@5h4d0wdr34m5 - Search their website using Keywords --> Product Data Sheet and note what you don't find. Now to to virtually any other oil companies website and do the same. Take note of what you *do* find. That might answer your question.
@newgun2000 I guess some of them might be. I'm not. I've used Amsoil for over 20 years, and have had several vehicles over 200k miles. I currently have a 2000 Neon with 219,000 miles and it still runs ok. I'm here to support the folks who want to try Amsoil but if someone likes Redline, Mobil1 or whatever I don't really have a problem with that.
I just tell people to use the correct type of oil in there cars and change it when the car maker says it should be change. All oils are pretty good and I used alot of no name oil in my oil prelude about 330k on it before I retired it. You can use more expensive oil, but if it give no real benefit then why pay more? But I have heard some crazy claims and being a tech for many years if I sounds too good to be true it most like is not true , But if you like amsoil good luck and have a good drive :)
@newgun2000 - AMSOIL synthetic motor oils save me over $300 a year in reduced maintenance costs and improved fuel economy. I can't afford to toss out $300 and that's why I and thousands upon thousands of people use AMSOIL. How much did you spend for each oil change over that 330,000 miles and how often did you change it?
@newgun2000 - "Cult members"? Sounds like you're referring to sports team fans rather than people who rely on scientific test data about an oil like AMSOIL. :)
Thanks for the tests and giving me even another reason to keep buying MOBIL 1. Mobil 1 was in the top 3 or better in all your test and for that reason I will continue to buy MOBIL 1 because you can buy it anywhere and cost less the AMSOIL. If I were driving an F1 car or something $300k or more I might would consider Amsoil, but I dont, so I want. I love Mobil 1.
@jeepbme - I'm glad you're pleased with Mobil 1. However, your assumptions about price are inaccurate. I just did a search on Google for Mobile 1. The first link was to Amazon for a 6 pack of 5w-30 for $48.99. If you check my site, Amsoil has 3 options for a 6 pack that go from $60.90, $45.90, and $36.60. For $10.00, you can become a Preferred Customer for a year and buy the the same 6packs for $47.10, $35.10, or $28.20. So 5 out of the 6 Amsoil options are in fact less expensive.
@bigstinky789 Well, the price I paid is $25 for 5 quarts of 5w30 at Walmart and $8 for a Mobil1 filter at Advance. It took all of 5 minutes to purchase considering I was there buying groceries already. There was no days of waiting for it to get shipped to my house, I simply went home put away my groceries and changed my oil all in the same day.
@jeepbme - Mobil 1 is a very good synthetic oil and I'd personally rank it second to AMSOIL, the pioneering industry leader. I save a lot of money using AMSOIL instead though. In this economy, money is very tight and I couldn't afford to spend more and get less in return.
My 2000 Neon with Amsoil now has 218,000 miles on it, and I still drive it very day. Drives normally. The only real work is bodywork (it's killed 4 deer when we lived in the country my wife kept running over them), and a timing chain PM at 118k.
@Facewest , it's hard to decipher the difference between GTX and Syntec. From what I can tell, GTX is the standard Castrol synthetic blend, and Syntec is specially formulated for short trips. I'm not sure how much different it is. I think one key to note is that both are called "blends" by Castrol, which I take to mean that they are not full synthetics. I always have liked Castrol, though, and think it's a good oil. I have run it in vehicles in the past. For a FREE Amsoil catalog visit my site.
@FeelFree3 , There is one Amsoil Dealer I know of in Australia, and they ship all over Australia. I've traded email with them. Their address is 127A Lonsdale Street,Dandenong Victoria 3175
There are also more international Amsoil Dealers listed on the mail Amsoil website
@lilydalebunny Lilydale; I'm not trying to drag this out either, and I'm ok with you using all the M1 you want. I'm trying to correct inaccurate statements. To answer your question, NO, you do not have to "become a member" to buy Amsoil, and the price I quoted is the straight retail price, just go look it up online. Your original post claimed 70.00 for Amsoil and 40.00 for M1, and now you're down to 40.50 for Amsoil and somehow your M1 even got cheaper at 35.00. The Amsoil would only be 30.50
@lilydalebunny Ok, for the rest of the readers out there, don't go to the PartSource store in lilydale's neighborhood. you can just go to amsoil, or my website syntheticoilhq and buy it for 6.10 retail for the OE fully synthetic. I can't explain what the PartSource store in lilydale's neighborhood is doing, but you can't use that example to pretend it's accurate Amsoil pricing.
