hi, I attended PBCS in the 1970s, then my family moved. I recently passed through the Port Byron area. Why did they build a new high school? the old one was more beautiful.
I graduated in 1979 and not too long after that there was a big pushe promoting everything on one campus. To justify they put out claims of asbestos and other bull about the building not being suffiecient and made the building of the new school possible. Now ithe old school is used for a salvage dealer and low income housing, what a shame. Tne taxes on the new school is more than the people can handle and driving the area down.
Thanks for the information. Yeah, it doesn't make sense that asbestos was a big problem, especially if people are living there now. I drove past the little school (AA Gates) last fall when I was in NY state, and I saw that they partially boarded the windows. I feel sorry for the kids. I know it is airconditioined now, but those large windows let the natural light in. Anyway, I enjoyed my early years in PB very much. It was a very nice place for a kid.
