I really connected with the visuals and sounds of struggle we go through as a people in this video. Fucking beautiful song man. Almost Louvre worthy, it's that much of a masterpiece to me.
i agree with eighter8er sick jacken ripped it real. hip hop is underground, pop get the radio play. 2 sides 2 every story way better than kanyes piece of shit, but i got to give it to mos, still sick jacken is the shit. psycho realm for life
kanye was never a hip hop artist per se. Remember he's primarly a producer. This track is his strongest hip hop joint. (Its the freakin' sheeit!)Speaking in broad terms he is categorized as hip hop, as rockafella is a hip hop label. I don't think Kanye cares for specific categorization of his music, he is a music artist.
Actually, Kanye has said he wants to be known as a hip-hop artist more than a producer. From what I've read about him and seen of him, he doesn't like being thought of as just a producer.
aight for all you cocksuckers who dont think game did a track over this beat its THE GAME-THROWIN ROCKS AT THE THRONE ,type that in and it should come up its bad as fuck
Surprised this only has 160,000 views. This isn't just a great song overall, Kanye and Mos Def's verses would have been some of their best on their own. And fuckin love lockdown gets more than this a day, what has Kanye/his fans come to?
listen to the album 808s and heartbreak than you'll know. all he's doing is stepping up his game. not doing the same thing over and over, not that the old kanye is bad.
I'm with you that it isn't just the same shit like most other rappers out today (lil wayne espescially), but it seems like he isn't just making it different, he's forgetting where he came from. He's just getting all emotional about his own life, not about poverty or blood diamonds like he used to. And then he just puts auto-tune over everything.
let's be real, the man lost his mom and fiance in the same year and continued to tour and make music....he had to get it out some how. With his list of tracks he has earned the right to be creative and go out side the box. I still support him because this video right here is the heart of Mr. West, you can't learn this in a class. His eminent spirit is there..that can't disappear!
he didnt 4get bout where he came from he jus took a detour cuz he is making a hip hop album in 09 called a good ass job nd it goes wit his past albums like after graduating u get a good ass job so he didnt jus drop his old style.. nd i agree wit iwonder66 he did step his game up cuz if u can have all the respect kanye has from his other albums come out wit a pop album still make money off it nd work on a hip hop album ur a great artist
I'm seeing alot of comments about freeway on this song. The attention should be focused on mos def. not only was his verse by far the best on this song, its one of the best verses i ever heard. Just listen to the words.
Kanye Is the only real force in hip hop right now... Come on.. maybe his head is big.... but most cant help it when your big as he is... Come on now he is up there with Dre or even past Dre when it comes to music styles he has down... Everyone loves kanyes music Everyone... so it makes him pop weather u like it or not... even if he tried to become underground it would not work
First off you can't compare Dre and Kanye. They're not on the same page i hip hop. Dre was a rebelious rapper, a pioneer of hip hop. Kanye is a little commercialized bitch now and sadly that's all he can be now. I agree that he can't go undeground now. He used to be good when he was underground but once you hit it big there is no turning back. As for real forces of hip hop out there: Mos Def, Immortal Technique, Atmosphere. They're not powerhouses but they stay true to the art
Wow what a hater... ok lets sum up dre NWA's hot, 1 hot album the chonic... Death Row days was Daz and a slew of others producers... Pac said it best " this nigga has not worked in years! and gets credit for other work " Hence why it takes for ever for a album to come out.. 2.nd Dre has had the same 90's sound and name me a cut he has done in the last 3 years that matter? Not one.... Ok kanye has produce and done more work than dre career Just the Facts homie.laaaaa la la laaaa. Hater!
Anybody can produce and create shit today. You just need some stupid little program like garage band and you can make shit that sounds legit. Dre produced shit that was truly original. Nobody had done what dre did. All kanye does is sample everyone else's shit anyway. Oh and by the way, if you're arguing that kanye puts out more shit and you wanna call that a "fact" it's not about quantity dude, it's about QUALITY!
You think it's so easy to sample records? I'd like to see you or anyone else who says all Kanye does is sample, produce the calibur of artistry Kanye does. You have to be insanely diverse in music and incredibly gifted in your craft to not only sample a song, but the right song at the right parts. Some of the most unlikely songs have been made into incredible tracks by him. Yes, Dre is an amazing producer, but he has a different style and he has sampled too. There is nothing wrong when done rite
You know what man? You're right. Sampling is pretty tough. I've seen tracks being sampled and it takes hella long but to measure skill on how much shit you put out is stupid. Kanye is good but his music has lost significance since he hit it big. I can't relate. He just boasts and defends himself constintly. He's lost that hunger for real music. And yes dre is badass but i'm glad he stopped lol
Now that is where I can sorta agree. He's not the same Kanye, but how can you stay the same when your life changes the way he has. He gone through many experiences since coming out so it will affect his music. I think he defends himself so much because he wants so bad to be taken seriously and he wants people to recognize the amount of dedication he has. When he goes in the studio, he puts 100 percent in it so I think it hurts when people don't give him his props. He's too passionate sometimes.
fantastic song...I wasn't happy that freeway was on it because I don't think he's on the level of Kanye or Mos, but it's still classic. I would've put on Talib or Common instead of Free for sure.
And I wish Kanye would go back to spitting fire like this instead of his new autotuner CRAP!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if anything kanye is not on the same level a freeway at all. i have to say that mos is on top of this track but kanye comes in last.....he can't rap. anybody can tell a story. but most his stories are not his.
Kanye is sold out, he went from rappin about something real to how much shit he has cuza money. It's straight to do that once in a while, but hell Mos Def is rich too, but he still talks about something deep thru his music. I'm from Chicago and I say Kanye's sold out if that means anything, but still even tho Kanye sold out it doesn't mean I don't like some of his music heh heh. It's still hip hop...just not as real.

