  • As a teen, I was first introduced to The Ventures with Hawaii Five-0, and from that point on I collected all of their past and future albums. Being a musician's son myself, it was this group that turned me on to the drums, too. In the late sixties, who were the members: Mel Taylor, Nokie Edwards, Bob Bogle and Gerry McGee, correct?

  • @argonaut815 Good memory and love the story...you are correct for the most of it, however in '68, nokie went on to do his own music and etc., Gerry came in in '68 and an added member was John Durille (of the 5 Americans)on the keys and Don Wilson has always done (and still does) the Rythem guitar.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • The drum solo in WIPEOUT probably holds the record for being performed (imitated?) the most number of times, and Mel Taylor is absolutely one of the best drummers of all time. Nobody could ever do it better. I've been a fan since I was in my teens, and I'll be one forever. Thanks for your great uploads!

  • @rachel220cons mel was deemed the #1 drummer in the world in the late 60's, however the drummer for the surfaris (Wilson) went 102 hrs. in 1964...Thanks for the comment and being a Ventures fan!

  • @rachel220cons I agree 100% with you Mel was just awesome on the drums! I have been a fan since I heard my first Ventures cd the best of the ventures. The Ventures are the greatest instrumental guitar band of all time and I like you will be a fan for life.

  • The first time I ever heard WIPE OUT was by THE VENTURES when I was about 4 years old. Sometime latter on I heard the original surfaries version... I'm not tring to knock their version, but as a child, I couldn't believe how Mel Taylor's drum solo was 100 times better than the original version. :) R.I.P. Mr. Mel Taylor. It's to bad that I couldn't meet Mel in person. However, I did get to see him live on stage in 1989 + I have talked with him on the phone when he would call me or dad.

  • Great to hear this song again! It was a challenge to dance to this song many years ago (a whole lot of hip-shakin' goin' on). lol It was mandatory in those days to have "Wipe-out" played at every wedding reception! :) Great to know you're on You Tube now. Best Wishes for your continued success!

  • Welcome to my channel Maureen!

I only knew one gal that could really shake it down to this(or the surfaris) tune...kinda made me sweat more than playing it. ; ))
