  • Beautiful layout, very well done.

  • Does he make the signals in N scale by chance?

  • @lowew79 Send hii an e-mail via his web site and ask him.

  • Very Nice Layout !!!

  • Superb!

  • where did you get all your trains

  • @TheBeatlesRock401

    Santa Claus.

  • One of the best layout vids on youtube!!!! The layout is awesome, models are awesome excellence all around.

  • HOW DID HE MAKE THAT?!?

  • @thebluetrain57 The signal, the layout or the video?

  • Beautifully detailed layout and trains! And cool Griswold signals!

  • Wow. I grew up with the Soo in Ladysmith WI, and can't get it out of my mind. Outstanding work!

  • Bob - Excellent job filming Mark's layout. I've seen it in person and you've certainly captured the spirit of it! Great Layout - Great Video

  • @heilichr Thanks. The steam loco sound is Soo Line 4-6-2 #2718 recorded on a 1955 fan trip. How often does your club have ops sessions? Do you have a track diagram and more ops info? Do you use cards or what?

  • Where did you find some of your telephone poles?

  • @LordoftheKaty You'll need to ask the modeler, Mark Preussler. His web site is:

    marksmodelrailroading com

  • I know mark is getting layout ready for the nmra convention this summer. I would like to see an updated video.

  • @Raylroad72

Since I'm 3 hours away from Mark, it will be up to him to let me know he wants an updated video done. I shot this last summer, so it should be close to what will be on the layout this summer.

  • Thanks for the reply. I really enjoyed the vid, Great sound!!!

  • @Raylroad72

The steam loco sound is actually a recording of Soo Line Pacific #2718 in 1955. 2718 is currently on display at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay.

  • Can somebody model the Soo Line accurately if they do not have any of the Green Bay & Western Box Cars and Hoppers on the tracks with the rest of the Soo Line freight cars? Would be too big of an omission to leave out the GB&W?

  • Mark's brother is a GBW modeler and has a GBW-themed layout.

  • Can it still be a realistic model of the Soo Line if there are no Green Bay & Western Box Cars or Hoppers?

  • I worked two summers in the Soo Yard in Stevens Point. I rarely saw GBW rolling stock in that yard among 1000+ other cars.

  • If I was modelling the same Era as this (I'm into Post-'61 Red/White) I think I would just give up now after seeing this... superb stuff!!

  • this was featured in model railroader magazine, right?

  • Correct...June, 2009 issue.

  • Correct(ion)...It was in the July 2009 MR.

  • i remember being impressed when i read the article

  • I see that you equipped the last heavyweight sleeping car with tail lights. Can you tell me which manufacturer does these lights?

By the way: Magnificent layout and cool video! Looks so real!

  • Great video

  • Yeah I had head phones on the sound is A+++ It sounds so real. Great lay out!

  • Oh dang,Mark's layout and your sound dubbing makes this video top notch!! 2:40 to 3:22 of Dale is my favorite scene! Keep up the great videos Bob! five stars from me!

  • WONDERFUL!, BEAUTIFUL!, FANTASTIC! Your little attentions to detail are GREAT! Your modeling has really warmed my heart on this Sunday morning. Thank you.

  • I agree, that's why I taped Mark's layout and posted it for the rest of you to see.

  • Those structures make Walthers Cornerstone built-up kits looks like a great idea.

  • Those Griswold Signals are what I like.

Put Griswold Signals in the tags, please.

  • What Scale?

Great video... Lets change the sound of the horn on the F3...

  • HO scale as stated in the "more info" section.

That was the only horn sound I had handy.

  • very good layout

  • Some day I hope that my layout will be as good as his.

  • Me too!

  • this video is taken in the same way I remember watching (as a kid) on PBS, when they ran a show called "Model Railroading Today" I believe the Kalmbach produced it, but the right angle, & hiding of anything no 'model' form was what hooked me to this hobby many many years ago. Kudos to the photographer here. :)

  • Thanks. It helps to have a small camcorder.

    Bob

  • Great layout. Anyone can learn something from it. Even those of us three rail modelers.

  • Awesome layout!!!

  • Cool nice layout
