Hope they decide to tour again, i would definlity would like to finally go see & hear what i missed all these years! I've seen just about everyone But,....ELO.
Now before I say more, I want you to know I'm a real fan of Jeff Lynne and ELO...Now to rankle some feathers...Jeff was not that good of a singer, BUT...(please don't yell) No one else can sing these songs, he is a essential to them as the cellos! I have always thought that he is a genius, bringing together classical and rock...Beethoven and Orbison...He IS a classic!
i cant understand why elo are not respcted more than they are today, they were years ahead of their time - jeff was the best songwriter of our generation, I never get tired of listening to them.

hoy esta nublado...dia nostalgico,y para connotar..escucho esta cancion....con volumen alto y solo en la casa.........que buena era la dupla lynne groucutt
@BEYONDTHEPALE1 he hasnt ever distorted his voice in a studio, its simply a small little device called a vocoder. To me, his voice is still good when he performs live. People who cant see that need a life, be cause you should admire the talent above all. i'm just saying, his voice is still good.
How good does Jeff Lynne's voice sound natural like this? In my view he used to overproduce or distort his voice in the studio too much. So much so that it sounded unnatural. Produce the music but leave the voice natural as it sounds.
Jeff Lynne has one of the best voices in rock history and his songs are so fabulous. No wonder that ELO is sometimes compared to Beatles. Listen his earlier works in Move and Idle Race, he is truly a genius!!!
back in 75 we was lucky to be alive and all that jive, and some hippies found a hive and the bees were sighed, thhe occceeeaaannnn had a kid, and the kid was in my head, and the whole world arte some bread and everybody got dead, and casn do at the ebbtide and the birds were uptight and the blast was past and the geeter was a heater and the elbow bender abd spaghett enbder and jiveass ....from my epick poem "Dopn Juen"
Any Sat. night, mid '70s; around midnight, a pasture party, parked cars scattered around, this softly playing on a few AM radios tuned into 1520 KOMA Oklahoma City, everyone hanging onto someone, the only light are a couple of campfires, the soft music only interrupted now and then by a girls laugh, many with Coors or mini-Millers in hand. Good times, things made sense, love always in the air!
I love ELO and this song, but did anyone catch the bass screwup at 1:35? Also, why use the word "chicane" in a context that isn't found in any dictionary, and then rhyme it with "name"? I mean, "walking on a wave SHE CAME" rhymes with "NAME", you know? Anyway, love the group and this is one of my ELO faves and its great to hear & see it live from the 70's instead of the lame ZOOM concert. Also --- all these guys on stage and all they can muster up is a 2-part harmony?
@BAMAMARV Caught it... But then, I'm a bass player! This is right around the time they adde3d new baas player Kelly Groucutt. For all we know, this might be one of his first gigs. Even of not, hey, we all have hic-ups on stage from time to time. Springsteen once forgot the words to Born In The USA.... On the Born In The USA tour!!!! :-) It happens to the best of us.
@sonicfrogdotnet - I'm not faulting him for screwing up on video as I have done so myself (check out my videos), but I was just curious if anybody caught it, that's all, like a "TV blooper". (LOL)
@BAMAMARV I figured as much. I have knocked a couple of Yahoos down a peg for criticizing a performance. Guys who play understand we all have oopses on stage from time to time.
@malthuswasright Kelly Groucutt Joined ELO in 1974 after the release of the Eldorado LP, which these songs are from. so i think it a young Kelly Groucutt
ELO never went down the crapper when Roy Wood left, I'm sorry thats wrong. Jeff Lynne took the lead and made them one of the most under rated bands of all time. some of their music is classic and if pink floyd or led zep had recorded their music, the critics would be bowing at their feet, but for some reason ELO never got the recognition they deserved. having said that, they have a very loyal following that keeps their music alive and long may it last.
@kevpk Electric Light Orchestra are the "Sons of Beatles". John Lennon said it himself - if The Beatles didn't break up in 1970, this is probably where their experimentation would have left them.
@hafrox " sons of Beatles ", thats a complement i would say. Jeff Lynne is a huge Beatles fan and worked a lot with George Harrison , also with Ringo Starr and Paul Mcartney. He also worked on the Beatles anthology albums including the Lennon songs , free as a bird and real love. The Beatles influence was in his music for certain. He is still a fine and underrated song writer in his own rights
These guys should be way more famous. They should be right up there with the Stones, The Who, and Led Zeppelin. I'm only 14, thank god my dad played this all the time.

