  • I always found the early VH stuff to be some of the most bizarre guitar playing around. I used to sometimes have the tab in front of my face and it still didn't make sense.

Never could figure out the VH-"box". Now I know what it is and still can't do it.

Great lessons, Doug!! Very fun to watch.

  • @HoratioChapin That VH bix is a mad stretch. I think it started with it, but I've heard Lynch and Nuno do it as well. It's a right bitch in E. Put your foot on the milk crate!!

  • Wang Bar???

  • @the5zangs Yessah.

  • I have the VH2 tab book and I could send u the transcription of that open-string pull-off part, its a lot different, but ur way sounds great. I think I might learn the way u do it too.

  • @theShowStopper321 No thanks, I'm fine with my way. I did it by ear so if it's wrong, that's fine. I hate tab anyways and I doubt I'd look at what you sent. Unless the tab is by Ed. I prefer ears over eyes.

  • @DougFCKNSteele I use my ear too, but when I get stumped they come in handy, and I've slowed it down and matched it with the transcription and it is correct.

  • like your style...zero BS

  • @fireman82397 Lol, thanks. the shorter the better, if upload time was quicker, I'd probably chat a bit more, but for now, we'll keep it to steak and potatoes.

  • You should do the solo to hang em high I..... cant figure all of it out

  • i was just wondering that' all and your right i probably can figure out all the same power chords they use in every song ha

  • Are you going to do Spanish Fly too?

  • @wilneal1 Nah, there's a few guys on here who nail it, so i won't bother.

  • @DougFCKNSteele You ever gonna do some ACDC stuff ?

  • @wilneal1 surely you can figure out that shit by ear. What did you have in mind?

  • For the love of God, Doug... please slow down the riff you play at 3:52 and show it note-for-note. Love ya man!

  • @irrationalnigger we'll see.

  • @DougFCKNSteele I guess we won't see.. LOL!

  • Great video, Doug! I'm really looking forward to seeing you demo some of the Fair Warning stuff.

  • Same, it's gonna be awhile though, stlll ned to burn through 2 and WACF..

  • haha yes the famous eddie van halen box, i love it!

  • very fucking helpful... thank God for the good ole amazing slow downer eh

  • Yeah, it's those goofy little tricks you need that shit for.

  • Gotta a question for ya, Doug....and, this comes from a very beginning wannabe player.

Does the VH "box" you referred to make good musical sense to you personally? Are all of the notes in key, or did Ed simply choose that fingering pattern randomly for it's interestng sound when played as rapid triplets? Are there a lot of passing notes in those patterns he uses, or are they actually in key?

Great series of vids, by the way. I really enjoy them a lot.

  • To make this short and sweet, I love that box, play it often, and it's a mixture of major and minor pentatonic shit. The stretch takes the notes out of pitch order, which is great. If you wanna do Ed or yourself justice, learn the shape and fucking tear it up proper. peace!!!!!

  • Just spent some time out in the backyard with this one - got to love them holidays. Cheers

  • @EVHGUITARS4LESS how did you fare? Any word on the star parts?

  • @DougFCKNSteele I fared OK. Star parts should be here in the next week or so.

  • F*cking killer!!!! Great technique, great tone, great lesson. Totally badass.

What more can me said? Except, keep'em coming!

    Yo!

  • @YoBroMan your mean street clip is the best, I need to learn the shit in the beginning your way, ha ha!!! Love the Bro Man!!

  • Think so.

  • Doug, you rock.... Love your videos dude... Keep 'em coming!

  • Will do!!

  • Hmm I thought 59's were Seymour duncans. Anyway badass playing!

  • You're the best. These are great videos. Amazing playing, insightful teaching. Thanks.

  • All good, best? Nah, just some free time here and there..

  • That's a nice crisp sound you got there. Great clarity and bite. Great playing, too.

  • Thanks. That's Line 6 X3 through power amp section of Ampeg ss140c solid state head. And it's pretty loud as well. Pick ups in Bumblebee are Dimarzio 59's.

  • The bumblebee came out great! Wet sanding my copy now, can't wait to see & hear what its like! BTW, what kind of pickup you got in there? Thanks.

  • DM 59. Show us when it's done, son.
