  • From where can i download this lovely game and how can i install it?

  • I loved how complex this game was, so complex I barely grasp it as a kid!!

  • This video was of great help to me in learning how to play this for a "let's play" video I wanted to do of it. Thanks :)

Too bad you're not posting any more though. This looks like it could have been a great series.

  • Back in the day, I was so stunned and hooked by this game, I really thought my bedroom was a Carrier and I was at war......

  • man i loved this game as a kid.. they should make remake or sequel of if with todays graphics and some improvements maybe like making the game bigger.. or put multiplayer in it... that would be so cool

  • Probably the best game ever made on any platform. I cannot believe someone got this to run on a 1986 Atari 520 ST. It is better than any game ever released on the SNES.

  • definitely one of the best st/amiga games

  • great game this, thanks for the review.

  • IDEA-GAMES is making a remake of this game. Check it out.

  • never did manage to destroy the enemy carrier, once i got close by ramming mantas as u say

  • i remember as a wee nippa a way to kill the enemy carrier in 15 mins. if you go to a netrual postistion in the middle of knowhere but near the nearest friendly island. wait till its attacked, go there, have 4 mantas equipped with long range communication and fly all 4 to the island attacked, find enemy carrier and use lazers while using the mantas as kamakaziees, zap zap zap explode, do it with all the mantas and you win. but never did it the long way, enemy repairs 2 fast and moves faster

  • You are a beautiful man, this game is amazing remeber playing when i was a lad. No Manual, learning as i went on! quality!

    Cheers for this!

  • You're one awesome dude, Nerdballoon1boon! I played this as a young kid and beat it. Back then I really found it to be an advanced game, much more than most other Atari games. What I would like to know is how did you record clips from Steem? I want to make videos of my own regarding Atari games.

And just in case anyone knows, could you tell me how to record clips from snes9x, the Super Nintendo emulator as well?

  • Also, there seems to be an old, built-in copy protection that freezes the game after a while, even though this is a Steem version. I remember this being present in the 'original' disk version. How did you get past this?

  • @BFCrusader

well in amiga you hold both mouse button down went game boots brings up a copy menu.

copy many as you want works also on the copys too

    hope this helps

  • @tinyural I'm sorry but I don't understand what you're saying. Can you clarify that?

  • I played this as a kid, and never understood what had to be done. Seeing it again now, I cannot believe how brilliant its gameplay is, not to mention its graphics for the time.

It made me even happier to read that there's currently a sequel in production!

  • Seriously dude.

    Great work!!!!

With the announcement of the remake, I wanted to find an example of the original which I used to play to death on the Atari ST.

Also, that music at the start and the end, I thought that was from Defender of the Crown... I may be going mad though

  • Amazing VideoGame, one of my first Amiga Game.

    From Italy,

    Morgan ICS

  • Superb game! One of the best on the Amiga in my opinion. Nice gameplay footage and commentary by the way. I hope you don't mind my video response. It's just the theme tune, which I absolutely love. I've just noticed someone has already posted the full length song, but I really like the first bit that was in the actual game, so there it is lol. Anyway, thanks for the nostalgia.

  • I had this game on my ST well i still do but its all hiding in the loft LoL but it was a cool game for its time

  • Thanks for the review and a fair reflection on what was a very realistic and detailed game, as someone else said, I too, at around 12 years old played this.

There were several ways to trap the enemy carrier out at sea if I recall(such as taking an island back after the enemy had just took it, the enemy carrier would come back at you!), and I think even the enemy carrier could run out of fuel too and instead of you auto winning, the game just continued.

    Love Carrier Command!

  • wow the gameplay looks amazing... even in this day and age.

  • Great review. Loved that game!!

  • Carrier Command = Upfront

One of the best game for its time, too bad most people didn't knew how to play it.

  • used to love playing this game, brings back memorys,it did take 5 to 7 hours to find the enemy ship thou.

  • Is there a Macintosh Version of this game?

  • there's a remake happening aparently..

  • Boohemia Interactive is making it. They supply most of the worlds military simulators... dont worry its in good hands, ignore the fmv and check the screens. let me know if you want em

  • Awesome review, Ben. When I was 10 or so, I had this a cracked version that I was fascinated by, but the game would always freeze after 5 mins and I never got to figure out how to play it. Finally, I get to see what the game was about!! I'll have to fire it up in Steem as well

  • All the steem versions I played bombed too after 5-10 minutes. Play the pc version, it doesn't have this problem.

  • @tosgem Ah yes, the freezing on cracked vesions was something I deliberately put into Carrier Command. Call it an "easter egg" for pirates. :-)

I might be releasing the source for Carrier some time soon, and you'll easily be able to see what I did.

  • In the ST version of this I have, the enemy, in strategy games, always goes about it the exact same way every time... Twilight - Arachnid - Obsidian - Sanctuary - Treasure - Taxhaven - Vatland, etc.

Is it so in your copy?

Whereas in the PC version it doesn't.

  • I have both versions, I checked the pc version I have and It's the same sequence. The PC version gives you a handy " Time Warp " button to speed up the gameplay... but for a price imo - the carrier has an engine sound that it hear whenever she's in motion ( so it's a little overkill )

  • *that you hear

  • @nerdballoon1boon We greatly improved the enemy carrier tactics for the PC version and then rolled these back into the 68000 code for the Mac release.