@Chuckk117 I think he was just trying to be funny, as in "ello" like the work "hello". Aussies say it that way :) Either way, he's right, ELO does slaughter.
My boyfriend in 1974 turned me on the ELO, and after we broke up I couldn't bear to listen to them. Now I understand Jeff Lynne's genius - where did he come from? Such musical ideas! Such masculine beauty!

ELO was MY band back in the mid to late '70's- I thought they were the greatest thing since pop-top beer! They were just different from the other "Art Rock" bands of the time- remember being fasinated by the three classical string players(I even studied Cello in my high school orchestra because of them). Of course I went out and bought all their albums too!
This tune is so amazing . . reminds me of college, last call song. The night over, empty beer pitchers on the table, peanut shells all over the floor, waitresses cleaning up, the girls gone home, snow outside, classes on Monday . . . out of money, your homeys left you and this song would never get out of my head.
i enjoyed this one live they nailed it, never seen it before n on my local countdown 2! well erase 40 yrs of feminism n u might just get men back but i doubt it.

how many other bands successfully and awesomely were able to add an orchestra to their music...just amazing. bringing the best of 2 worlds together. :)
I'm 15 years old and i fucking love ELO! It's what i listen to whilst doing my coursework for school lol! I utterly love them! But i also like modern music too, not the shit like rap, that sucks ass, i'm more into the metal genre of music like Avenged Sevenfold. But my point is that the young people today should listen to ELO purely because they are just so damn talented! Evil woman, the first song i ever did on stage! It's what inspired me to learn piano. One of my favourite songs of all time!
jonno698 its nice to see someone of youth with such great taste in music .
I grew up south of detroit listening to soul rock and country until metal hit with the likes of judas priest and iron maiden but my roots always go back to the mainstays like ELO and Kansas.
@jonno698 So great to hear you say that , I was introduced to ELO at the age of 17 and have not looked back, they are an inspiration for music lovers, theres nothing like it now. The closest i heard recently was when Take That made their comeback.
Not the only one buddy! I'm 16 and I can't stop listening to them! I even sang some ELO at a small concert at my old school! That was pure awesomeness! Jeff Lynne is the best man in the world! =-D
You shut up you little foul mouth punk. Your mom needs to wash your mouth out with soap or learn to give you one hell of a paddling when you mouth obscenities!
You responded to me little man, not I you. Remember your email to me? "Shut up, you dozy prick." : Yea name calling, insulting. All i said to you in the first place was I love ELO too and I dont have to say fuck, shit, and so on to state the fact. You resorted rudeness, I was just responding the way you did to me. So hey why dont you SHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Okay, now no more emails little boy!
I hate foul mouthed idiots and I hate You Tube for allowing all the trolls to post their rants, profanity, hate speech, and so on! It's very scummy company on hree, I can almost smell the vile! ;)
@STEVEMOR909 No..but you did type fuck and shit and called the dude a prick when you were complaining about profanity. Calm down man...take a toke..and quit taking STUFF so seriously. Some people like to swear...some feel the need and others don't. I find the ones that complain about such trivial stuff are the ones that start most of the SHIT. Relax...and go back to listening to more of this great stuff...and realize some folks express themselves differently. It's called..FREEDOM...enjoy it!
I was repeating his post, it's in quotes "Shut up, you dozy prick" he told me. I used the f and s word saying I didnt have to use them describing the band. I should say f**** and S***, good point. I haven't had a toke in 25 years but I smoked enough weed in my youth to last a lifetime ;) Quite often while listening to ELO, Floyd, Zeppelin, etc lol. LOTS of trolls on You Tube and they dont censor it, not only profanity, but hate speech, racism, etc. That's why I get bent out of shape.
@STEVEMOR909 eh...they are just words. It's always the context you need to worry about. Besides...stuffy overzealous individuals ions ago started deciding which words sounded bad...then sheeple followed suit. "Fuck" used to mean...to strike with force... until somebody probably used it to describe their sexual encounter the night before to some prude baptist...and the rest is history. Don't let simple words get under your skin...they're just words. Context is what you always need to be privy to.