I have to clarify the pricing. lilydalebunny I don't know where you get your pricing but a quick check of O'reilly's shows Mobile 1 is $8.49 to $8.89 a quart. Amsoil is retail $6.10 for the OE, to $10.55 for the top line Signature Series. On top of that, you can get about a 20% discount as a Preferred Customer for $10.00 for 6 months. So your pricing is way off. Anyone who wants to check can go to my website at syntheticoilhq or email for free catalog.
"Both are great oils, but convenience is key to some people. "
In your opinion...............no offense.......lol, Amsoil is "Superior" oil..... Mobil 1 Pennsoil etc....are "great". I test this Amsoil, and it does not break down peroid! Jeep, GMC, OLDS, all my cars, trucks do very well with this Amsoil in the Motor and tranny........The Jeep has 22k on it and never quits!
Amsoil is not a pain in the ass to get. I can name four store that carry it and can order online. No big deal. It is worth the cost and like anything, if you want it bad enough, if won't be an issue for you to get
And the average driver won't be able to tell the difference in the two. However, Amsoil is a pain in the ass to get and I can walk into most stores and pick up Mobil 1. Both are great oils, but convenience is key to some people.
@dadsbabypu - A savings difference of $150 - $200 per year is measurable and most people I know do indeed notice the AMSOIL provided savings. AMSOIL is easier to get than any other oils, as it is delivered right to your door while you sit in the comfort of your home doing better things than battling traffic, burning up money in expensive gas, standing in lines, dealing with uncaring/rude salesclerks who could care less what you buy or not. AMSOIL is much more convenient to obtain. :)
@HiTechOilCo True amsoil is much more convenient. When my car has around 200 miles left in till I need to change the oil I order a gallon and a filter it comes right to the door. Once I collect 5 gallons of used oil I just drop it off at Autozone for free. I save over 20 dollars every amsoil oil change instead of using regular oil or going to firestone for 20 dollar oil change plus tax and oil disposal fee. Also takes firestone like 3 hours to change my oil.
@HiTechOilCo Amsoil is like a pyramid scheme where you have to buy a membership of something like $30/ 6months in order to qualify for their savings program. If you calculate the money you spend on membership, the product works out to be the same price as any synthetic oil around. Amsoil will also charge a shipping fee to send the product out instead you can easily go down the street to your local walmart and get whatever with no membership or shipping fee required.
@o0Sp3cia1K0o - You might be confused, because what you said is entirely incorrect. No one, "has", to buy anything, but to enjoy the 25%-30% savings of wholesale prices, a consumer can purchase a Preferred Customer membership for a mere $10, (not $30). Most people save that $10 and more on their very first order. AMSOIL products can save consumers a lot of money in reduced maintenance costs, longer engine life and improved fuel economy that discount stores can't provide. Also, with an AMSOIL...
@o0Sp3cia1K0...Preferred Customer account, consumers also benefit from wholesale prices on high performance Injen Cold Air Induction kits, NGK Spark Plugs, Wix oil/air/fuel/transmission filters, Trico wiper blades, Mother's Car Care Appearance products and much more. No need to pay expensive retail prices anymore. I provide all my customers a free Preferred Customer account, so they don't even pay that $10. If you or anyone would like to save money, just send me a private message. Take care.
M-1 @ walmart is cheap and available. I change my oil @ 5k w/ M1.
Amsoil is great I am sure but you have to be part of a fcukin cult to use it.

Why is there a MAJOR discrepancy between the four ball wear test you show in this video and the one shown on the page you link to?
Both show results from November 2008 testing.
All the figures are the same, relatively. But the labels are completely different.
