  • i agree that this is a problem but an ip ban is absolutely not a sulution to people creating new counts. most people have dhcp so disconnecting and reconnecting your router would get around an ip block. VVIZARD0 also points to a legitimate reason why ip bans are not god in general and not in this case either. beside that i like you’re videos keep up the good work.

  • @jovaha Reseting the router would only change your internal ip address. I have several port forwards set up using my external ip and have reset my router many times and nothing has changed

  • i'm in college dorm, and 3000 of us share one IP over NAT device so IP ban would suck

  • How about uploading it on other sites about ten times over on each? As I have heard from ZOMGitsCriss, once her video was flagged and censored it was uploaded on other sites like 300 sites. Make your videos go viral.

  • Thumbs up if you want IP bans!! s'great idea. Let's see how many new computers those crazies can afford to continue trolling :P

  • enough is enough! youtube has been getting away with abusing users long enough. i just got bulk mailed on appeal that all of the INSTRUMENTALS in my channel "violate community standards!" (not copyrights).

as individuals, youtube can afford to ignore us like the faceless corporation it is, but we WILL have a say if the THOUSANDS of us whose free speech has been violated UNITE!

let's start a class action lawsuit! pass the word, it's time to be heard! fight the conspirators using THEIR methods

  • first time i seen this vid and lol the votebots have not stopped because we have not stopped trying to educate people

  • Love your video. I contacted one time the Business Bureau and they helped me very well. The complain was about other company and the made this company to apologized. lol

  • Love your video.

  • Thank you for this video. While watching the whole VFX meltdown, I kept thinking that the whole mess could have been avoided if YouTube was more responsible to it's users.

  • How hard can it be to start up a grassroots campaign via Emails, PM's - to give YouTube some competition?

Get 50,000 people who are sick of YouTube's indifference to commit to MOVING their videos from YouTube, to the new site!

All we need is a GOOD NAME and some good computer-geeks!

  • Just fight fire with fire until everything is flagged!

  • Somebody needs to clean out their inbox.

  • Tried to help but I live in Australia and hence I can not access the BBB website due to postal code requirement.....

  • Important info. Thanks for posting.

  • Very informative video. Thanks DonExodus2.

    I mean it man.

  • Actually, no an IP ban will not block a user simply because many ISPs actually share IP addresses with all of their users and thus the IP address of the abusive person can change every couple hours. The logical solution is to block MAC addresses, which is permanently burned into the NIC and only technical users know how to mask or change.

  • an even better idea.

  • Blocking MAC adresses wont work

since they are NOT propagated tru/across routers.

  • lol I just checked and the Better Business Bureau says YouTube has a letter grade of F! They say the reasons are:

    13 complaints filed against business

Failure to respond to 12 complaints filed against business.

You'd think this would get YouTube's attention, but I guess not.

  • well, I'm glad I played my part in it (I did in fact send just such a form, which was approved).

  • I just wish that the whole votebot tng woud stop on both sides cause it has cause a ripple effect on YT overall and people need to grow up and stop, yeah people have there right to have their own view on subjects like religion for example but togo as far as to do the votebot thing. both sides need to wake up and figure out who is doing it and to stop them and stop the silly accusations already . why don't you two groups work together and find out hwo done it and bring all the proof to YT?

  • The only here is that the BBB is only for the US and Canada, I'm not sure if there is an equivalent company for UK and Ireland. I've been false flagged myself recently, I cannot believe how much of a playground YT is for cyber bullies and haters. It's disgusting.

  • dude i absolutely love your videos they mke me think and want to learn again

  • The funny thing is that YouTube claims that they review all flagged videos, when they obviously do not. And you are so right--the infuriating thing is that YouTube gives all the power to the false flaggers and none to the victims.

But please don't think that false flagging is limited to theists.

  • I filled out the form took no time at all.I hope it helps. <3

    ~Rachael~

  • twenty thousand subscriptions would help with having confidence in one's work I guess.

  • he is a fucking doctor.

  • Hey dude if one knows what one is talking about the way this guy does then one deserves to have confidence,

  • He's not alone.

