  • Hi Tyler, I was going to comment on the lack of airspace for the vent above the FT-950 but looking at your picture on QRZ.com it seems you have had a reshuffle that addresses that. Great radio, just bought one myself. 73 Mike M0SAZ

  • nice rig.. luv my Yaesu shack rigs:-) Gud Dx'ing 73's

  • I can't believe they chucked in the old MH-31 microphone....good grief, they didn't break the bank on that one did they!?! ;-)

  • nice i have the ft-450

  • what is the tuner???

  • One thing I like about HRO is how well they pack for shipping.

  • How is the FT950 working for you? I am thinking of either the FT950 or the IC7000.

  • @handleguess It's working fine. I would choose it over the 7000. That was the radio that i had before the 950. If you're looking for and all-in-one radio then the 7000 would be better, but the large knobs and bright display of the 950 make it better for a base radio.

  • Thanks for the info. I saw this very same cable in Radio Shack today and did not want to take a chance in buying it. I thought it may not work. Now, thanks to you, I know that it will. Thought like yourself I don't see myself using it too much. Too bad about the RF problem. There must be a way to eliminate the RF.

  • Have you connected your FT-950 to your computer yet? If so, what cable did you get and where did you get it?

  • @N2LRB I use a simple Female-Female serial cable from RadioShack. I don't leave it hooked up to the computer all the time though... this tends to allow RF to leak back across the cable's shield and puts RF on my audio. Radioshack Catalog #: 26-1405

  • I purchased my FT-950 based on your video. It was a lot bigger and heavier than I thought. Have you considered purchasing a microphone for it? And if so, what did you consider. What would you recommend?

  • @N2LRB Well, I use a bunch of outboard audio equipment and an isolation transformer to connect the equipment to my 950. I know that Heil has a few models that can plug directly into the radio and give great performance. I would recommended that approach before spending lots of money on other equipment.

  • nice rig there's nothing like unpacking a new rig! I like the electronic smell you get when you first fire it up.

  • bought my ft950 yesterday and it arrived this morning i have a md100 mic (free with the radio) and its fine but still playing, going to try my old sure 444 on it see how that sounds this radio is quality kit and hope to get many years of use from this radio.

  • Very nice ande very impressive rig there! I just received mine about a week ago,but I have not yet hooked it up. WHY? Getting ready tro move to new QTH very soon. I am just itching to get mine up and going! I almost went with the slightly smaller FT-450,but did not go for the black negative display and did not like the smaller tuning knob,...so I chose the 950 instead. Hope to meet you on the air once mine is up and going.

  • Wonderful radio, great video. Please what size the original box (only the radio) and weight. Thanks.
