Just remind people that when Leica started their own Digital camera, they have used Panasonic sensor. But the big difference is the lens. Leica lens is handmade and much much better than Panasonic.
It doesnt make any difference since Panasonic uses Leica lenses for their camera. And infact, the d-lux 3, just as the newer d-lux 4 is made in japan by panasonic, then finished and checked by leica in Germany (thats why its still labeled "made in Germany") which is the reason why it's so much more expensive than the SAME lumix camera by panasonic.
except that leicas rangefinders and slr's are their only really stellar cameras; panasonic has equivalents of all their compact digitals, even using the same leica lenses...so a leica compact is a way over-priced panasonic
Thank you for you time for the explaination. You know what, even though it is almost same as Panasonic`s one, I wanna spend more money to buy Leica`s one cause it is much better looking. I knew "Leica" whene I was little, but I had never paid attention cause I thought I would never be able to buy one. Even though Japanese companies make great products, I still wanna buy the products made by European companies. They make much better looking products.
It is made in the same factory that Panasonic make their LX2 model, in Japan. It has the same lens and sensor. And from what people are saying on all the forums the software is virtually identical. So to say "The Leica is the the superior one, obviously." is a bit misleading. They are exactly the same camera. The Leica just looks the coolest :-)
Yea, i am now aware of that. The leica is the best looking but ive done my research and they are practically the same. At first i was thinking that since this is a leica camera maybe the lense might be stronger in texture but they both have the elmarit which delivers great results on both and responds well to some details in shadow but ill probably get the panasonic. Its just as nice. lol appreciate the response though.
The difference is the quality control, the warranty, and the RAW/Jpeg processing. The Leica is better on all aspects. YES they are made in the same place...but so are Toyotas and Lexus :) There's a great blog out there where a guy has both cameras and you can see the difference in side-by-side photos. Panasonic is great for people that can't afford the Leica though.
In contrast to what i said 3 months ago, both cameras are twins but you just pay for the metal body and the famous red dot. But, If im gonna get a leica, im not going to dick around with a camera like this. Ill just go straight for the M series to experience it all.
camera is awesome but only produces good crisp results with ISO 100 in good lighting, or with diffused flash. Otherwise images can be noisy. Other than that, its cool cuz it can shoot in 16:9 pano type mode and RAW mode of course for "ze best image qwality awaylable on ze market"

Is the camera same as Panasonic Lumix LX2K ?
That`s what I heard. If it is completly different, I want one so bad. But, they look same.

close in resemblance but different in texture and resolution. The leica is the superior one, obviously.
