No a welded rear axle is a welded spider gear therefore locking the tires. A straight rear axle is the terminology for having a non independent rear suspension. A LOCKED rear axle means locked. It felt like nothing was there, and if anything smoothed the bumps. The only thing that a solid rear axle doesn't do well is handling. Independent suspension is what you use for handling. A solid rear axle is what you use in a truck or a drag car.
more durable, no of course not, but then again, you don't need that excessive amount of durability unless your bombing and acting like a high school kid with a truck his dad bought him, racing, or doing serious rock crawling. none of which your truck can do better than mine if properly modified. offroad capability has a lot more to deal with than front end strength broseph. weight, wheelbase, tire size, clearance, COB, and general size of the vehicle all play a role along with durablilty.
and that 20 mpg doesn't happen when utilizing all that 400 horsepower. you better babying the gas to achieve that 20 MPG. you also make a point with your last comment, but look at the people in the above video and look at how those vehicles are equipped, they don't utilize all of their powerplant especially that powerstroke. along with 90 percent of the other people that own diesel vehicles.
20 mpg doesn't happen unless you stay off of it, meaning your not utilizing that 400 horsepower you were talking about. with your logic, a dodge cummins diesel, probably around 40000 dollars at a minimum, with a solid rear axle, and if you stay off of the gas peddle, can beat my frontier in all the categories i spoke of. not a whole lot of use for a vehicle like that. certainly wouldn't want to tow anything farther than a couple blocks with a solid rear haha

That ford shouldve pulled that Titan all around, titans have little Dana 44 axles in the back, sounded like a breaking noise just before they stopped, so maybe they broke the 44. My 01 dodge ram half-ton has a Dana 44 axle in the front, it's a tiny ring gear, shouldn't be used on the back of anything but a little wrangler, corvettes use 44 center sections though.

No a welded rear axle is a welded spider gear therefore locking the tires. A straight rear axle is the terminology for having a non independent rear suspension. A LOCKED rear axle means locked. Here I will quote my post for you "its called positraction or a selectable locker". A stock diesel will NOT billow smoke. Need anymore schooling?

gas mileage - my frontier very aggressive on the gas pedal, still is going to get 8 to 10 mpg's, your diesel, lucky to pick up 5. all your fuel is coming out the tail pipe. secondly you didn't address my towing question. my frontier will out offroad your 96 dodge cummins in overall offroad.

perhaps your truck can jump through a mud pit better than mine with a solid rear axle, but i can take my girlfriend camping in my truck up a narrow rocky mountain trail, and not have her bouncing off her seat when i go around a corner because i welded my rear axle. and it will damn near go through the same amount of mud.
not saying your truck doesn't beat mine by a long shot in some categories, i can't beat your truck when it comes to raw work, but not many people use their full sizes for that.

@shaundiedrinksdew What's so miserable about towing with a solid rear axle? I've done it with 5000+ lbs in a Cummins truck, and it was pretty damn comfortable. It felt like nothing was there, and if anything smoothed the bumps. The only thing that a solid rear axle doesn't do well is handling. Independent suspension is what you use for handling. A solid rear axle is what you use in a truck or a drag car.

more durable, no of course not, but then again, you don't need that excessive amount of durability unless your bombing and acting like a high school kid with a truck his dad bought him, racing, or doing serious rock crawling. none of which your truck can do better than mine if properly modified. offroad capability has a lot more to deal with than front end strength broseph. weight, wheelbase, tire size, clearance, COB, and general size of the vehicle all play a role along with durablilty.

20 mpg doesn't happen unless you stay off of it, meaning your not utilizing that 400 horsepower you were talking about. with your logic, a dodge cummins diesel, probably around 40000 dollars at a minimum, with a solid rear axle, and if you stay off of the gas peddle, can beat my frontier in all the categories i spoke of. not a whole lot of use for a vehicle like that. certainly wouldn't want to tow anything farther than a couple blocks with a solid rear haha

That ford shouldve pulled that Titan all around, titans have little Dana 44 axles in the back, sounded like a breaking noise just before they stopped, so maybe they broke the 44. My 01 dodge ram half-ton has a Dana 44 axle in the front, it's a tiny ring gear, shouldn't be used on the back of anything but a little wrangler, corvettes use 44 center sections though.