  • @prettyblueplanet because hes fucking smart and knows his shit and is tired of creationist/religious bullshit on youtube

  • oh fuck i accidentally clicked one star how do i undo

  • just go back and rate 5 stars. otherwise, you can't undo it-only cancel it out.

I accidently did so more than once, because of my poor mouse, so I ought to know :P

  • On another note, the BBB probably IS the best solution to this problem. Just how to get through to them is the ultimate trick. Another great video, Don.

  • the best solution is sheer numbers. its not a guarantee, however.

  • Users don't pay subscription services therefore little or nothing will get done. The adverts call the shots....and all they care about is having their ad on the main page, and in their OWN videos.

  • Good video DE, yes its infuriating that YT has offered no means for users to fight back against votebots and flaggers trying to shut down their accounts.

I've seen it happen often to great users who never broke the rules but still got suspended or had videos deleted. The worse part is not being able to speak to YT customer service since there isn't any.

Another option might be to contact politicians with some influence that can try to deal directly with YT and get their policies changed.

  • "The worse part is not being able to speak to YT customer service since there isn't any."

I'm surprised that no one has posted their San Bruno headquarters telephone number... not like it's unlisted.

  • Dude you need to clean out your inbox.

  • just drink the hemlock

  • by the way, i liked your video Don

    keep it up :D

  • That phone number is too long. All I got was a "Please hang up and dial again" message.

  • Don, the problem with complaining to BBB is that YT is free. Had we sent Google/UT money for services rendered, we would have a far greater capacity to be taken seriously. YT can say, "hey, if you don't like our terms for this free service, go somewhere else", and we non-paying users have no legal recourse.

Copyright and obscenity laws are what drives YouTube's need for a FLAG button. You'd be far better off advocating a change in those outdated and biased laws than complaining to the BBB.

  • Actually, its not that simple. Youtube needs traffic to exist as they live of that traffic to be commercial consumers. As such, they are under the same regulation as any company when they show any commercial, and they are liable for any method they use to gain more traffic. In turn, without the customers activity their traffic would go down. They are therefore liable for their customers as well, in a court of law. In theory, everything I do on youtube is a part of their company platform.

  • cont.

Taken to its extreme, if we do anything, like violating the law by uploading pornography or such, youtube is actually liable as they made it possible.

So if we where to start talking about rights and laws, lets take it both ways, shall we? They would need to censure every video until a team of lawyers appoved it. xD

Making it even worse, they opperate here in Norway. As such, they must submit to our laws. 8D

  • I was tempted to flag this video - just for kicks. Good idea.

  • the big problem in your theory: the mistaken idea that we are youtube's customers. we aren't. we do not pay youtube for its services, therefore youtube has no obligation toward us. youtube's customers are its advertisers. we, the consumers, are the commodity being sold.

which, of course, is not to say that youtube isn't being an ass and shouldn't so something about this. but this isn't exactly the sort of situation you imply.

  • Who's going to see the ads if their users stop using their site?

  • I just got a response from BBB:

*** This complaint has been closed. If you have more information to provide to the bureau regarding this complaint, please click here. ***

Here is the URL of the complaint:

    goldengate[dot]app[dot]bbb[dot]org/complaint/new/0000198283

YouTube is not a member of BBB, so all it can do is leave a message for the contact at YouTube. We all know that YouTube never returns phonecalls or emails. The BBB cannot get through to a human either.

  • But Google probably is, maybe the complaint should be directed at them. But then again I think YouTube is an independent subsidiary of Google, so I don't know if that would do any good.

  • Whoa, check out 0:25, DonExodus has tons of messages in his mailbox. No wonder he never responded to my question.

  • Cont... This absolutely is a problem with services that are policed by anon users of the community services. I've seen the problem of flagging on Craigslist out of control at times, with much false flagging, and little to no feedback from CL staff regarding this when I inquired. As long as there are sufficient users to generate advertisers that drive their revenue, it seems some of these services are happy to stay the course.

  • Interesting vid, some comments pro & con:

    1. I.P bans don't work, very easy to get around.

    2. How about sending certified return receipt mail directly to YouTube & Google Offices to contact them?

    3. The term "whistleblower", refers to employees of a company, not users of a free subscription service. I suspect people have little legal recourse should YT terminate your account.

