I have no problem with IED's because they're primarily used against military and military contractors. As dreaded and unfortunate an obstacle they are, I would put them on a par with landmines.

Yeah, the Soviet Union fell because they tried to conquer Afghanistan. The Russians fought for ten years and lost after spending all of their resources. Ahmad Shah Massoud was a diplomat, strategist, front line fighter, and the top commander of the collective fighters in Afghanistan. Of course, they had US backing but, it was limited mostly to intelligence and equipment. For political reasons you know, we couldn't actually have troops in the area... Watch the documentary on the 22 if you can.
