I like it. I think the passion is wonderful and with more practice it will sound better but to me this is the best I have heard so far and I have heard at least thirty different people play the same piece so it's saying something.
Your dynamics need a lot of work... Plus, you're missing some notes. If you're at the point where you are STILL worrying about getting the notes right then I think you should really be more practiced before tackling such a difficult piece. This just wasn't performance ready. Don't be so ambitious if you can't play the piece absolutely perfectly.
@LakewoodBroadwayRose You are an idiot.. This is great - you are one thing, an idiot... Music is for fun - not to be judged... Imo this is perfect, because he has his own way of playing. Actually I think he sometimes are incredibly perfect. He's a sick good player.

Interpretation comes with experience. At least it did with me, I can see this kid playing this very piece not many years from now with amazing talent COMBINED with deep interpretation.
When I was a kid I played with (a bit of) ability.
Terrible interpretation.. Sorry. That boy is FAR from feeling any sort of emotion expressed by this piece. I did like the middle part though but overall it's simply too fast when it shouldn't and too slow when it should.

i agree, its typical of oriental players like this, is SO square, and mechanical. anyone can play notes and in time. there's absolutely no passion or expression with this. still, for his age i guess its ok. LOTS of learning and experience to gain tho!
1:11-1:34. If you had paid attention to this, you would have noticed that this kid puts a lot of emotion in there. The pauses? He's drawing out the notes and he will get better at this as he gains more experience. "Absolutely no passion or expression"? I'm sorry, that's your mother when she's in bed with another man, not this kid.
¡Felicitaciones!
Not good , read the notes like it writing , grave part tempo is not like that , u playing only notes , where is the music ??? need still learn and learn , srry its very bad performance ...
Tips to help you get even better: Slow this WAY down. It's natural to play really really fast during a performance because you're nervous and you want to get it over with, but the performance will go better if you go slower. Not only will it sound nicer, but you will prove to your audience that you are relaxed and experienced and you, yourself, will be less prone to making any mistakes that you might have made had you played faster.
Well done, kid! Don't worry about 'emotion' just yet. Technique is far more important at this stage of your career, and emotions can't be taught, it has to come with time.
gj kid. Very impressive for a performer of your age. You can still improve quite a bit on your dynamics, but especially your tempo. Next time you play, go listen to Freddy Kemp's performance of this piece. He plays it with much more passion, emotion, and control. After the Grave part, when it gets fast, your about 20 seconds faster than you should be. Calm down, relax, and try to use more emotion. But otherwise very well done!! Im sure that you'll be a very accomplished pianist when you grow up.
Great job for a kid your age! Try to improve the timing on the grave though. You play it too fast. Count the eigth notes to yourself at that part: "one-e-&-a, two... etc."
Bravo Andrew ! I imagine not many kids at your age back then could do the same thing...this is very beautiful. I think in some years time you will be one of the best pianist of your generation...!I wish you strength to keep up this amazing work!
Great job. I'm still on page 3 (2:10 or so) and can only imagine how much work you've put into this. You sound much better than me, so I am no one to give advice, but if you want to hear my opinion, go a little slower and try to make the sections with different dynamics to really sound different, not only in volume. Not that I can do it myself, but telling it to others is within my skills. :)
Five stars, as being still a child and handling this work well enough, you're incredibly talented.
This kid's definitely one to watch and is going to need some amazing teachers over the next few years. I totally agree with Bus6845's comments. It's not as if this recording is at a concert so let's give the teacher some slack here!
