Moderatamente animato.. i think this must be the correct tempo according to the composer. anyway, why the hell a rushed interpretation of any classical piece is so criticized? it is called "interpretation" cause u put yourself into the piece and play it your way... just listen and let others play as they want. and however.. this debussy can be rushed :) in the Michelangeli way :)
Very enjoyable. This version definately brings the beauty of this piece to the forefront. The only criticism I have is the liberal use of petal. It sounds great, but I'm not sure if that's whay Debussy intended his piece to sound. I personally like to add a little more stacatto sound into some of the measures and then contrast it with the pedaling in other sections.
It is unusually slow but more sensitive and with more emotion...I like this performance, but I think that Walter Gieseking's performance is one of the best!
(I'm sorry for my mistakes but I don't know the english language very well:-( )
@1hipster1 Exactly. All performers of this I have seen on utube think only about the speed - "the faster, the better". That´s a terrible mistake when we speak about Debussy´s music, I think. This is played brilliantly, with understanding the piece (and I´m not saying that cos I´m Czech ;) ).
Sehr schön gespielt! Traumhaft!

What does this have to do with Gradus ad Parnassum? Is this an elaborate joke by Debussy?

hipster basicly said it. there's no reason to play it so riciculously fast. this is the first version i enjoyed listening to.

Beautiful playing! I am currently learning this piece and wanted someone playing it at just the right speed, not too fast. Thank you for the video!

@ProudToNotBeRacist I am learning it also, and the others were just WAY too fast to actually hear it well. Love this one!
