Novas were used to be economical because back then gas went up like it did now but not as crazy. But the main reason for these cars was that they were cheap family cars. But I have a '65 Chevy II. When Novas became a muscle car.
yo tengo un chevrolet 400 1962 con motor 6 cilindros 194 pulgadas cubicas, y con ese mismo coche mi padre camino 30 años. hay que tener respeto por estos autos ya que son nobles y duraderos.
@rockhaloschool no novas of that era EVER came from the factory with v-6's. Inline 6's of 194 and 230ci only (as well as 153ci 4cyl). The 283 was not offered until 64 and the 327 in 65.
@DBLCC the 327(which was the standard corvette engine of that time) was offered as an upgrade package in 1962. my 62 chevy 2 has it, from factory, 327 rated at 340 hp :p BEAST!
@gavin8ter I had a 75 chevy Monza 2+2 Spider that had the 327 in it, followed by a 3 speed auto. That little things was FFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSST. Those 327s always did just what you wanted them to do, GO!
this show always did a bit to much in the colors department. i would have painted it with no more than two colors. that white roof looks lame. should have stuck with original wheels. chip always had to push his custom wheels on the show.
Something doesn't sound right, 1963 and this car was created to compete against japanese compacts? Decade too early! japanese cars became popular during the oil crises. How could they make this mistake? Anyway, if that was the case, why bring up the other domestic car companies that he mentions? these were a push back from the excesses of the late 1950s. although gas being so cheap, I don't understand why historians say people bought this to be economical. maybe they wanted a small car.
@203207ab the car was definitely designed to be economical, but to compete with the dodge dart, plymouth valiant, and ford falcon, i dont know where they came up with that stuff about competing with the japanese.
I've got a 1963 Chevy Nova convertible, stock, and would've been on the floor in shock if my car got cherried out like that!!!! Maybe I should call them to come down to Southern California....
just like my chevy 2 nova, but mines a 64 very rare car specially here in the philippines maybe im the only 1 whose got a nova running in our country,i wish i could turn my ride to be that pretty
Harrison, that's a sweet "moredoor" ya got there! My current project is a '64 Chevy II. Congrats on being "Overhauled"....why don't you come on over to Steve's Nova Site and tell all us other Nova freaks about it.
i wish this was more detailed... i mean shite like pimp my ride gets like 15 mins a car...

Yeah he just said inline 6 then turned around and called it a v6 lol. Oh well, he's an announcer. But it's funny they didn't catch that in editing.

1 Classic Ind sucks. I know, I used them to restore my 63 & their service dept are assholes.
Btw- yes 64 was the 1st yr for v8 from factory but 62 & 63 v8's was only a Dealer Option swap
