Steve doesn't like Google because Steve sees Google as a real threat.
Google has won a contract this past Dec to provide the City of Los Angeles' 34,000 employees a platform to use Gmail, Google Docs and other Google Apps for their messaging and collaboration needs. It's a three-year cloud computing contract, valued at $7.25 million and is saving the city millions on server maintenance.
@Egide0 I really really really want to see, what Steve Ballmer will do, if Google win. And I hope someone is around at that moment with a video camera or a phone, so it can be recorded and put on Youtube. He is well known for loosing his temper and throwing things around in anger and threatening people, and he HATES Google.
@CornishRicky Is it a secret that both MS and Google want to be the emperor of the world?
I do not like the idea of one company to rule the world, but Google votes for Open Source which is for everyone to gain from, while MS is solely for themselves. They do not care shit about others, and they are quite familiar with breaking the law.
Steve Balmer hates Google, because he has not found a way yet to crush them (like with Netscape). I do not like that man, nor the company.
@ytvoice1 The browser might be open source, but google isnt. For example you dont know whats going on behind the surface. wether they make a file listing all the politically incorrect comments you ever made on youtube and send it to the future communist government so they can pick put you in a concentration camp.
And for sure you know that gmails terms of use dont rule out that your emails are never ever ever going to be deleted.
@CornishRicky Google COULD be a threat to MS on the OS market. I wonder what will happen, if people get to know there are quite good alernatives to Windows.
I do not want MS to loose completely, just not having 99.99% market share of the PC OS. Maybe 40% would be better. MS are not good when they are controlling. They have to be controlled very hard.
Look what happened, when they won over Netscape. They completely stopped anyone from any innovation in webdesign because of IE6.
@ytvoice1 It is not because of Microsoft that we have CSS3 and HTML5. They didn't like the idea at all from the beginning, and they worked to make it fail in any way they could. Luckily they did not succeed.
And those standars are thanks to Google, Apple and Mozilla. They want to innovate, not MS.
It was exactly the opposite for me. I bought and installed Vista when it first came out and was quite disappointed, so about a month later I gave GNU/Linux a try and haven't looked back since.
They didn't "cancel" longhorn. It's just a codename, like Windows XP was codenaped "Whistler". Noone should have expected "longhorn" to keep it's name.
Sorry I wasn't clear on that one. They cancelled the original Longhorn project due to several "issues" they found. Then they ordered a reset and had to restart from Windows Server 2003. In doing so, several features were lost. So now we have Vista.
Same deal for Windows 7 (originally codename "Blackcomb", then "Vienna")
Windows 7 was going to originally have a slimmed down kernel (and was actually going to be Windows NT 7.0), but they decided to keep all that bloat.
Man Windows is an 100 year old house. Except that its almost 30 years old (lets say :D) and it has many renovations done to it. One day someone will realise that all the renovations done are not designed efficiently and will realise that the cost to renovate will outweigh the cost to build a new house.. so he knocks down the old house and builds a new house.
wtf man.. Linux is like adding sugar to coffee.. even if you add too much, you still enjoy it.. I have devoted my time to linux for about 2 weeks to know the nitty-gritty.. i am not 6 months away from that and I absolutely am not going back to Windows.. I can't believe how awesome linux is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's my saviour.. if it werent for linux, I would have lost a major contract and in turn, would have lost my house.. no bullshit. Thank you all that contribute to Ubuntu.. THANK YOU!!!!
Bullshit. All you Windows fanboys jumping in on every fucking video with a derogatory comment on Apple's platforms, then if a Mac user retaliates it's... it's like pushing someone down, then laughing to your friends when he gets up and kicks your arse.
Anyway... Windows Vista can go die in a fire. No Windows release since 95 has ever had the upper hand over the Apple integrated hardware and software platform. It's common knowledge a mixed bag will achieve mixed results. Same goes for computers.
I allways taught people to make a list of demands then based on those demands purchase a system and software to work with. I don't work with windows or mac i do word processing and photo editing and whatever gets my work done. And any and all fanboys droning on about their own systems are idiots when it comes down to buying a system based on their personal demands. Your demands might not be mine. And fancy interfaces like ubuntu beryl or vista aero don't get my work done.
its funny because Beryl is exactly what has saved my productivity. Beryl wasnt designed to just be eye candy. It is an accessibility tool, a external helper for applications, a window manager in itself and also a slice of nice intuitive entertainment whilst working. The problem with linux and uptake is the fact that people dont understand it. And i think linux developers want to keep it this way so elite linux users use linux, not some complaining n00bs.
So what is it that you demand of a system?? You say "productivity". Then how is it that linux gave you that?? Intuitivity you say. What are your demands of a system? You've got a software company? You do administration? You use computers for CAD/CAM? You render?
Based on demands one buys/installs an operating system. Based on the dollar! There are no fanboys in the industry.
I am a system administrator. And thus i've worked with almost any OS. Do i have favorites??? No..... It all comes down to what job you need done. Or else go buy a playstation.
AgentCROCODILE: I'm totally with you. I don't understand the constant need people have to upgrade their operating systems. An operating system should be 100% invisible, and lose itself in the installed apps.
However... thanks to Apple, and their propaganda machine, people think they need an OS upgrade every year.
Microsoft did EXACTLY what it should have done by keeping XP for six years.
An operating system that needs yearly overhauls ISN'T a good OS, regardless of what Justin Long says.
It's amazing that despite the major platform changes, Apple still keeps the 10.X thing. Shouldn't they switch to 11.x already?! I mean, Microsoft is doing the sensible thing by going from Windows NT 5.X to Windows NT 6.0 (the internal version numbers)
Because of all this upgrade nonsense, I am building my own operating system (for IA-64)
That way I can "upgrade" whenever I want to whatever I want.
I also don't like them introducing stupid new "user interfaces" into every single application AND forcing users to use it. Ribbon is a stupid screen-hogging interface.
And in Windows 7, it will appear in Notepad, Paint, Wordpad, etc and other utilities!
"And in Windows 7, it will appear in Notepad, Paint, Wordpad, etc and other utilities!"
That actually is a problem. I (honestly) use notepad for all my word processing needs, because I don't care about font sizes/types, and I know how to spell.
