That poor girl in Peru would still be alive had they given Van Der Sloot the death penalty after he murdered Natalie.

Personally I'm not in totally agreement with an eye for an eye... this ethos is an american one... I also don't agrre with the whole theatrical manner in which you kill criminals... I believe that a much better alternative would be for the victims families to decide whether or not they would prefer the criminal to die or be kept in prison for ever.....
I don't think that anyone has the right to choose someone else's death. Someone who murders someone is not right and they should be punished but not by means of death. If you are of authority and kill a innocent man how would you live with yourself? You have to realize you have a good chance of murdering someone who shouldn't be murdered. Also, two wrongs don't make a right.
How would you deal with them then? Put them in prison? Isn't that depriving them of their freedonm and therefor a 'wrong?' Not only that, what would you when they kill behind bars or pass word to commit murder to their pals on the street?

For all those who are anti-death penalty I understand the concept of perpetual killing with an eye for an eye. It looks good on paper, but if someone were to rape and murder your mother I think the situation would be different. I personally would not think twice about killing my mother's murderer.