His last album especially had little to nothing to do about boasting how rich he is I mean I'll give you goodlife and maybe barry bonds but besides those he is still talking about real shit in the industry and normal life. Now he has gone to singing I actually like it cause it has meaning i can relate to but I do prefer him rapping.
i totally agree with ya...i mean flashing lights nd homecoming are really good examples of him rappin bout serious issues but ma favorite has to be bittersweet poetry; talks really sympathetically bout bein in a difficult but important relationship
mos made his money of movies not rap so its kinda easier for him but i agree ever since he went up against 50 he turned into a bitch with autotune shit
this shit really really put me in a trance like i felt the imagery with the words that was the best ppl..the best video sice a long motherfucking time...no lets me put so input to your comments..OK we all know the rules of the game when you go major and when your independent and when your an underground rapper...OK, lets flash back Kanye was at the verge of independent and..UNDERGROUND!!
why are all these people saying kanye's sold out? just cause his songs gone mainstream doesn'mean he's lost his skills..it just means alot of people now appreciate hip hop...history will remember kanye as one of the artists who kept hiphop alive
mos def and freeway both killed it, kanye was okay, but nowadays he sold out, that may hurt a lot of his fans here, but now he lost his way, he just talking about money, girls, cars. MOS DEF THE ILLEST
Mos killed it like always...im sorry but lets keep it real kanye sold out...not on this track cuz this was wen he was still real...but now?lets be real
I used to love this song, but now the sound of Kanye makes me cringe because of how fucking egomaniacal he is. All rappers have to be high on themselves, but charging stages at awads shows and coming off like a huge douchebag in interviews is just too much.
gr8 track, not a kanye supporter either(Mos Def can do NO wrong!)but he brought his game up a bit ,freeway went in good, could listen2 Mos D, ALL fuxxing day,!xx
who produced the trak, i think i've heard psyco realm also use the beat in a freestyle, ill bill also. i jus hav to know who produced the trak...guessin it wud hav to be kanye rite?

I used to love this song, but now the sound of Kanye makes me cringe because of how fucking egomaniacal he is. All rappers have to be high on themselves, but charging stages at awads shows and coming off like a huge douchebag in interviews is just too much.

thelazygamer 3 years ago
Yeah no doubt, now it just seems he's making music to win awards instead of just to make music that he loves
