  • Oh my! I've been listening to the audio of this for ages, and here suddenly is the video! Thank you, thank you! I love her artistry, spunk, and obvious passion (on many levels!). She is one of the greatest living pianists.

  • she's my favorite pianist

  • His music is roman but she just plays like Beethoven music. It is wrong.

  • Good technique but no heart fell. She plays not Chopin characteristic at all. His music is m

  • @ninaN3235 Who said Chopin/Beethoven and any other composers music has to be played one certain way?

  • a 4:55, c'est juste le moment le plus beau et le mieux joué de tout le monde. on dirait les notes rapides qu'elle joue tombent du ciel et c'est magique a chaque fois que j'entends ca,

  • why is the recording a half-note higher than what it should be???

  • @lnhleung422 Because it's 56 years old.

  • Amazing. Martha is brilliant.

  • such beautiful hands.... look at those hands... they are perfect.....

  • She's the music . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Making these brilliant tunes HOT! An incredibly talented beautiful woman, playing incredibly crafted music...Black an white...so good.

  • this is such a legendary and non-affordable video..

  • Preciosa. Un comentario en castellano argento... intérprete única, gracias por el video

  • May be it is most tragic piece of chopin

  • Martha is the only one! ;-)

  • ssssssssssssssst don't compare this legend with other interpreter...please.

  • Agreed, I've been searching among the masters for the interpretations that I like the best, hers tends to be top 5 easily. Maybe not perfection, but closer to what I like than many others that are concidered great.

  • She is one of the greatest pianist of her generation and of all time. No question.

  • One of the masters of Chopin among Rubinstein, Horowitz, Lang Lang, and Yundi Li

  • lang lang??? And yundi li??? Compared to Rubinstein and Horowitz??

Even Martha can´t be compared with both of them, they´re legends!

  • Martha is at the TOP of the Legends List. Period.

  • definitely no...but she´s still a legend

  • they have just been dead a while thats why you say that

  • so?

  • Lang Lang is an actor, not a pianist.

  • Totally agree:**

  • @silverbud aww thats not fair

  • @silverbud Come back with his level and say that again.

  • @silverbud Lang Lang is and actor and a fine pianist, but not a musician

  • Thank you for postin those wonderful videos !

  • What a beautiful performance! She is a real artist and poet.

  • tuning in chopin's day was off by a note. to what we have our keys in today!

  • hey, it sounds like the piano is tuned a 1/2 step up on every note. honestly, i like this piece better in the new key its in (D minor -> D Major -> D minor... i think)

  • these older videos for some reason are sped up which changes the pitch

  • No, not sped up. In Eastern Europe and russia pianos are tuned differently.

This is a competition held in Warsaw, so for them a natural A stands at 442Hz while it would be 438 in Japan/US or 440 in Western Europe.

  • well, that may be true, im not actually sure if it is, but that isn't the reason for the tuning, all videos that are older have this problem no matter where they are because of the frames per second; the frames per second were less back then, like 20, now its 24, so it plays less frames in the same time makeing the video faster sped up raising the pitch by a half step to d minor. Since the frames are exact frames, this video is exactly in d minor, unless the piano was little out of tune.

  • Hi stacato1975. You are dead right about pianons being tuned differently. My Piano was tuned here in Australia at 440 but then the tune dint like it so took it up tojust over 442 and now it sounds absolutely marvellous

  • She's so so so so so perfect and clear when playing...! it's amazing how close to perfection a human can get in those chopinian passages...!

  • She's definitely a human ;)

  • wonderful!!!

  • hey do you have any li yundi performances during the chopin contest?

  • no,i'm sorry
