@MegaHowtoguy Yes. Many people use pdf files of reference materials and source books while playing. Some even have their character sheets on file or saved to a character creation website like Hero Lab.
There is also virtual gaming tables which are supposed to allow you to do the same thing as the standard paper and pen RPGs but online.
A Player only needs a Players Handbook of the version of the game they're playing; if you are playing AD&D, you have the wrong version there...While the additional books for a GM are potentially beneficial, only the DM's Guide. Player's Handbook, and Monster/Monstrous Manual are necessary to play a fully functional game...Graph Paper, A Notebook or Two and a lot of Pencils are also some great things to have. I personally use about 4 notebooks in add to my Gaming books-Char, History, Adventures.
Being Direct in your vids is good, but rather have you do a little rambling if you're offering good info!!! Keep Up The Good Work!!! Don't let your players keep their cell phones on during the game, and make them responsible too..The burden is a shared one...=)
@Eluai Depends on the game, honestly. If you're game is centered around one main story, where your group goes off on some huge epic quest to save the world, then you should only have one DM, because it's just simpler. But if you're game is made up of small, simple adventurers where your characters complete quick, short quests, then it shouldn't be a problem for the DM to switch out at the end of every adventure and/or session.
You can, but it's usually frowned upon afaik. For a good reason too; it gives the PC of the DM an unfair advantage (considering that he knows everything); intentionally or not. (more often than not it's hard to play as if you knew nothing)
At least most DMs I associated with had trouble doing so. (or rather the few that even attempted that)
You're a life saver! A friend and I are trying to start a group but no one I know has played before so we are all basically new. This helped SOOOOOOOOO much lol Especially that fold out thing you mentioned. I may just go and get it now lol
Those Are Heroscape Pieces, Not A Role Playing Game Btw, More Like The Game Of Risk. But I Use A Little Scribble On The Paper So I'm In No Position To Disagree :P
Ya i jus started playin Dungeons and Dragons, i think its really fun if ya have a big imagination and by the way she is like the most attractive chick i ever seen that was into all this, a very good thing :)
The Monster Manual and Dungeon Master's Guide are not necessary for players. Some DM's (Dungeon Master's) are against even allowing the players have access to the DMG or MM. (Monsters Manual)
Another thing you'll end up learning over time, is some players are actually uncomfortable with DM's using the DM Screen. But that one is a hit and miss thing.
as i said to your first vid, awesome videos and in plain english. LOL. if you know what i mean. straight to the point. but i have a question, how come you dont "squeak" when saying your user name? hahahaha. just messing around.
Oh my god haha I love Sandstorm watch my friend katyn and his friend der dance to it just search up Sandstrom evolution not sandstorm evolution but sandstrom evoluton
Nice video, it was fun to watch :-) One point of advice: try to aim your camera a bit higher next time because it is kind of annoying to see only half of your head :-(
BTW, your reactions on the interruptions are quite funny xD
@Markleberrytoast The ones I have, I honestly have no idea what the brand name is. But I know a great website to buy mini's from! I'll put the link in the video description for everyone. :)
In "most" cases all a player needs is the player's handbook but it all depends on what type of game the DM chooses to run. (the monster manual is full of spoilers so it's "usually" not recommended i think) I'm learning 4th edition myself and I plan to have it where my players won't even need the PH for the game. I threw together a website for my players that has all the basic rules (without all the fluff) that they can refer to in game (using laptops). Anyway keep up the good work on the vids!
Coincidentally this was exactly what my friends at Taekwondo were asking each other how to do. Though nobody knew how to play, and that conversations ended there. Thanks for the upload, might be able to help them learn how to play this game, though I wonder how that would be like playing that game in Martial Arts.
lol sandstorm xD classic.

The reason a player would want a Monster Manual is because there are races in the MM that are playable for Players, and the info on them is in there.