    4. Does YT care what the BBB thinks? YT know's the level of customer service, or lack of it, they provide.

  • This is the problem with systems that rely on community policing, the nutjobs with no lives to censor based on their idiotic standards. I think this will lead to youtube fading compared to competitors over time if it doesn't figure out ways to correct this.

  • I went to the BBB once,

I ask them if the recommended companys, they said Yes.

I told them that when a person calls and asks about company XYZ, Tell them the company SUCKS.

They said they would help fix tings up, I said No, just tell people the truth !

Thay said the is NOT THE WAY WE WORK !

  • lalalal

  • damn youtueb comments broken again thye should fix that

  • Why not just boycott? There have to be alternatives to YouTube. It has obviously gotten so big that they don't care if people are unhappy. They're just going to continue laughing their way to the bank.

  • lol "now for your moment of zen" LMFAO

  • IP bans are heavy-handed and cannot be used by YouTube because rotating IPs will catch innocent people.

For (email) spamming, many people say "ban IPs" and then they start to say "ban subnets" .. it ends up with "ban that country" which is a Bad idea.

  • Filed.

  • Heh.

It means Venom, or his minions, haven't learned anything from the Thunderf00t experience.

What did we expect though? They just quickly vindicate their base primate behavior by saying their invisible friend told them it was OK.

  • funny video like this always allow all comment to be post, even the bad one.while christian will filter their comment or just disable it.

  • keep up the good work , brother.

the creationists have no other argument than to try to censor the views that aren't in line with their own.

  • I filed a complaint with the BBB.

  • 1482 new things in inbox.. dude, serioulsy. I get like.. 4 a week.

I haven't been on very much coz my laptop died so I'm not aware of all the shitty flagging and suspending that has been going on. Makes me depressed...

  • ...............

  • Hmmm..very interesting.

I agree with Disthron about IP bans not being a good solution. Maybe flagging in general should be removed as it is constantly being abused. If a person violates the TOS or has a channel with obscene content the decision to remove this person from the youtube community should be done by the community itself. Any idiot can flag a video but it takes an informed and intelligent individual to take place in a discourse on why a certain user should be banned.

  • thanks for very informative video. i have noticed that in some domains youtube was very confusing. flagging is one of them.

  • That's one tight fish at 8:30, i like it

  • I'm sorry but complaining through the BBB is pointless too. If you look up Youtube there and look at their ratings the BBB says that they have requested information from Youtube and YT has not responded. YT doesn't pay attention to them either. I think they are allowing this stuff to happen to drive away people so they have an excuse to make major changes that squeeze the average person out.

  • haha the picture at 7:57 was well distracting.

it's a good idea, we really need to get youtube to listen to us, this has gone on for long enough now!

  • Part of the video and audio was missing.

  • IP ban is useless, there are better options

  • I have to say, I'm not really in favore of IP bans. It can lead to things like internet cafes beeing banned becouse of users assness. Also, even though there being asses, they should still be able to voice there opinion.

It's more the voatbotting and false flaging that I am conserned about. Sure they can come back if they are kicked out but so can we. If they start banning IP addresses then if they get someone kicked out unfearly they will not be able to come back ether.

  • wow look at how nay messages he gets O_O

    0:20

  • i used to be able to label comments as NOT SPAM, and it used to work quite well.

But i noticed the NOT SPAM button stopped working a few weeks/months ago.

  • An IP ban would limit my household to 1 account. Five of us live here...

How about, as well as having a flag link, have an un-flag link.

  • bump for agreeance.

  • thats a Lot of messages up there, also im subbing.

  • A "report false flagging" would be nice.

  • Some of us using certain service providers will have the same IP as other people - hence an IP ban could catch the innocent as well as the guilty.

  • Simply using the same ISP does not give you the same IP...

  • Another reason why an IP ban would fail, you disconnect and reconnect your wireless router with some ISPs and your IP changes (mine does and since i have a dodgy router and a server on here it's very annoying)

  • @DonExodus2 In the UAE where i am i think about 1000 people share the same IP address. I am not allowed to make a wikipedia account because it told me i vandalised Israel's page, which i didn't. And i don't think that accounts should be banned for being racist, but i really hate it when stupid creationists flag videos simply because it disagrees with them. Nothing gets me more angry.

