Shame about that bloody MTU at the front of the train though. Anyone know why it seemed to become standard practice at FGW to run trains with one Valenta power car and one MTU? Surely it would have been better to cascade two out and two in at the same time?
I think there's only a couple of Valenta-engined units left now, isn't there? I saw one operating in Cornwall a few weeks ago (sadly with MTU on the other end) and that was the first one I'd seen for at least 3 months
I saw this one in action today running the route from london to bristol temple meeds so it is still running

Yeah but it has now recieved it's MTU engine... When I took the video it was days before it went for conversion hence why it still has its Valenta...

I think FGW (and now GNER) run with Val
+MTU is because the vals are receiving little maintenance, so if the Val fails, the train can still run on the single MTU