@jonno698 I tottaly agree. I wasnt born until just after ELO came out and I didnt find them until 3 years ago! Just under appreciated talent. Its like having a hold movie with all the best actors and best script. Complete genius! :D This is my favorite song.
I think most of the pop music is revolved around the popular drugs at the time. Look at it now..Meth and Crack .shitty drugs . shitty music. Its all anger ,loss of control and desperation now..Thanks crack and meth :(
With some of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees becoming more dubious, they should consider people like Jeff Lynne and Nick Lowe for their overall contibutions in performing and producing.
I remember just staring at the record cover with Dorothy's slippers and the wicked witches hands with the electric shock and playing that record over and over again. It touched me deeply as a 10yr old kid. Thanks
The summer of 75, a 1972 454 4 speed ragtop black vette, a hottie of a girlfriend with a tubetop, a 3 day road trip across Texas and this song...I'd give anything to go back, be locked up in 75 and the key thrown away. WTF happened to the music scene???
@balboaboats i would just give anything to meet a man who remembers how to be a real boyfriend like back then when ELO played what a great time in life when love was so deep and connected ,, and as for the new music scene it is differnt but i have to say some is good but not like what this music will always remind me of , kind of like I Can Get It Out Of MY Head as the song says , perhaps I'll love like a teen again someday again ,, V :)
@balboaboats There's nothing wrong with the music scene, it changes to reflect the times... I don't dig any of the pop stuff but I do love a lot of the metal nowadays. Needless to say, I'll always love the 60s/70s stuff a tad more...I just wish I was around when it happened :(...
@balboaboats I totally concur. I can trace this song back to a place and time I'd give anything to go back to. We are so fortunate to have been in that time. It's where (when) I want to be again.
@balboaboats - what happened is the over-commercialization of music as a product instead of an art. where there is the most money to be made, that is the music that the media will promote to the masses. if you want better specialized music you must dig for it yourself. there are still a few creative vintage style rock and progressive groups out now making great creative 70s styled music in countries across europe, but you have to really go looking for that stuff online to be able to find them.
Back in 1974, I didn't know anything about them. 'Telephone Line' is the tune that I heard on the radio (back in 1977) that made me a life long fan. This tune is one of my favorites from my favorite band.
Me listening to this tune is like a druggie with a coke fix....I can NEVER get enough. As an ELO addict, it's one of my top 5 favorites from the best band ever.....
ELO are just superb what can I say just so great to listen to, I fondly remember dad driving us up to mildura, back in the 1970,s in a valiant station wagon with ELO blarrin on the radio just fucking awesome what memories, and guess what i brought a valiant wagon in mint cond still blarrin ELO on CD just MINT dude.
I love ELO so much, this song really makes me want to cry. It's a beautiful work of art. I want it played at my funeral and "Fire On High" as well. Thanks for posting!
I always wanted 'Do Ya' played at my funeral. Somewhere during the ceremony, this tune WILL be played. Actually, it's in the top 5 of my all time favorite ELO tunes. If I could have Mik and that blue violin there, well, I guess I would be in Heaven.....Thanks, dhbiker2714....
well i dont know. your profile says youre 49. thats my dads age and he hasnt started planning for his funeral. why are you planning for yours? i dont think age has anything to do with it. just personal preference.
yup!...loved it in my 75 vega...I was gonna put a 350 in it till the cops pulled me over for the smoke screen i caused....oh wait...smoke screen....Ted Nugent...damn i miss those years...lol
The late Kelly Groucutt (he of the Opera-trained voice (just listen to "Rockaria" which Lynne would never have been able to sing)) did the vocals for this song.
Such a beautiful song...I have tears every time I hear this soul haunting melody. It cuts me so deep...so deep......words could never translate it. God Bless ELO.
Just to explain - tapes of human choir voices - one vpice for each note - great idea and must have saved the band a fortune, not having to take a choir with them on tour! Three cheers for Streetly Electronics (who made the Mellotron and are still going strong, with its revival by Oasis, Razorlight, etc)!

