Daily comsumptions of caffeine (i.e. coffee, tea, cola, chocolate etc.) is substance abuse, and yes, it alters brain chemistry.

You eat or swallow LSD and amphetamines for certain effects. I don't get how this is "abuse." What are the "right" ways to use drugs in today's age? It became "abuse" about 40+ years ago when all the medical and regular legal uses were made ILLEGAL.

@whoo689 Sugar is a "drug," as well as an abusable "substance." Seriously though, cannabis is a pharmacological substance, but as stated in this news segment, "cannabis is the safest (psychoactive) drug in the world."

I agree, using any substance is freedom of choice, and I support, advocate and respect any individual's decision to use cannabis or whatever substance they wish as long as they do not directly harm another individual in the process and outcome of their actions.

On the issue of marijuana and motivation, the biggest factor is on what strain a person chooses to use. There's two main species of cannabis: Sativa and Indica. Indica has higher concentrations of the relaxant cannabinoids, while Sativa has these particular cannabinoids in smaller concentrations. Ingesting a pure Sativa strain will not keep a person on the couch, and they can function quit well under the influence even with surprisingly large amounts.
