  • My condolences

  • Very good story Marc, I would love for you to create more videos like this one, I have to say this is the best video I have ever seen (Or at least the one i enjoyed most) plus it was 4minutes which is nice =)

  • i just started smoking a pipe and i love it i only have a £15.00 pipe at the moment and i have only tried St Bruno and condor i so want to try some better ones in a better pipe but one step at a time i guess love your vids i have learnt a lot from you thank you keep up the good work .. Paul from London UK

  • You have my condolences.

  • thank you for sharing this, Mark!!!

  • Well, you sure turned out OK. 17 is too young an age to lose a parent, but it's tough at any age. My dad died 6 years ago, and I miss him. I can imagine how much worse it would have been if he had died when I needed him the most. Anyway, you're too big for a footballer! :)) Stay well, Mark.

  • Great video brother. I thank you for this.

  • if ur rich isnt that all u need to be succesfull in life

  • I am very sorry for your loss PipeFriend. My Father died last December 18th. While I was in the dam sky! Got a SatCom Call. Wasn't a good time to inform me but I stayed on my game and kept it safe for my Passengers and crew. I am blessed.

  • I've been extremely fortunate to have a wonderful father who is still around. Thanks to this video I'm reminded of how lucky I am.

Also, pipe community member SimonLeduc77 just lost his father. Here's the video where he discusses it: watch?v=MKgNWDkDcpI

  • you are lucky for having memories of your father . i haven't met my father , he died when i was 3 months old , i grew up seeing pictures of him and from what i've heard of he used to be a great pipe smoker

  • A sad but inspired story, dying with the girl you love. A bitter sweet memory for mom I'm sure. I hope I don't go alone, but I probably will, since I spend so much time on my own. I know I love my son but I also still get really upset with him. He is too much just like me. It is painful watching him make some of my same mistakes even though I try to tell him how to avoid many of them. thanks, gregg

  • Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, spouses/partners, these relationships are the eternal dance and sometimes we miss a step or two but in the end we are all glad to have had the chance:) That was a very touching story thank you for sharing it. As a mom myself I know I am guilty of projecting at times. I think its something I'll have to work on everyday as my son grows. At the end of the day I just want him to be the best him he can be. He makes me happy no money can buy that feeling.

  • he died dancing with your mom. i dont think i could think of a better way to go.

  • I am so sorry to hear that your father is not alive any more but I hope that the good members was some of the best that any Son could have of his Dad and I will have a Pipe for your dad as well.

    -Tim

  • Thanks for sharing this....so sorry for your loss. Nice to see more into your life...do you still have the computer your dad gave you? I would keep that forever....

    Ken =)

  • Thanks for sharing Mark. Enjoy your pipe and memories of your father.

  • Hi Marc

Sad story, as is life at times. I certainly know this from my experience. Thanks for sharing.

    Regards

    Mark

  • your Dad if he had an effect on your upbringing would be proud and I expect he was proud, its just hard for a lot of men to tell sons that,

  • Good video. Thanks for sharing.

  • Also, this was a powerful share. Thank you.

  • Ahhh, Marc. I EMPATHIZE so much. I could see in my father's eyes how he what he wanted over the years before he died from previous injuries. I EMPATHIZE.

  • Sorry for your loss. I don't have contact with my father. he skipped town on my birthday and changed his number. Sometimes i feel having a bad relationship with your dad is better than not knowing him at all

  • im sorry to hear that my friend.

  • that's a touching video, thanks for sharing.

  • Marc, such a remarkable story. My dad and I weren't close when I was young but we grew to understand each other and enjoyed each others company as adults. My Dad died 9 years ago on November 18 just a few weeks shy of his 92 birthday. His birthday is Dec. 15 and would have been 101 this year. No, I am not eighty... I'm 58. Dad was alot older than mom! I too was not the star athlete but the biology major who's been working in healthcare for the last 33 years. I think dad loved me just as much.

  • Thanks for sharing something so sensitive and close to your heart. Your kindness as a person is surpassed only by your inner strength. I'm glad to be a friend.

  • That's very sad, Mark.

Did you get into pipe smoking because of your dad? My grandfather used to smoke pipes, but passed away while I was still very young. I was always very interested in his pipes, so my grandmother promised to give me one once I turned 18. That's what actually got me into pipe-smoking, although I'm yet to dare smoke his pipe. I'm afraid I'd ruin it.

