This music first came to my notice way before

chanel 4 news. I heard it in a drama series from

Australia I think it was called "Power and Glory".

I am not sure can any one help?

Edit: This theme wasn't used from day 1. I have a video from somewhere of the 1st channel 4 news and it's different.

The current news theme came into effect sometime in 1983 so you are indeed correct.

ive heard that theme tune ever since i was born :)

i do like channel 4 news, it strikes me as the least biased, and definatly the least dumbed-down of all the tv news programmes

The theme is called Best Endeavours and is composed by Alan Hawkshaw. The original version of the theme was used from C4 News's launch in 1982 until 1996. It was re-recorded at that point, then again in 1999. The final re-record happened in 2004 and that version is still in use in 2008.

It's great music... Pale Rider, the Clint Eastwood remake of Shane (Western) used it as the theme... not sure which came first, but look up "Pale Rider" and you'll find it in that context.... fabulous stuff!

Absolutely love this music. Yeah. I find myself humming it while cycling to work. I'm not mental or anything, it's just really good :-)

i started to like this music when i first went to britain in 1997, then i came back in 1999 and again in 2006 and surpringly it was still the news intro for channel four. it reminds me of the country as well as of the good programms and documentaries they broadcast in channel four. it was my favorite channel there.

Probably the only UK broadcaster to have ahd the same theme for 25 years, the only change being a pitch change in the late 90's.

i love the music!! it reminds me a time when i lived in london and shared a flat in islington. channel 4 was my favorite. what memories!!!