  • 1-2-3-4 I DECLARE A YOUTUBE WAR.

  • "A simple IP ban or 2 nanoseconds worth of effort would mitigate this."

Oh you're so naive it's cute.

  • 90% of the attacks happen by computer illiterate trolls who stop after 2 days.

An IP ban is perfect for them.

  • I think 90% of the attacks are probably one person. How many people are there out there motivated enough to make a slew of sock accounts and log out and in and out again just to one star someone's video? My guess is all this trouble is one or two losers in their mother's basement.

    Who knows though.

  • theDracoIX - So you like censoring?

In that case, what's stopping me from reporting you to youtube and making them ban your IP address?

  • Of course he loves censorship, hes a creotard.

  • Also, the NWO isnt comprised of morons, such as yourself.

  • theDracoIX : You are wrong!!! Youtube sells advertising space. DonExodus2 and others who make videos create content for free that draws viewers. Without those of us who make videos no one would ever visit the site and the advertising space would be worthless. They should provide some support for the video makers. Without them they have nothing to sell.

  • Youtube doesn't get that much from advertising actually, "doesn't get that much" means they're losing money, they don't get enough back from adverts as they spend on servers and electricity because everyone nowadays has adblockers and even then no one clicks adverts.

  • I've never seen an ad on youtube

  • Adds appear as a box on the top of the youtube home page. They can be closed. They also appear as links at the bottom of some videos. They to can be closed. My 9 year old just showed me how to do that. Very humbling. I'm not sure why they're not on all videos. It may be just on partner videos. Keep an eye out, you'll see.

  • thanks, I use adblock plus , and it seems to work.

  • Is there an equivalent for people who don't live in a country with a zip or postal code?

  • If YOU, sir, have been flagged and votebotted, the problem is even worse that I thought.

    You, so moderate, flagged???? WTF...

  • Fuck youtube, we don't need to bend over to a bunch of Google rejects. There must be a better alternative.

  • Closing down the accounts of abusive people is itself censorship...

  • not really, when the ToS states you're only allowed 1 account on YouTube and the person has several, then closing all, but 1 of that persons account is not censorship, nor is closing all his (or hers) accounts for that matter

  • Youtube is free service. Advertisers are the true customers since they pay the bills. YT is world within a world. If you want the police to enforce the rules then you are going to have to pay someone to do so. I don't think YT wants to get into the squabbles between users but wishes to create a safe environment for its advertisers.

YT should offer paid support. If you pay for support they will help you if you have issues.

How many companies use YT as free web hosting for its videos?

  • Unfortunately, the BBB may not give you the answer you're looking for. Also, YouTube isn't exactly turning an oil-sized profit (or any profit if nothing's changed since I last checked), so the feasibility of implementing a lot of these changes may be nil. I'm not defending the current situation, nor the lack of a solution. But pursuing a solution may result in no YouTube at all. And believe me when I say that's not an exaggerated expectation.

  • LMAO 1482 new messages!!!!!

    glad im not a vlogger

  • Yes and IP ban would only solve it for those with dynamic ISP. You can refresh IP in windows XP by manually changing address to 0.0.0.0 then changing it back to automatic.

  • by would only... i mean wouldn't...

  • Or unplug your router

  • Youtube runs at a LOSS. Income from advertisimg is less than the hosting cost.

It's not surprising that they chose not to pay people to answer the phone, or manually check flaggings.

  • Once again the moment of zen was priceless

  • I put up a video re a girl being beaten in swat valley by the taliban ..with text i added at the beginning & at the end with a john lennon song playing in the back ground..serve yourself.. the text at the end ..was if this represented a god ..then god can fuck off

It got removed ..who knows y ..it wasn't the music or 4 the girl being beaten or her screams ..it was 4 my disrespect 4 religion..Well i am entitled 2 my opinion

it's freedom of speech ..except ..on youtube

    judge & jury & executioner

  • I agree with you. But I simply can't take you seriously when you use numbers as words.

This is the internet, not day care.