I grew up south of detroit listening to soul rock and country until metal hit with the likes of judas priest and iron maiden but my roots always go back to the mainstays like ELO and Kansas.
kingdiamond69 1 year ago
@jonno698 So great to hear you say that , I was introduced to ELO at the age of 17 and have not looked back, they are an inspiration for music lovers, theres nothing like it now. The closest i heard recently was when Take That made their comeback.
Cheers.

@STEVEMOR909 Shhhhhhhh. Why do you care? Go pointlessly pester someone else. Bye bye.

@STEVEMOR909 Calm down, sunshine. My 'Shhhhhhhhh' annoyed you, didn't it... Nice. :) Why are you bothered about me swearing? Get a life...

I hate foul mouthed idiots and I hate You Tube for allowing all the trolls to post their rants, profanity, hate speech, and so on! It's very scummy company on hree, I can almost smell the vile! ;)
STEVEMOR909 1 year ago
@STEVEMOR909 No..but you did type fuck and shit and called the dude a prick when you were complaining about profanity. Calm down man...take a toke..and quit taking STUFF so seriously. Some people like to swear...some feel the need and others don't. I find the ones that complain about such trivial stuff are the ones that start most of the SHIT. Relax...and go back to listening to more of this great stuff...and realize some folks express themselves differently. It's called..FREEDOM...enjoy it!
MrCadillacdawg 1 year ago
I was repeating his post, it's in quotes "Shut up, you dozy prick" he told me. I used the f and s word saying I didnt have to use them describing the band. I should say f**** and S***, good point. I haven't had a toke in 25 years but I smoked enough weed in my youth to last a lifetime ;) Quite often while listening to ELO, Floyd, Zeppelin, etc lol. LOTS of trolls on You Tube and they dont censor it, not only profanity, but hate speech, racism, etc. That's why I get bent out of shape.
STEVEMOR909 1 year ago
@STEVEMOR909 eh...they are just words. It's always the context you need to worry about. Besides...stuffy overzealous individuals ions ago started deciding which words sounded bad...then sheeple followed suit. "Fuck" used to mean...to strike with force... until somebody probably used it to describe their sexual encounter the night before to some prude baptist...and the rest is history. Don't let simple words get under your skin...they're just words. Context is what you always need to be privy to.
MrCadillacdawg 1 year ago
@jonno698 I tottaly agree. I wasnt born until just after ELO came out and I didnt find them until 3 years ago! Just under appreciated talent. Its like having a hold movie with all the best actors and best script. Complete genius! :D This is my favorite song.

@jonno698 . Glad you like music but your sound ike a brat using all the foul language. Not cool!!!

kuntyfuk..I agree 100%!

The summer of 75, a 1972 454 4 speed ragtop black vette, a hottie of a girlfriend with a tubetop, a 3 day road trip across Texas and this song...I'd give anything to go back, be locked up in 75 and the key thrown away. WTF happened to the music scene???
balboaboats 2 years ago 44
@balboaboats i would just give anything to meet a man who remembers how to be a real boyfriend like back then when ELO played what a great time in life when love was so deep and connected ,, and as for the new music scene it is differnt but i have to say some is good but not like what this music will always remind me of , kind of like I Can Get It Out Of MY Head as the song says , perhaps I'll love like a teen again someday again ,, V :)
vlucidity 1 year ago
@balboaboats There's nothing wrong with the music scene, it changes to reflect the times... I don't dig any of the pop stuff but I do love a lot of the metal nowadays. Needless to say, I'll always love the 60s/70s stuff a tad more...I just wish I was around when it happened :(...

I love ELO so much, this song really makes me want to cry. It's a beautiful work of art. I want it played at my funeral and "Fire On High" as well. Thanks for posting!
dhbiker2714 2 years ago 3
I always wanted 'Do Ya' played at my funeral. Somewhere during the ceremony, this tune WILL be played. Actually, it's in the top 5 of my all time favorite ELO tunes. If I could have Mik and that blue violin there, well, I guess I would be in Heaven.....Thanks, dhbiker2714....

Vindicator58 2 years ago
Dude,
Your profile says your only 14. How/why are you thinking about what tunes you want played at your funeral??
bourne9999 2 years ago
well i dont know. your profile says youre 49. thats my dads age and he hasnt started planning for his funeral. why are you planning for yours? i dont think age has anything to do with it. just personal preference.
dhbiker2714 2 years ago
No sense waiting to the last minute. People die at all ages. It's not like I have bought a plot. lol Like you said, just personal preference.
bourne9999 2 years ago
yes exactly. i can see why it would be weird if someone my age had their funeral planned out perfectly.

The late Kelly Groucutt (he of the Opera-trained voice (just listen to "Rockaria" which Lynne would never have been able to sing)) did the vocals for this song.

i'm not so sure about that, for eldorado mike d 'albaquerque was still in the band. and kelly did'nt replace him untill face the music...

sounds very different cause is a live performance and... well but yes Jeff is "both", studio and live totally!

Jeff Lynne. My soul. There's a difference between live and recorded performance.

Jeff wrote the lyrics, wrote the musical score, and sang it. It is all Jeff Lynne's work and talent.

Was Richard Tandy playing the chorus on a some type of keyboard?

Yes it was called a Mellotron
ELONut 3 years ago
Just to explain - tapes of human choir voices - one vpice for each note - great idea and must have saved the band a fortune, not having to take a choir with them on tour! Three cheers for Streetly Electronics (who made the Mellotron and are still going strong, with its revival by Oasis, Razorlight, etc)!