That teacher in the background can't be that jerk(y) if he can produce this marvellous student. I agree, it is not fair to the point of rude having himself also in this video. Train the boy, then let him play it out ALONE for show.
He has all the techniques and skills and I am very impressed. I think a very slight variation in the tempo will bring out the feeling and interpretation the composer would have wanted it to be. This will come with age.
the start is to fast its grave at bar 5 its should be so soft and slow and take at the pause at fp's i know your just 12 but that asshole in the background is incorrect in all ways @ bar 5 its allergo con brio so fast and back to the Grave slow slow and after dont make the left hand so like dun dun dun dun and the easiest mistake your making is the phrasing good gob other wise btw which school of music do you get thought in and who's that ass of a teacher
Very nice performance & fun to listen to. I think you pulled off the high speed, and have really achieved a lot young or not! I wonder whether you can go even further and play with volume more - especially at the quieter end - for dramatic effect.
I'd have to agree that the beginning was tad fast and the middle DID seem a bit slower than most recordings I've heard although i'm not so sure. In general....Great work!
i love how he makes it sound more classical then romantic.. it sounds like mozart.. and it is truly amusing. im definitly going to steal some of your interpretation :) good job.
this is a great performance from a technical point of view--put i would try to put more "feeling into it" this is one of the most beautiful and emoitional pieces of music ever written--check out the vladamir Horowitz version no one played better than Horowitz--best of luck to you!!
Good lord, a 12 yr old? My word...I'm speechless, completely speechless...How ashamed I am of myself...how a 12 year old can play something like a thousand times better than me, I am honestly ashamed, ashamed that is...
its really hard to play the piece if your not feeling it... you may be able to play it perfectly but there is mood, tone, and emotion. You have to bring that out WHILE playing on track.
this wasn't played too fast, in fact that is a only about the middle speed among professionals for the allegro. it's the ideal speed i think but only if you can manage it comfortably. the 2nd theme is always the test with the hands crossing and getting the pralltrillers cleanly which hardly anybody ever does. the main thing to improve here is more variation in dynamics, particularly the quiet end. the bit that was too fast was the grave intro and there was not enought contrast betw FF and p
I'm amazed at your speed. However, this piece loses its musicality and purpose when played this fast especially without variations of tempo nor dynamics. But it's awesome that your fingers can move so fast and get all the notes pretty accurate.
Awesome! Really nice job, you played it with great control in my opinion. Pathetique has only one great difficulty the tremolos, once you get them to handle them its no problem.
Keep playing and also bravo to your teacher for his work ;)
Whenever I see someone this young perform so beautifully, I feel the grace of something bigger. Shame on you naysayers. When I was twelve, I was playing Nintendo and Legos. Ever child prodigy is an otherworldly blessing, and every critic is an otherworldly curse.
Grave part is totally off timing, rythm is very unstable. I'd say this performance as completely mechanical. Definately skill there but got a ways to to.
Hey! That was really good! Have you heard of Freddy Kempf? He's really amazing, too. Your recording almost sounds like his. Keep up your good work. I promise that you'll become one of the world's greatest pianists. See ya!
For a child, not bad, however, there was limited use of RUBATO in this movement, GRAVE means just that, but it comes with experience, and they will not know this until they have lived.
Teachers should help the childs development in understanding western music, the dynamics and interpretation needed come but only with time, reminds me of that Begian kid HAEZAERT, played this when he was 9, , but that was back in 71, not too sure what he is doing now, play Beety, read, interpret, them perform.
You're nit-picking a bit aren't you? This is especially out of order for someone who can't get even get his punctuation right, but I suppose that comes with experience.
