@yonkersracing you do realize that even a 2 gear race in an auto LT1 is still 85mph right? thats the same as some other vehicles winding out 3 gears so whats really the difference? and also a 14 second 1/4 mile time is not slow, i will agree it isnt FAST but it is very respectable for a stock car. it was HOLY SHIT FAST when it was made, now we are used to more power in cars so its only respectable NOW.

@timmypstyle I was not speaking about a LT1 specifically with my 2 gear race comment, it was just a general statement for stop light to stop light races....to me they don't indicate much unless it is a true 1/4 mile. I have seen 11 second mustangs that can't beat a 13 second WRX on the street because of tire setup and length of the race itself...point is, not necessarily the faster car wins in a stop light to stop light race

I have an LT1 with 3.73's, CAI, flowmaster 3in outlaw series exhaust, shift-kit, 200lbs worth of weight reduction, and a good tune and i am running low 13s in the 1320 at about 103-105mph. Last time i took it to the track i made a total of 7 runs, and my fastest was a 13.380 my slowest was a 13.475, THAT is pretty consistant. And yes that bird in the video was an LT1, any idiot should be able to tell, ive never heard a 3.4 that sounds like that.

Make that a 6 speed car, even an LT1 and you wouldn't have caught up. I've ridden in and driven both auto and 6 speed LT1 and LS1 cars. 6 speed makes a big difference and the LS1 is faster than LT1 too.

ya a stick is not necessarily better for racing...it just robs more power usually from the motor to the trans...manual cars with the same setup as autos usually put down more horsepower at the wheels

yean but they dont shift as fast, dont care pro or not, and you have to shift more often. a stahl and a shift kit puts any auto WAY ahead of the 6 speed. I have seen 100 ls1's on the dyno 50/50 autos to sticks and they all put down 300-310 rwhp stock like i said mine was a auto but 6 speeds are more "fun"

LS1's are really the only car that happens on...most cars out of the factory don't come with good auto transmissions. A built auto could certainly put down the same power as a manual, but the majority of factory auto transmissions won't put down as much as a manual

Drag cars have autos because they are much more consistent, much easier to drive, more reliable, they launch faster and with less shock on the driveline. The 6 speeds have a way closer gear ratio and 2 extra gears, so as long as the driver can shift fast he should pull away. The problem is 95% of drivers, kid or adult, cannot drive a stick well at all. The 5 speed Mustangs are considerably faster than the auto mustangs.

Your stock LT1 Firebird does not trap 160 MPH in the 1320. A stock LT1 will trap roughly 100 MPH in the 1320...which is why 107 > 100 MPH...the Tiburon was a 107 MPH car
