark...till the point of despair and no return..even the jadest of the jaded, the most cynical of the cynical, will cry with loud howls, and THEN....

I'm conflicted about Superman Returns. I love the character, and I missed seeing him in movies. I have to agree with Kev though, SR was somewhat boring. They should've done more with the kid with super powers. That would've been a hell of a movie if the kid was flying around and causing trouble and Superman had to do damage control.

I agree with Kevin, Im surprised Returns was greenlot, didnt anyone read the script to authorise it other than Singer? Superman stalks lois and the whole movie is him greaving that he lost Lois to another guy and she has his child. Downbeat, sad and negative. Thats what happens when you give someone like Singer too much trust. And the quality of the CGI was terrible. The suit? dont get me started! too plastic and action-figure looking. Routh was good though.

"Superman Returns" could have been an acceptable film if Superman had actually been fighting a villain and Lois Lane did not have a kid. Bryan Singer ruined it doing the story he did and that is why we are still waiting for another movie with the Man of Steel. I just hope the reboot gives me the Superman movie I have always wanted to see. It needs to be an origin story skipping the destruction of Krypton and the Kents finding baby Kal-El. Lex Luthor and Brainiac should be the villains.

@trentkill In recent superhero films, the character of the hero's secrect identity is just as important as the guy in the costume (if not more so) look at Iron Man, Batman Begins and Spider-man, those films were more about Tony Stark, Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker than the costumes they wore. Superman returns was a throwback to the silver age of comics where Clark Kent was a mere disguise.

I get what world he was trying to create and for that attempt, I salute him because Singer does have skill....but of all the Superheros Superman is the one character I'd rather not be sitting next to in GROUP THERAPY.. I'd much rather see him actually using all his superpowers to defeat a foe worthy of his time.

Be careful what you wish for. If all you care about is action, then in theory you would have no problem with Michael Bay directing Superman and giving him the "Transformers" treatment. I agree that Superman Returns needed more action, but I do NOT want to see a movie that's all action and no character development...but I'm worried that the message we're sending to Warner Brothers is that that's what we want.

One thing....in "Superman IV," Lois told Superman that she remembered everything about her and Superman, if not that Clark is Superman. Yeah, IV wasn't the greatest, but they did set that up. And based on other scenes in the film, it is obvious that she remembers being with him, otherwise she wouldn't be as upset with him as she was.
I didn't think Superman was "emo" either. He was upset about things, but it doesn't stop him from doing his calling like it did in in "Spider-wuss 2."

He made one mistake: in Superman 2 there was a scene of Lois and a depowered Clark in bed at the fortress of solitude. I believe that's where she got pregnant. But since they Assumedly had sex after he gave up his powers, why would his kid have powers? Superman Returns was indeed an abomination. A wasted opportunity.