yeah, the grave section is kinda rushed. and it lacks that dark beethoveen quality. also the allegro section needs to be faster to achieve the level of passion beethoveen intended. keep it up! uve got huge potential.
i am 12 and i also play this piece. i think that the beginning was rushed a little. other than that, it very good-except for the talking in the backround! ugh!!!!
Teachers shouldnt be talking while he is playing, especcially not on a recording. It's not only anoying to us, but imagine the little boy who is playing...
he has plenty of talent but a little too much energy. There are a couple of parts that he rushed a little bit, specifically the grave parts. And the secondary theme is a bit too forte. But his fingers sure do fly...
supposedly this was a piece for Trinity's ATCL diploma recital,so he must be great~
all of you out there, this young man has the dedication to practice to make it to this level,we people who are older should be more dedicated, anyways it was a great play he put up,and he has his own style,so people, don't come here and just simply shout any comment about how you don't like the way he plays this,do it in a polite manner, honest comments~ ^^
He can play the piece, but he is only playing the notes, not the music. There is too much tension in his shoulders, he's not using the weight but plays forte by hitting the keys. I don't like the way he does the piece, it's too mechanical.
well, he's only 12 years old. I'm sure he's got plenty of time to work that out. besides, i think that his interpretation sounds somewhat better than some of the adults that are playing the same piece.
I like the tempo, but there is a lot of problems with the rhytm. And the secondary theme is to be played piano, not forte like he does! The introduction is also played too strong or too powerful. It says in the score, that the first note in the first four bars is to be played forte and the rest of these bars is to be played piano. But besides that he is very impressing and very convincing in his way of playing - very good.
if shut eyes sounds very nice, a little chunky at times, lighten up a bit or it ends up stodgy
best practise of all is saturate yourself with listening to pro's playing this on CD: lots of pro's - in the bath/shower, walking, writing, relaxing, even sleeping! many hours
then you will play quite effortlessly and with gr8 authority soon
this is amazing for a kid 12 years old. i am officially impressed. im learning it now and im 15, but still, i can't imagine playing something like that a few years ago. i think "personally" that the quiet parts could be quieter. i mean some parts are pp and he's playing them mp or mf at most. i just think there should be some more contrast between the dynamics... but otherwise.... omg.. good job!!!!
oh and hey katana66606 he is in a performance class if you know what that is... so stop complaining. you should figure out what is going on before you start bad mouthing people
The performer is really skilled, but the guy in the background needs to shut the hell up. It ruins the performance. Where the hell are his damn manners?! You don't talk during a performance, asshole!
Then he has one hell of a rude teacher. I take piano, and my teacher is respectful when I am performing. It doesn't matter whether or not it's his teacher.
Hes amazing! Well done. I have the first 5 pages done working on the last 2. I played a different song in a comp against asian people and got my butt kicked. They practice long and don't stop until its right. Amazing! Very good job. keep it up. Get the next 2 movs. and you will be amazing!
As a Beethoven Fanatic and Student, I think Andrew here hit Ludwig's mark dead on, well not like the original, but its great. The first Section has a tempo marking of GRAVE which means about 52, so a tid bit slower, and don't worry about timing as much as emotion! and Andrew did a great job on this section, BUT I would make a distinction between the 64th notes and the 128th notes in both measures four and ten(chromatic), start slow and then increase speed.
well done kid! but one tip: the first part of the piece can be a tittle bit slower with more rests but all with all you played it great! you're lucky you got such a piano!!
Absolutely stellar. Good 4 U