  • In an attempt to convey as much information as possible with the limited amount of text allowed by youtube i have had to substitute some numerals for text

This is using my intelligence to over come a difficulty & i find myself being criticised by a moron.

Therefore as 99.99% of people have no problem with this regarding the substitution perhaps it is you who needs 2 attend day school for at he very least, to learn some civilised manners ...

    Thicky

    Yours insincerely

    mylampstand..

    btw

    Get a life

  • I'm in sarcasmic shock.

  • Are you enjoying it & would you like some more ..

    lol

  • You have no rights with big business

they make all their own rules up ..& u have no say what so ever..dictators rule here

This is big business ..u ain't got no rights

If u think this will change your wasting your time

utube don't want u on here ..they want u gone .they don't earn money from u

they have set it up ..so the accounts can be shut down ..they want u all off here

    Surely u understand that

The original people who set up youtube sold us down the river ..they took the money & ran

  • Theres a slight problem here in that since youtube is a private company, they are not obligated to not censor your videos. As you say, you could make a complaint to the effect that youtube is impossible to contact, and that there really is no means to get a hold of them whatsoever.

The fact that youtube is a free service really gives them no obligation towards users - only towards advertisers.

  • I honestly did not know that that is what the BBB does. I think i may check that out. Thanks.

  • Woohoo dprjones returns! I was in such a bad mood and now its gone.

  • On a similar note of sock puppet accounts, FrankReturns is now FrankPolitics.

  • Dprjones' original account is backup.

  • Goodie gump drops!

Thanks for all the support - to ALL of you!

  • I'm sorry to be a pain in the ass but which is the video where donexodus2 shows survey results of whether people believe snow flake crystalization takes place? If any of you can remember please reply.

    Thanks in advance.

  • it's called Putting Creationism Into Perspective

  • I went to the Better Business Bureau site, and here is their assessment of YouTube:

"Based on BBB files, YouTube, Inc. has a BBB Rating of F."

They've received 9 complaints in the last 3 years, 8 of which were completely ignored by YouTube.

How the fuck is a company this big able to get away with being so irresponsible? It's unheard of! The BBB gave them a fucking F!!!

  • It is youtube doing the censoring, duh.

  • That's the reason why I'm not supporting Don's efforts to get the BBB involved. Don't get me wrong, it's a different approach to get them to stop dicking around and fix some problems. But we see proof that YouTube doesn't give a flying fuck about the BBB.

  • Dprjones is back, everyone. Youtube got their shit straight and reinstated his channel.

Yell loud enough and they will hear.

  • A BRAIN, you dont have 1.

  • What a surprise, the wild west has no law.

YouTube doesn't even have a business model so I don't see what the better business bureau is supposed to do about it. There is no sense in which you are a customer. You're a user of a free service, and you use it with no guarantees.

The moral highground is lame. Just flag creationist videos back. At least it would make things interesting.

  • So to fix it we should make the problem worse?

  • > "So to fix it we should make the problem worse?"

Well....one possible way of stopping false flagging would be to clog the system to such a degree that YouTube would just disable the flagging function completely.

It's not the best solution, but it is *A* Solution.

Not endorsing it, just acknowledging it.

  • dpr here is not 20 question's but 4

1/ were you told you were suspended from youtube...yes or no

2/ were you told you couldn't have any other youtube accounts...yes or no

3/were you told your suspension was permanent ....yes or no

4/ are you reapeat offending by being on youtube....yes or no

  • 1/ No.

(He found out about his suspension by trying to log into his account and finding himself locked out.)

    2/ Yes

He already had a backup account for just such emergencies. and no, the dprjoneslives account had not been suspended.

    3/ Yes.

Not that it matters. His account has been reinstated.

    4/ Yes

The policy is broken and enforced unjustly. Unjust laws are meant to be broken and overthrown.

  • Yet you can just get all of 4chan to launch an attack again and kill youtube :P

  • I knew something like this would happen ever since your " Questions for people who don't accept evolution" video, since the creationist(s) tried to silence you.

