Why do they not bring this show back? (The "Mystery Guest" thing, that is...) Everybody, but EVERYBODY would tune in...This is WAY too funny!! (Are you listening, NBC?... CBS?... ABC?... FOX?...It would be a major windfall for whatever network has the courage to do it.) Thanks - -
@ClarasBeau I'd like to think a show like this could be successful but I do have to wonder. Who is out there to fill the chairs of this original group? There certainly aren't many celebrities alive who have enough class or dignity to pull this off. Sad, isn't it?
Would someone please re-upload the episode of What's My Line? where Bill Cullen (by himself) is the Mystery Guest? I have looked and looked for it. Please notify me at sbutler0727@yahoo.com when you have done so. Thanks a bunch.
Blending these 2 shows and here is what you've got; What's My Line 18 seasons 5 times top 25 Nielsens and 3 Emmys. I've Got A Secret 15 seasons 9 times top 25. All were in prime time. They knew what they were doing.
Bill Cullen's physical condition made it very uncomfortable to stand for long periods of time. That's why he had to pass on the 1972 revival of TPIR. The MC was/is required to stand during the whole program. That would have been difficult for Cullen. Not so much for Bob Barker.
This is one of the few times that Bill Cullen was shown walking on-camera; the reason for this is because he had a slight limp as a result of a bout with polio in childhood.
That's a sad reminder of a different era, but here's a happier one: Don't you love those hats on Faye Emerson and Jayne Meadows?
Jayne is the only one of this clip still alive at this writing (18 Oct 2009), having recently celebrated her 89th birthday. What a beautiful treasure she is to the golden age of television!
Henry Morgan was an often caustic radio host who infuriated his sponsors. Harry (Henry) Morgan was the actor on "M*A*S*H" and on "Dragnet." Alan Reed, Sr. was the voice of Fred Flintstone.
Hi I don't know why ppl are gving frankydman thumbs down. He is right - Harry Morgan (from MASH) was billed as Henry Morgan in his early career until he had to change it to Harry Morgan. Simple Hollywood fact.
Six months after this episode, Bill Cullen would launch an American institution for NBC (at the time) at the Hudson Theater off Times Square. (What ever became of that show? - THE PRICE IS RIGHT!)
Another thing: Bess Myerson (who ultimately replaced Jayne Meadows on the "IGAS" panel) never appeared on "WML?" at any time in the CBS/John Daly era, but was a mystery guest on the syndicated version in 1973 during Larry Blyden's hosting stint.
Thanx for posting a WML clip with Victor Borge. His comic talent tended to obscure his considerable talent as a concert pianist. Borge was one of the 3 - 4 greatest WML guest panelists ever. In this episode, he seems intimidated cold, but remember he is one of the first replacements for the late Fred Allen. That would be intimidating for anyone. The producers were close to panic at this point: they hired as the 1st guest panelists Garry Moore, Borge, Johnny Carson, and Robert Q. Lewis.
Thanks for the Victor Borge insight! I had no idea who he was but gosh, he makes this one of the funniest WML eppisodes. "Who am I looking at now?" haha never would have guessed he was a pianist!
This is one of 2 maybe 3 Bill Cullen WML appearances. He and Daly were two grandmaster game show moderators of that period. No matter how complex the rules, Cullen could keep any game show clear, funny, interesting; he had good rapor with contestants, too. I remember Cullen hosting the first Price Is Right. Now We tend to think Bob Barker WAS The Price Is Right, but Cullen performed in the same league. I don't like IGAS as well as WML (go figure); but Cullen is the main reason to watch it now.

Gave 5 stars although one of the more boring episodes for a mystery guest.

What was the difference between What's My Line and I've Got a Secret?
BornYesterday0126 3 years ago
What's My Line was for the panel to guess peoples professions (or guessing the mystery celbrity)
I've Got A Secret was the panel obvioulsy guessing something that happend to or something about a person or people

@BornYesterday0126 Absolutely nothing. And yet, "What's my Line," was so much better!
