Oh and about the plate mail, yeah I don't see a single suit of plate mail in these clips. Plenty of chain mail. And the Muslim army has chain mail covered by studded leather armor.
Religion is dangerous people kill for their gods. True the Catholic church was notorious for killing people who didn't agree with them. However the Muslims are just as bad so don't try and play the sympathy game Louis. Or did you forget there is always a Jihad going on somewhere.
Nice video. Alot of comments here are wrong though. Muslims led the first religious war when the Moors invaded Spain and pushed all the way up to the south of France before being stoped. The first Crusader armies didnt have plate armor only mail not that it wasnt around yet but the fact that the cost was so great and the weight and heat of full plate was not a practical choice for war in the desert regions.
My only problem with these kinds of movies is that armor gets cut through like paper(otherwise I love them). In reality It has impossible to cut through plate mail unless you choked up on the blade of your sword and put all your weight in a place where the armor splits. Watch Reclaiming the blade, they explain it better
that depends.. ive never seen the beginning of this movie or really much of it so if this was, if i remember correctly, 1-3 crusade they wouldn't have plate. However after, i think plate was becomeing popular. i think it was invented around 14-15 century..
@icehawk1011 : In the 5th crusade, they wore plate allot more, but then, it was 2 European countries fighting each other then, and ddin't involve islamic forces that much.
@EdikShepherd : The romans did wear chainmail armour, quite often too, it was often sleeveless and came just below the knees, sometimes allot shorter, it was called a Hamata.
@Stukoke i agree and if you want movies to be historical correct discovery channel or such is a better source but during the crusades most people were wearing mail and that was specificly designed to block slashing attacks so maybe that's what myfaceisblue means by "armour gets cut through like paper" good vid btw ;)
this is one of my favorite movies, and my personal favorite Orlando bloom(Bloomin onion)(robot chicken for those who dont get it.) Movie. i dont like any other movie he is in, with the exception of the first pirates.
This video is awesome it even had my fave fight scene in it which is were balian fights the 3 Templars, one of my fave films ever brill song as well...Peace!!!
@JazzJaRa : Teutonic knights did exist in that time, they were known as the order of Saint Mary, they were formed in the 12th century in Acre, their job was often to guard and control the ports. I'm guessing that this film is set in the mid 11 hundreds when the Crusades were flowing like a river.
In history your right, the crusaders did not spare the Muslims in Jerusalem, I am sorry if my Video offended you but I only created it for inspiration of people who still try to be Knights.
How odd that you mention that "still try to be knights" thing, because I took a liking to that oath from Kingdom of Heaven and decided to take it myself.
@KingLouisXXI And Islam has ever been spread by the sword to lands previously Christian, so it was nothing more than much deserved payback. BTW, Saladin sold everyone in Jerusalem into slavery who couldn't pay a sizeable bribe/toll to be allowed to leave, so forget about get up on the soapbox to lecture us about abominable behavior by the Crusaders because Muslim hands aren't all that clean, either.
@KingLouisXXI yes,but muslims spared none in most of eastern europe aside from torture. That's how vlad the impaler came to be.He grew up seeing muslim violence. The crusades were actually called upon to help eastern europe but ended in the same violent treatment towards muslims as did muslims to christians. So there is no need to ignore the crimes of muslims which outweigh the crimes of crusaders. Both did evil.I forgive and forget, you still remember and call us evil for what happened in crusades
good job with the video...

Oh and as for Roman and Greek armor, do you realize how many open areas there were. I'd rather have chain mail than that trash.

When the muslims (turks) went to Europe, they did not spare anyone, but traitors.

This is during the crusades, plate armor wasn't been created yet, that wasn't for at least another 100 years or so.

Well, I'm pretty sure there was something similar to plate mail at that time. Look at Roman armor, it's not chain mail, that's for sure.

@tony1234872 I know they wore chain, I'm talking about Lorica Segmentata.
Would that not count as some form of plate armour?

@myfaceisblue Well Chain mail is designed for protection against slashing weapons like a Katana.. A broad sword can cut the chain mail...

TheCrusader89. They're Teutonic Knights mate, not Templars. Even though they are referred to as such in the film.
Apophisguard 3 years ago
And Teutonic Knights didn't excist in that time ;)
there are a lot of issues in that movie

@tony1234872
The Teutonic Order was founded in the year 1189. The movie plays in the year 1184.
So there aren't Teunonic Knights, and as you hear in the movie the three Knights are Templars.