futureiceskater 3 years ago 2
Rhythm is off, but otherwise, it's very good.
LostHope777 3 years ago
Awesome! Really nice job, you played it with great control in my opinion. Pathetique has only one great difficulty the tremolos, once you get them to handle them its no problem.
Keep playing and also bravo to your teacher for his work ;)
IgnotusPerIgnotium 3 years ago
nonsense. the cross hands theme is by far harder and getting the little pralltrillers clean and rythmnic at speed
englishplayer40 3 years ago
Very good! Please don't move your head back and forth so much, it is distracting. Get out of this bad habit and you will be awesome.

nice play! listening to the music, I got thrilled sometimes. and Great is Beethoven!

Very good technique, very good interpretation, just a little too rubato.

Mozart would be proud, Beethoven too.

I studied for 3 years playing that sonata. I'm 21, and I still can't get it.
You're a very talented kid. Keep at it. Big things will come for you in the future.
Very well played, lots of emotion.
Dude! I agree, what's with the guy in the back talking. Shut up!!
robertowilson 3 years ago 2
Whenever I see someone this young perform so beautifully, I feel the grace of something bigger. Shame on you naysayers. When I was twelve, I was playing Nintendo and Legos. Ever child prodigy is an otherworldly blessing, and every critic is an otherworldly curse.
sodoesplastic 3 years ago 2
what's up with the guy in the background talking?
other than that, LOVE IT.

o_o sick skills. beautiful..
icyflare3 4 years ago 3
Grave part is totally off timing, rythm is very unstable. I'd say this performance as completely mechanical. Definately skill there but got a ways to to.
SignorBagofCrap 4 years ago 2
Hey! That was really good! Have you heard of Freddy Kempf? He's really amazing, too. Your recording almost sounds like his. Keep up your good work. I promise that you'll become one of the world's greatest pianists. See ya!

If my spelling was like yours I'd never write again. You might as well give up!
Anyway, I think the kid's doing great and has achieved far more in his young life than most people.
gadders59 4 years ago 5
For a child, not bad, however, there was limited use of RUBATO in this movement, GRAVE means just that, but it comes with experience, and they will not know this until they have lived.
Teachers should help the childs development in understanding western music, the dynamics and interpretation needed come but only with time, reminds me of that Begian kid HAEZAERT, played this when he was 9, , but that was back in 71, not too sure what he is doing now, play Beety, read, interpret, them perform.
Zippolata 4 years ago
You're just jealous because he probably plays better than you, assuming that you play at all that is. =]
animeparadise66 4 years ago 5
You're nit-picking a bit aren't you? This is especially out of order for someone who can't get even get his punctuation right, but I suppose that comes with experience.
gadders59 4 years ago 3
too rush in the tempo over there. but overall still rather okay. Grave is muchhhhhh slower.
nel90 4 years ago
yeah, the grave section is kinda rushed. and it lacks that dark beethoveen quality. also the allegro section needs to be faster to achieve the level of passion beethoveen intended. keep it up! uve got huge potential.
matthewbhan 4 years ago
i am 12 and i also play this piece. i think that the beginning was rushed a little. other than that, it very good-except for the talking in the backround! ugh!!!!

a little too much rubato. remember this is still classical, not romantic
excellent performance.

it can be argued that Beethoveen ushered in the Romantic Era

Excellent!
Young but very good performance both in techniques and passions.
But who is the guy keep talking? Doesn't he know that the young boy is playing the piano?
weishanlee 4 years ago
Teachers shouldnt be talking while he is playing, especcially not on a recording. It's not only anoying to us, but imagine the little boy who is playing...
Kasimin 4 years ago
Easily one of the best I've heard on the tube
SolarJakee 4 years ago
he has plenty of talent but a little too much energy. There are a couple of parts that he rushed a little bit, specifically the grave parts. And the secondary theme is a bit too forte. But his fingers sure do fly...
freddiedug 4 years ago 2
he is doing great~
supposedly this was a piece for Trinity's ATCL diploma recital,so he must be great~
all of you out there, this young man has the dedication to practice to make it to this level,we people who are older should be more dedicated, anyways it was a great play he put up,and he has his own style,so people, don't come here and just simply shout any comment about how you don't like the way he plays this,do it in a polite manner, honest comments~ ^^
musician1245780 4 years ago 2
lovely performance! i especially like the ending, very staccato.
firelily 4 years ago
He can play the piece, but he is only playing the notes, not the music. There is too much tension in his shoulders, he's not using the weight but plays forte by hitting the keys. I don't like the way he does the piece, it's too mechanical.
sftlnzzg 4 years ago
well, he's only 12 years old. I'm sure he's got plenty of time to work that out. besides, i think that his interpretation sounds somewhat better than some of the adults that are playing the same piece.
firelily 4 years ago
I like the tempo, but there is a lot of problems with the rhytm. And the secondary theme is to be played piano, not forte like he does! The introduction is also played too strong or too powerful. It says in the score, that the first note in the first four bars is to be played forte and the rest of these bars is to be played piano. But besides that he is very impressing and very convincing in his way of playing - very good.