  • @VerboseVindication Growing up with it I am sure had an influence. Thanks for your kind words

  • Sorry for your loss. I lost my mom at 22 and all I can say is 'Father Time' has a way of blunting the pain but as long as they exist in our memories they will live on!

  • Thanks for sharing this.

  • Tough situation, will have a pipe for you and your dad. Take care

  • I'm sorry Mark, that's a terrible way to receive such news.

My wife's father passed away exactly 19 years ago, Dec. 19th... I wish I could have meet him and embracing him for raising such a great girl. She was roughly the same age you were when it happened.

I'm sure your father would be very proud about the man you are. I'm also sure you'll soon meet someone who will wish to have met your dad for the same reasons I wish to have met Dina's dad.

    Merry Christmas,

    G.

  • Wow, what a horrible way to find out like that.

  • We can always accept and never forget! Well done.

  • I'm lighting up a pipe for both our dads right now. Wolfeman

  • @pipefriendchs that's awesome! Btw i've seen a few videos in which you had on an sc hat. I'm in columbia, are you anywhere near there? I' like to get into pipe smoking, but I don't know any pipe shops around here.

  • @benjiak95 Charleston, there is a pipe/tobacco store at Harbison in Cola

  • Good advice. I'm sorry you had to go through those horrible events as a child. Thanks for sharing your story.

  • The next bowl I burn I'll dedicate to ur dad!

  • Thanks, Marc for sharing. Sorry to hear you lost your dad at an early age. Makes me think a little harder about how I treat my kids. I try to be a better dad than my dad in some ways. Thanks, Scott

  • cool dude .. Sorry to hear about that but it was more positive than neg. Which is important ..

even though i just smoked a bowl.. I'd be happy to light up a pipe of some 'solitude' blend ..perhaps even reflect on my own dad .. ( still alive though ) .. Thnx for talking

  • its a rough one, so you are a mathlete not an athlete? that's okay too. good memories thougg

  • @GTFiorano No i was not good at math, just really good with languages and anything related to communication

  • @PipeFriendCHS Which is why I didn't realize you were Dutch till you said so.

  • All the best and good advice.

  • It's never easy when we loose a loved one, no matter how strained the relationship was. Enjoy your pipe and your memories.

  • My best to you.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • Thanks for sharing that. It's a nice way to a remember your dad over a pipe. I'm sure he was proud of you. I'm a father and I always try to be mindful of letting my son take his own path and follow his own dreams. I help coach hockey and have seen some parents who take it to extremes in the other direction.

  • I am sorry about what happened PipeFriend! Ha I wish I could say more but I do not know what to say. But I can say that all of us people on the pipe community on youtube care about you! And all the friends you have on here, that is quite a lot of wealth!

  • @pipefriendchs what type of work do you do?

  • @benjiak95 I manage a team of IT consultants

  • @PipeFriendCHS thats my dream job, when i grow up i want to be an IT or something that includes computers

also sorry for your dad, im looking to collect pipes, not smoke them (im only 11)

but i think pipes are interesting

  • Thinking of you and your dad today. It was a year ago today that I lost my mom to cancer. There really aren't enough words to explain how important parents are.

    -Travis

  • @thechemwiz She died on Dec 19th just like my dad?

  • @PipeFriendCHS Yes, one year ago. It's been a rough year.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your father. I lost my father a while back. He is still one of the living, but his actions were so self centered that I believe he is now permanently out of my life. He was never really active in my life, he would go months without talking to me, and when I would call he would talk for about 5 min's then have to go cause he was busy. Ahh well, can't change some things. I hope you have a good rest of the day.

  • I try the best for my boys. I had quite the overbearing father, so I suppose I can relate in some way. We get along sooo much better now that I'm in my late 30's. I can not say how painful it would be to lose him, and I can see that even after 25 years, it isn't the easiest thing for you to remember experiencing. Thank you for sharing. I hope it helps you to have done so.

  • Rough topic. Lost my dad 4 yrs ago on Easter, he wanted a plumber and got a nerd. That's life I guess. Best wishes, man.

  • As a father I want the best for my kids, and sometimes it does take a lot to remember that they are not me, nor will they ever be. I love them as best I can, and get them what they need. I can only hope my daughters want me to walk them down the aisle when and if the time were to ever come.

  • Great advice. A sad story, but good memories.

  • Yes! I am first! I love your videos!
