You can also use a standard rca (red, white, and yellow) cable. Just make sure you use the same color at both ends. I'm sure everyone has a dvd player that uses those cables so getting one would be extremely easy.
Is the VHF/UHF Connection on the back of my TV the same as Coax? It just ordered a 2600 and I'm wondering if I have everything to connect it. The Atari comes with the RF switch. My 12 year old TV has composite, S-Video & VHF/UHF inputs. The VHF/UHF port is the one we use to use to connect the old Subscription Cable.
That's cool. I have two Atari 2600 consoles. One is a 6 switch model and the other one is a 4 switch model but it's not a Jr. My 4 switch model works just fine but my 6 switch model has a ripped video cable so I could't get it to work. Thanks for the video. Now I know there is a way I can fix my 6 switch Atari.
you wouldnt have had to mod the case if you just bought the same adapter but female rca so you just plug that into your tv instead of the atari board, then just use a coaxial cable, it would work for the JR aswell
I hate my atari 2600jr...I have the rf cable, but I can't get any image. Only static on every channel. I even tried RF silver thingies for the TV, nothing =/
I tried that but the phono (rca) plug only goes halfway into the jack on the atari (and colecovision) system and slips out when the console moves. Would it be possible to use a coaxial to rca cable (male coaxial on one end and a male rca on the other end)?
Isn't there a regular full length RF cable which you simply plug in the console and TV? I'm sure my ZX Spectrum cable would fit in the 2600. Maybe it's different for US...
I have a 2600A four switch model but you can't do it on them. The entire board is at an angle. This does not allow enough space for any other cable or adapter. If you look at the cable end that goes in the atari the prong is shorter than the other end. Alas I couldn't swap it out with another RCA cable.
Minor modification and it works, I did it on a 2600A with no problem. Just had to shorten the center prong a little, worked fine just like on the six switch model shown in my video.
It doesnt work for a four switch model. The top case doesnt close right because of the adapter. The rf cable that came with the system is damaged so I need to replace it .
Cool. I made a video with this information a while back. I just got another RF cable and put that in the Atari. Then I use a direct connect RCA Female to F Male Coax Adapter. Love the heavy shielding on that heavy sixer. Cool video.

@KissofDawn2012 Yes, it is the coax input. that your cable plugged into you can get a RF to coax convertor device really cheap at Radio Shack.

But its almost impossible to link it to a LCD TV, isn't it?
MrSpidahhh 1 month ago
@MrSpidahhh The process is the same, but the picture will be a little pixely due to the high resolution of the TV.

You don't need the switchbox to make this work?
SolidusSnake001 3 months ago
@SolidusSnake001 - Thats correct, no switchbox

You can also use Radio Shack part 278-276. Connect an RCA cable to your Atari, then the cable into the part, then the part into your coaxial input.

Is there any way to know if a 2600 is fried? I bought one recently and tried hooking it up, but there's absolutely no signal coming from it.

I have a heavy sixer where the connection is similar but really fused on there -- any suggestions how I can loosen it up?

Could you use this to replace it with a regular RF cable as opposed to a coax one? My TV dose not have a coax input.

or just use an nes adapter

awesome video. I never thought about doing that.

There are many cables that will plug in, the trick is to make sure they are shielded. if they are not, then the picture suffers.