by the way, who was the mutter fuker that was talking?
DamianViladrich 4 years ago
Amazing. I'm 13, and I'm learning this. haha and trust me, it's nowhere near this level. This kid is amazing.
I know a kid named Andrew who looks exactly like him. He just doesn't play piano... lol
violinxpiano 4 years ago 2
Awesome! I quite like the slightly faster tempo, makes it almost sound like a pop song in places.
Harlequin1707 4 years ago
Great performance! You play it very expressively. What's with the people talking in the background though?
brazjol 4 years ago
uhn i laernt this song at 14, what a frickin pain. but such a nice piece in the end. shame i quit a while ago
shadopyro 4 years ago
i'm not 12 or 15 and i'm not learning this
if shut eyes sounds very nice, a little chunky at times, lighten up a bit or it ends up stodgy
best practise of all is saturate yourself with listening to pro's playing this on CD: lots of pro's - in the bath/shower, walking, writing, relaxing, even sleeping! many hours
then you will play quite effortlessly and with gr8 authority soon

CatLitterOne 4 years ago
this is amazing for a kid 12 years old. i am officially impressed. im learning it now and im 15, but still, i can't imagine playing something like that a few years ago. i think "personally" that the quiet parts could be quieter. i mean some parts are pp and he's playing them mp or mf at most. i just think there should be some more contrast between the dynamics... but otherwise.... omg.. good job!!!!
OnlyEverYou 4 years ago 2
wow.. im impressed. good job!
oh and hey katana66606 he is in a performance class if you know what that is... so stop complaining. you should figure out what is going on before you start bad mouthing people

You moved my mom to tears. The performance was very good. Thanks for posting it, I enjoyed listening!
shmlu 4 years ago
FOr the trills that start at 2:05, do you use 2,3 fingers for 3,4 fingers?
eragonrules1234 4 years ago
The performer is really skilled, but the guy in the background needs to shut the hell up. It ruins the performance. Where the hell are his damn manners?! You don't talk during a performance, asshole!
BladeRift 4 years ago
It's his teacher
Rellics 4 years ago
Then he has one hell of a rude teacher. I take piano, and my teacher is respectful when I am performing. It doesn't matter whether or not it's his teacher.

Beethoven is a great man
Desmonddd2002 4 years ago
You tried your best so it is good enough but mind you beat and your dynamix(fp,pp)
Do you know the beat of 'Grave'
Mind your left hand on the octives(c1-c2)
A bit messy
You must play it more dimmer
Or the'Allegro di molto e con brio'ff won't come out
very impressive for a 12years old kid
keep this up
Desmonddd2002 4 years ago
Hes amazing! Well done. I have the first 5 pages done working on the last 2. I played a different song in a comp against asian people and got my butt kicked. They practice long and don't stop until its right. Amazing! Very good job. keep it up. Get the next 2 movs. and you will be amazing!
neilswan 4 years ago
As a Beethoven Fanatic and Student, I think Andrew here hit Ludwig's mark dead on, well not like the original, but its great. The first Section has a tempo marking of GRAVE which means about 52, so a tid bit slower, and don't worry about timing as much as emotion! and Andrew did a great job on this section, BUT I would make a distinction between the 64th notes and the 128th notes in both measures four and ten(chromatic), start slow and then increase speed.
blsims 4 years ago 2
Very good. Keep at it.

Twelve? Boy! The kids today play like they've been playing for 30 years! It's simply amazing!
Very nice, kid! And listen to your teacher in the background.
;)
YGYGYGYGYGYGYGYGYGYG 4 years ago
well done kid! but one tip: the first part of the piece can be a tittle bit slower with more rests but all with all you played it great! you're lucky you got such a piano!!
gangster0005 4 years ago
it's my opinion... the first part is titled "GRAVE"....so you have to play like the keys were stones or something xD