  • yes he was thrown out, has he no pride, if youtube told me i was not wanted as a customer on their site i wouldn't come back, dpr as no pride though

  • It's not that YouTube doesn't want him as a customer, it's that the automated system that runs YouTube doesn't know or care what happens to anyone who posts here.

As for the pride issue: if he had no pride, he wouldn't be sticking up for himself. And he deserves to. Because he's in the right.

  • I think you mean a "modicum" of competence.

  • An IP ban would not "work very well on many." Any person that knows how to create/use automated votebots knows exactly how to use a web proxy. Hell, no setup is even required... they can just go to one of those web anonymizer sites, plug in the Youtube URL and that's it. It's not going to stop anything.

  • hey everyone i have a great idea...dpr could pay a 500 to 1,000 pound fine for being a repeat offender on youtube, then youtube could donate the fine to the childrens hospital. well???

  • Special here seems to be a real "special person"...

  • Yeah, the only other option I can think of is to call Google, press 0, #, * or whatever to get a person, then ask for the contact information for YouTube or to be transferred to their YouTube department.

If YouTube purposely has no customer support, as it obviously doesn't, BBB is the best shot you really have unluckily.

Other options would be to go to a conference google reps would be at, and blogging or getting Matt Cutts to blog about it is another option.

  • i know you said that retaliation from youtube is very unlikely but i downloaded this vid and its on stand by to go up on my channel should yours be censored or deleted. i just really don't trust youtube.

  • Unfortunately, an IP ban would be easily circumvented through proxy servers.

  • Further more, until the flagging system isn't flawless, an IP ban can easily turn against fair users. Worst idea possible!

  • Boycott YouTube. Go to Film Rokie. CLick on the Ads there. When you tube sees that we're giving money to another site, they'll be more open to change.

  • Don your videos are awesome. Logic and reason!

  • Awesome vid as always DonEx2!

  • Haha the German ad at the end is just awesome^^

I'm German and I hate when other Germans can't say the 'TH' :D

    Great vid btw.

  • blood brain barrier? oh wait better business bureau

  • You Tube will continue down the road to mediocrity and market populism, while ignoring that which put them on the map, the creative and vibrant users comunity. They will be replaced soon by a site that is more open, less commercialized and more responsive to their users and posters. imho

  • intill the site of witch you speak turns into youtube in witch case well will all move to the next more open site and so on and so forth

  • I think that youtube is more than likely deliberately ignoring issues such as this.

It sucks i know, but they must have so so much shit to deal with from people AROUND THE PLANET, so why would they want to concern themselves with a very touchy and inflammatory issue such as this.

The video makes a good point, and these changes would be awesome, yet i fear youtube ain't coming near this conflict.

  • Send emails to dmca at yt, they work alot better for unfair flagging removed.

  • I think Thunderf00t should refer his legions of subscribers to another media forum. We can all congregate there. Perhaps the only way to get Youtube to change is to leave.

  • I have my own ideas concerning leaving YT. Any developers out there?

  • Good question.

Get a half decent forum and I'm there. Fuck youtube.

  • An IP ban wouldn't neccesarrily take care of the problem. Since the internet uses DHCP all a person has to do is unplug their computer for a few minutes or put in a renew ip command and they ban doesn't work anymore. What youtube needs to do is ban MAC addresses.

  • The internet in itself doesn't use DHCP but a single ISP might and MAC addresses despite popular belief can be spoofed and changed. There's also the problem of large portions of the world being behind NATs. Many universities, companies and so on are behind NATs. Worse yet there are entire country's NATed like Qatar. What they could be doing however is vote pattern analysis as the vote bots shoudn't exibit the same pattern as a crowd of humans.

  • @aloric645] MAC addresses aren't visible over the Internet.

  • finally, a way to laodge a formal complaint about youtube.

thanks DonExodus-I went ahead and filed.

  • "took a long time"

WOW you did all that research yourself?

    LOL

Hard to make a video with stupid creationist claims?

  • I honestly think there may be trolls just to frame religious people of such disruption, and I can see how YT would give flaggers the benefit of doubt as videos that MIGHT be harmful are better to be falsely flagged than unflagged.

Best solution? EXODUS, find a better place, vimeo, liveleak, metacafe, blip...etc.

  • I am filing the complaint right now.
